Markets fell as more stocks decline than rise

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 11 stocks rising, 15 declining as securities changed hands, ending in 251,691,499 units trading, valued at $358,211,118, in all market segments.
TheJSE Market Index lost 996.20 points to 97,498.24, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index fell/ decline/ rose 923.95 points to close at 107,915.70 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,138.33 points to end at 99,681.18.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 9 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 with offers that were lower.

In trading, Cable & Wireless ended with 1,940,000 units trading between 47 cents and the last price of 50 cents to gain 3 cents, Caribbean Cement closed with 5,400 shares at $4.01, down 34 cents, Desnoes & Geddes finished trading with 69,899 shares at $7.36 after adding a cent to the price, Gleaner saw trading in 102,913 shares to close with 7 cents gains at $1.07, Grace Kennedy closed with just 7,843 units changing hands at $63 to gain 25 cents, Jamaica Broilers finished trading with 23,138 shares while losing 25 cents to $5.25, JMMB Group concluded trading with 21,250 shares to close unchanged at $9. Mayberry Investments completed trading in 1,135,000 shares at $3 by gaining 15 cents at the end, National Commercial Bank had dealings in just 9,944 units to close down 8 cents at $29.52 at the same time the stock closed up in Trinidad at the equivalent of $31.50. Pan Jamaican Investment contributed 2,150 shares to close down by $1.66 at $58.59,

Radio Jamaica gained 15 cents to end trading with 40,700 units at $2.75, for anew 52 weeks’ high. Sagicor Group closed with 1,471,642 shares at $12, after shedding 15 cents, Sagicor Real Estate Fund finished trading with 18,896 units at $7.50, for a 50 cents fall, Scotia Group ended trading with just 473 units to close at $25.35 after losing 15 cents. Seprod finished trading with 10,162 units at $18 to gain 50 cents, Supreme Ventures ended with 55,747 units at $3.95, up 35 cents. Trinidad Cement ended trading with 105 shares to close down by at $15, Proven Investments closed with 721,573 shares at 19 US cents, after losing 1.5 US cents. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share finished trading with 350,000 units at $2.30 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 199,000 shares at $3.02 and lost 3 cents.

JSE down slightly, junior up slightly

The Jamaica Stock Exchange had 14 securities trading at 10:15 on Tuesday morning, accounting for 1.567 million units. The All Jamaican composite Index is down 7.54 points 108,832.11, the JSE index is at 98,487.69 down by just 6.75 points.
In trading, Jamaica Broilers had 20,100 units trading at $5.50, Mayberry Investments has so far traded 100,000 units at $3, Sagicor Group had 555,152 shares trading at $11.42, having lost 48 cents, Proven Investments that recently traded at 21 US cents, had 444,273 units trading this morning at 18 US cents having lost 1.2 cents. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share had 350,000 units $2.30 and Lasco Manufacturing traded 18,385 units at $1.30.

JSE’s modest gains but 14 stocks rise

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 14 stocks rising, 7 declining as 29 securities changed hands, ending in 3,995,019 units trading, valued at $28,635,285, in all market segments. A total of 3 stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high in the main market.
TheJSE Market Index gained 111.93 points to 98,494.44, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 125.14 points to close at 108,839.65 and the JSE combined index put on 244.08 points to end at 100,819.51. Close to mid-day the all Jamaican Composite index ended had gained 755.19 points added while the JSE index added 675.46 points. and the junior market index gained 20.52 points to 883.66.

tocks trading in the main market at new closed at 52 weeks’ high are Barita Investments, Pan Jamaican Investments Trust and Radio Jamaica. Jamaica Broilers traded during the day at $5.74 for a new 52 weeks intra-day high but closed lower at a former 52 weeks closing high of $5.50. Other trades in the main market include Cable & Wireless with 459,765 shares trading at 47 cents, to record a 1 cent gain. Caribbean Cement traded 50,000 to close at $4.35 but traded as high as $4.80, Grace Kennedy gained 25 cents to close at $62.75 with 7,253 units trading, Hardware & Lumber traded only 3,000 units at $10.25 to $12, Jamaica Broilers had 27,400 trading as high $5.74 but closed unchanged at $5.50, JMMB Group has 955,266 units trading at $9 and gained 11 cents, Mayberry Investments traded 109,856 units to close at $2.85 with a 15 cents loss but traded previously at $3.National Commercial Bank had 100,819

