Trading in the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Monday with 24 securities changing hands, with 2 trading in the US dollar market. The main market indices rose sharply with 12 stocks advancing and 7 declining based on last traded prices in both markets.
The All Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,994.33 points to close at 255,338.83, the JSE Market Index climbed 1,783.28 points to finish at 232,692.82.
In market activity, Cable and Wireless was the dominant trade on Monday with gains of 8 cents, closing at $1.35 with 4,252,222 units trading, Barita Investments closed at $6.85 trading 8,000 units, Berger Paints gained 39 cents to close at $11.89 with an exchange of 6,644 units, Caribbean Cement closed at $33 trading 28,862 shares. 1834 Investments lost 30 cents to close at $1.50 with 179,616 shares changing hands, Grace Kennedy advanced 82 cents to $41.67 with an exchange of 139,325 units, Jamaica Broilers closed higher at $16.25 with gains of $1.75 trading 17,260 shares, Jamaica Producers closed with gains of 76 cents to $18 with 16,235 units changing hands, Jamaica Stock Exchange slid 80 cents to close at $10 with 88,704 shares traded. Jamaican stocks enjoy gains on Thursday

Stocks mostly gained at the close of trading on the Jamaican Stock Exchange on Thursday as 51 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 21 stocks rising and 17 falling. At the close 7 stocks gained and 6 declined from the junior market as 3 securities ending at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index rose 358.25 points to close at 252,603.20, the JSE Market Index gained 320.34 points to finish at 230,246.68 and the JSE combined index lost 207.72 points, to close at 244,630.09.
At the close, 8,545,755 units valued at $87,407,183 changed hands, compared to 14,119,849 units valued at $235,690,329 changing hands on Wednesday. The junior market accounted for 5,009,146 units valued at over $29,141,927 of those trading.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 95,844 shares compared to an average of 237,979 units on Wednesday. For the month to date, an average of 154,517, shares compared to an average of 213,191 units up to the prior trading day. January ended with an average of 592,602 units.

More retreat for Jamaican stocks – Wednesday

Carreras climbed to a 52 weeks’ high of $69.

At the close of trading on the Jamaican Stock Exchange, the bias was in favour of falling prices on Wednesday as 53 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 18 stocks rising and 22 falling.
The market closed Wednesday, with 11 stocks gaining and 7 declining coming from the junior market as 5 securities ending at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,229.08 points to close at 252,244.95, the JSE Market Index fell 1,099.01 points to finish at 229,926.34 and the JSE combined index lost 1,039.04 points, to close at 244,837.81.
At the close, 14,119,849 units valued at $235,690,329 changed hands, compared to 9,830,806 units valued at $174,930,678 changing hands on Tuesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 6,418,006 units valued at over $39,202,136.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 237,979 shares compared to an average of 210,760 units on Tuesday. For the month to date, an average of 213,191 shares compared to an average of 188,403 units up to the prior trading day. January ended with an average of 592,602 units.

Jamaican stocks hit new highs – Friday

Bulls pushed stocks higher on Friday, with the all market indices moving to new record highs on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 56 securities changing hands in the overall market ending with 25 stocks rising and 13 falling.
The market closed Friday, with 10 stocks gaining and 4 declining coming from the junior market as 6 securities ending at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index rose 646.51 points to close at record 257,395.71, the JSE Market Index gained 578.09 points to finish at record close of 234,532.02 and the JSE combined index climbed 740.72 points, to close at new closing high of 249,735.10. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 22.5 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index, with the JSE Market Index up 22 percent. The moves in the indices are subject to change as the stock exchange daily postings indicate that there are errors in the reports since the new trading system was activated on Monday.
At the close, 23,308,737 units valued at $169,240,005 changed hands, compared to 13,502,301 units valued at $146,199,269 changing hands on Thursday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 18,452,895 units valued at over $81,504,636.

JSE blast past resistance on Tuesday

Stocks jump to new records in trading on Tuesday with the All Jamaica Composite Index blasting pass resistance around the 243,000 level in decisive fashion. The market should have a comfortable rise to 265,000 points mark, the next area of resistance.
The market closed on Tuesday, as 51 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 27 stocks rising and 13 falling, including 11 stocks gaining and 7 declining, in the junior market while 9 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index jumped 5,829.59 points to close at record 248,767.35, the JSE Market Index climbed 5,212.68 points to finish at record close of 226,816.75 and the JSE combined index shot up by 5,336.51 points, to close at new closing high of 241,473.28. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 18.4 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index, with the JSE Market Index up 18 percent.