shares trading at $30, Radio Jamaica traded 100,000 shares is at $2.60, Sagicor Group traded 466,995 shares with the price climbing 15 cents to $12.15. Scotia Group had 141,655 shares changing hands at $25.50 by putting on 18 cents, Proven Investments fell to 18.50 US cents with 78,150 units trading and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference shares ended with 728,100 units at $2.30 as the price slipped 10 cents.
At the close of the market Sagicor Real Estate Fund had a bid at $8.30 compared with the last sale price of $8, but only 100 units were on the bid and only one offer was posted at $10. Investors are responding to reported strong increase in profit flowing from primarily form the profit of the hotel acquired in 2014, but they may not be taking into consideration the seasonal flows of revenues and profit in the industry that see strong inflows in the winter months and lower amounts in the other months.

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 9 stocks rising, 12 declining as 28 securities changed hands, ending in 1,649,208 units trading, valued at $11,833,234, in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index gained 112.16 points to 98,382.51, theJSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 125.41 points to end at 108,714.51 and the JSE combined index declined by 12.53 points to close at 100,575.43.

Trading included Berger Paints trading 5,000 shares to close with a loss of 40 cents at $2.60, Cable & Wireless ended with 438,117 shares at 46 cents, for a gain of 1 cent, Caribbean Cement slipped 4 cents with 48,850 shares trading, to close at $4.55, Carreras closed with 92,083 units trading at $49, by dropping $1. Desnoes & Geddes lost 44 cents in trading 5,000 shares in closing at $7.26, Grace Kennedy gained 35 cents with 9,905 units changing hands in closing at $62.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange slipped 15 cents with 43,700 shares trading at $3.35, JMMB Group had 73,345 shares trading with a gain of 44 cents to $8.89,

Margaritaville (Turks) ended with 100,000 shares trading at 10 US cents, Mayberry Investments traded just 1,020 units but lost 15 cents to end at $2.85. National Commercial Bank traded unchanged with 25,000 units at $30, Pan Jamaican traded only 1,700 shares to end with a gain of $1.19 at $60, Proven Investments closed with 17,700 units to gain almost a cent to 20.48 US cents. Radio Jamaica traded 50,000 shares unchanged at $2.58, Sagicor Group gained 50 cents in trading 135,347 units to close at $12, Scotia Group gained 36 cents with 2,190 shares trading, to end at $25.32. Scotia Investments traded only 176 units in gaining 35 cents to $25.85, Seprod lost 50 cents in trading 5,000 units at $17.50 and Supreme Ventures lost 30 cents with 10,727 units changing hands at $3.60.

Berger closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $3 on Wednesday

Wednesday was another day of more stocks rising than falling, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange but the indices fell, with the number of stocks rising, smashing those declining 20 to 8. AT the end, 35 securities changed hands, with 7 of the stocks with gains ended at 52 weeks’ high at the close. The market closed with 4,856,849 units trading, valued at $34,575,790, in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index lost just 78.06 points to 98,270.35, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 87.29 points to close at 108,589.10 and the JSE combined index dropped by 142.03 points to close at 100,587.96.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and with offers that were lower.

The stocks trading in the main market at new 52 weeks’ high, are, Berger Paints, Caribbean Cement, Desnoes & Geddes, Jamaica Broilers, Jamaica Producers, and Sagicor Real Estate Fund.
In trading, Berger Paints traded between $2.58 and the closing price of $3 with 80,658 shares and ended with an increase of 45 cents, Cable & Wireless had 806,875 shares trading between 42 cents and 47 cents, to close at 45 cents, with a loss of 2 cents from Tuesday’s last price. Caribbean Cement traded 1,477,569 shares between $5.50 and the final price of $5.30 to gain 30 cents, Carreras traded just 2,871 units with a gain of $1 to close at $50. Desnoes & Geddes traded 197,238 shares at $7.70 at the end, by putting on 45 cents. Grace Kennedy posted 25,988 units but lost $1.40, to end at $62.15. Jamaica Broilers put through 136,039 units and closed at $5.50, 1 cents higher than on Tuesday.

Jamaica Producers traded at $20 with a gain of $1.45 with 3,303 shares changing hands, JMMB Group lost $1.04 in trading 81,226 shares at $8.45, Mayberry Investments had 280,022 shares changing hands at $3.10 after trading at $2.85 and added 10 cents at the close. National Commercial Bank had 136,390 units with all trading at $30. Sagicor Group closed at $11.50 with 820,961 shares trading 49 cents down at the close, Sagicor Real Estate Fund had 5,880 units trading at a new high of $8 to gain 80 cents. Scotia Group traded 104,903 shares at $25.01, Proven Investments 93,007 shares at 19.5 US cents as the price slipped 1 US cent, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 145,200 units at $2.40 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 199,980 units at 3.05.

JSE softens 7 up 8 down

The all Jamaican Composite Index slipped 173.68 points to be 108,502.71 at 11:30am and the JSE Index fell 149.08 points to 98,199.33 but the junior market index is up 1.47 to 884.69. A total of 22 securities traded with 1.64 million units changing hands as seven stocks rose and 8 declined. Only 4 stocks traded in the junior market so far with small volumes.
Trading in the main market has resulted in a number of ne w52 weeks’ high, these include Berger at $2.60, Desnoes & Geddes at $7.50, Jamaica Broilers at $5.50, Jamaica Producers at $20 and Sagicor Real Estate Fund at $8.

Jamaica Broilers closed at a new 52 weeks high on Tuesday

In the first hour and a half of trading Tuesday, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the all Jamaican Composite Index was once more over the 110,000 market. It gained 322.01 points to 110,048.85 and the JSE Index was at 99,578.98, with a gain of 288.02 points.
By the end of trading, the market gave up all the gains and much more as the market continues to struggle to move away from the resistance level which it crossed over recently. The JSE Market Index lost 939.55 points to 98,348.41, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 1,050.45 points to 108,676.39 and the JSE combined index dropped 1,010.08 points to close at 100,729.99.
Activity, resulted in the prices of 10 stocks rising, 12 declining as 35 securities changed hands, ending in 9,192,775 units trading, valued at $92,864,773, in all market segments. Only three new highs were recorded in the overall market, with Jamaica Broilers ended at $5.49 and Jamaica Stock Exchange at $3.55 as new 52 weeks closing highs in the main market.

In trading, Berger Paints as it traded at $2.55 with 14,650 shares, but there is a strong bid at $2.55 to buy 123,873 shares. Cable & Wireless had 306,000 shares trading at 47 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 292,100 units to close at $5, Carreras traded 211,982 shares to close at $49, Gleaner posted 322,432 units to end at $1, Grace Kennedy gained 5 cents to close at $63.55 with 45,627 units, the stock traded at $65 during the trading session. Jamaica Stock Exchange put through 83,000 units and ended at $3.55, JMMB Group lost 51 cents in trading 219,760 shares at $9.49, at the close. National Commercial Bank had 113,179 units trading between $29.50 and $30.20, the closing price, as 20 cents was added.

Sagicor Group traded down to $11 during the day but ended up with a decline of 1 cent at $11.99, at the end with 5,150,556 shares, changing hands. Mayberry sold more than 3.5 million units mostly at $11 from their inventory and Sagicor Investments was another major buying and selling broker of the stock. Scotia Group put on 70 cents to $26 with 8,794 units trading, Seprod had 136,611 units changing hands at $18.50, and Supreme Ventures traded 116,465 shares between $3.89 and $3.95 but ended at $3.90 and Proven Investments slipped by half of a cent in trading 61,517 units at 20.5 US cents.

Grace fell $1 after reporting a decline in Q1 profits

The main market indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange recorded another day of gains on Monday, but the current run up for the main market, may be peaking, until the summer months. With the latest inflation number being very tame, the stage may be set for another round of lower interest rates that could ignite the market again before long.
Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, resulted in the prices of 15 stocks rising, including 8 new 52 weeks’ high, 7 declining as 35 securities changed hands, ending in 4,079,019 units trading, valued at $46,667,393, in all market segments. The JSE Market Index gained 295.86 points to 99,287.96, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 330.79 points to close at 109,726.84 and the JSE combined index gained/ put on 321.05 points to close at 101,740.07. Stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ highs, in the main market are, Berger Paints, Desnoes and Geddes, Caribbean Cement, Jamaica Broilers and Radio Jamaica.

Gleaner closed with 170,739 units trading, with the price unchanged at $1, Grace Kennedy finished trading with 42,032 shares and fell $1 to close at $63.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange concluded trading with 25,000 units trading with the last price unchanged at $3.50, JMMB Group completed trading in 11,506 shares changing hands and jumped $50 cents at $10,the stock closed with an offer at $9.49, Kingston Wharves had dealing in 34,221 units traded at 6 cents up to $6.26.