NCB & Scotia push Jamaican stocks hard

NCB jumped to a record high of $65 during trading on Wednesday.

Continued strong gains of National Commercial Bank and lesser gains in Scotia Group exerted upward pressure on stocks values, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Tuesday as 50 securities changed hands, 7 more than on Monday, both stocks traded at record prices during the day.
Overall market activity, ended with 22 stocks rising and 14 falling, including 12 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market. At the close 4 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs and 6 trading at an intraday high while one traded, at an intraday 52 weeks’ low.
All major market indices jumped sharply, with the all All Jamaica Composite Index surging 3,907.49 points to close at 235,933.11, the JSE Market Index climbed sharply by 3,493.98 points to finish at 215,340.68 and the JSE combined index jumped 3,495.03 points, to close at 229,135.36. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 12.3 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index.
At the close, 10,945,066 units valued at $162,330,186 changed hands, compared to 15,833,084 units valued at $518,190,757 changing hands on Tuesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 2,831,925 units valued at $14,341,956.

Bulls stampeding Jamaican stocks

Stock prices followed Friday’s surge on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday, moving the market higher, with gains of 9.5 percent for the year to date, after the main market started the year with moderate gains.
The movement over the past three trading days has brought the gains in the market in line with the junior market that previously had gains that were 3 times that of the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market.

JSE majors shoot to 215,646 points

Kingston Wharves traded at a new high of $27.75 on Tuesday.

The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, having broken through the 214,000 mark at the close on Monday shot well through the 215,000 mark on Tuesday to end at yet another new high. Advancing stocks were twice as many as declining ones in the overall market.
The market enjoyed another day of good volumes, with values exceeding $273 million, as the market continues to trade above the $240,000 market for the fourth consecutive day.
The market closed with 40 securities changing hands, 19 stocks gained and 9 declined in the overall market, including 9 stocks rising and 3 falling, in the junior market. A total of 8 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
At the close the All Jamaica Composite Index gained 1,486.31 points to close at 215,646.20. The JSE Market Index rose 1,329.03 points to finish at 197,200.62 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,462.70 points to close at 211,694.92.
At the close with 10,692,647 units valued at $273,030,077 changed hands, compared to 20,100,275 units valued at $241,271,357 changing hands on Monday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 1,319,304 units valued at $8,881,627.

Carib Cement jumped to a new high on Monday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange ended at another record close, with the All Jamaica Composite Index ending just under 201,000 points level as 35 securities changed hands, with the prices of 18 stocks ending with gains while 8 declined in the overall market, including 6 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market.
At the close the All Jamaica Composite Index gained 225.66 points to end at 200,882.22, the index recorded gains of 20 percent for the year to date. The JSE Market Index rose 201.78 points to finish at 183,686.54. The JSE combined index increased by 195.58 points to end at 195,510.75, with a gain for the year to date of 23.5 percent.
At the close with 3,151,271 units valued at $45,655,245 changed hands, compared to 4,934,021 units valued at $48,374,405 changing hands on Friday. The junior market accounted for 1,021,062 units changing hands, valued at $5,305,996 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 85,208 shares compared to an average of 152,905 units traded on Friday with the average for the month to date being 128,061 units compared to 170,913 units for the month up to Friday. November ended with an average of 208,466 units.

Jamaican stocks just miss another record

Caribbean Cement traded at an intraday high of $36.40 on Friday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange failed to hold on to another record close, as some price pulled back towards the close, pulling the All Jamaica Composite Index, from a mid-day high of 201,922.95 after jumping 1,156.01 points, to the closed trading at just 110 point below Thursday’s record close.
The record run was aided by 35 securities changing hands, with the prices of 15 stocks ending with gains while 15 declined in the overall market, including 5 stocks rising and 6 falling, in the junior market.
At the close the All Jamaica Composite Index declined 110.38 points to end at 200,656.56, the index recorded gains of 19.9 percent for the year to date. The JSE Market Index fell 98.70 points to finish at 183,484.76. The JSE combined index lost 20.90 points to end at 195,315.17, with a gain for the year to date of 23.4 percent.
At the close with 4,934,021 units valued at $48,374,405 changed hands, compared to 4,365,700 units valued at $35,619,605 changing hands on Thursday. The junior market accounted for 1,417,214 units changing hands, valued at $6,281,632 of the stocks traded.

The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 152,905 shares compared to an average of 171,733 units traded on Thursday with the average for the month to date being 170,913 units compared to 188,922 units for the month up to Thursday. November ended with an average of 208,466 units.