Mayberry Investments contributed 93,828 units to trading and close unchanged at $3, National Commercial Bank ended trading with 52,070 shares changing hands to close down by 50 cents at $30 and based on today’s trading which saw the bid that was at $30 for several days, to buy an undisclosed amount being pulled, it looks as if the price could fall back below $30, Radio Jamaica closed with 100,000 shares trading at $2.48 after adding 8 cents, Sagicor Group finished trading with 1,127,037 units but remained unchanged at $12, after it trading during the day at $11. Scotia Group ended trading 72,725 units to close 14 cents higher, at $25.30, Scotia Investments closed with 2,300 shares, 75 cents up at $25.50. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share finished trading with 153,398 units changing hands to close 2 cents higher at $3.02 and Proven Investments 8% preference shares saw trading in 26,805 units with the price ending unchanged at $5, after gaining 50 cents earlier in the day before falling back.

Slow Monday morning session

Stocks are off to a cautious trading in with few major price changes. The most significant price change is Scotia Group with a price of $25.90 up from $25.16 on Friday.
Caribbean Cement traded 227,030 at $5 compared with a close of $4.21 on Friday. Sagicor Group traded 727,037 units and the price slipped to $11 from$12 on Friday. Proven Investments 8% preference share traded 8,000 and gained 50 cents to $5.50. Interest in National Commercial Bank has slowed with the bid in to buy 100,860 at $28.20 compared with the last sale of 52,070 units at $30. Twenty six stocks have traded so far with ten from the junior market. Caribbean Cream trading 100,000 units at $1.20, Jamaican Teas 194,500 shares at $3 after languishing at $2.55 for a long time.

19 stocks rose only 3 fell on JSE

Hardware & Lumber gained $1.25 to a new high of $12 in response to news that Grace is in negotiation to sell their interest in the company

There were only three stocks declining on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, while 18 stocks rose, compared with the last traded prices on Thursday, but the main market indices dropped more than 500 points as Scotia Group fell back to $25.16. The market closed with 19 stocks rising, 8 of which closed at 52 weeks’ high, 3 declining as 28 securities changed hands, well down from the 41 that traded on Thursday. In the end a total of 5,475,513 units valued at $56,463,857 traded, in all market segments.
The rally started last year fuelled by falling money market rates with Treasury bill rate falling from over 9 percent to below 7 percent. The current rally is be fuelled by rising profits from the majority of companies reporting first quarter results.
The JSE Market Index lost 507.33 points to 98,992.10, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 567.23 points to close at 109,396.05 and the JSE combined index declined 237.32 points to close at 101,419.02.

Stocks in the main market trading to close at a 52 weeks’ high, are Berger Paints, Desnoes & Geddes, Hardware & Lumber, Jamaica Stock Exchange, JMMB Group and Mayberry Investments. In trading, Barita Investments ended with 622,050 shares changing hands to close at $2.35, Berger Paints closed with 55,162 shares trading, 27 cents higher at $2.35, Cable & Wireless finished trading with 619,569 shares to gain 1 cent to 47 cents, Caribbean Cement saw trading in 3,351 shares, to close 1 cent higher at $4.21. Carreras closed with 32,376 shares changing hands to close 35 cents up at $49.35, Desnoes & Geddes finished trading with 14,650 shares and gained 10 cents in trading to close at $7.20, Grace Kennedy concluded trading with 307,283 units trading with the last price unchanged at $64.50, Hardware & Lumber completed trading in 9,092 shares changing hands and jumped $1.20 at $12 as investors responded to news that Grace is discussing selling their stake in the company. Jamaica Broilers had dealing in 48,730 units traded at $5.16 to remain unchanged at the end. Jamaica Stock Exchange contributed 244,616 shares, the price jumped 60 cents or 21 percent in response to the company’s huge jump in their first quarter results showing profit of $87 million or 62 cents and ended at $3.50. Trading was halted for an hour after the price exceeded 15 percent. JMMB Group ended with 27,855 shares changing hands to close up by 10 cents at $9.60, Mayberry Investments closed with 12,289 shares trading at $3,after adding 12 cents, National Commercial Bank finished trading with 468,084 units unchanged at $30.50. Pan Jamaican Investment ended trading with 14,769 units 12 cents higher, at $58.25, Sagicor Group closed with 191,168 shares trading 15 cents lower at $12. Scotia Group finished trading with 88,383 shares changing hands to close 84 cents lower at $25.16, Seprod saw trading in 335,400 shares ending 25 cents up at $18.50 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share ended with 68,650 units trading with a 5 cents rise to $2.15.
