Scotia Group traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $30.99.

The main market recorded another day of gains on Tuesday, pushing the main indices up but by less than on Monday. The market closed on Tuesday with 7,395,180 units valued at $65,085,306 changing hands, in all market segments with 38 securities trading. Of the total value of stocks traded $20,386,711 was executed in the junior market. A total of 15 stocks gained, 15 declined as 1 stock closed at 52 weeks’ high and 1 traded at an intraday high but pulled back before the close.
The JSE Market Index climbed 845.57 points to 144,204.52, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 944.97 points to end at 160,112.98 and the JSE combined index added 554.46 points to close at 150,449.78. Notwithstanding today’s gains, the main market faces the next test at 165,000 points level, on the all Jamaica composite index.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with lower offers.
In trading, Berger Paints rose by 10 cents in trading 29,253 units at $3.40, Cable and Wireless fell 3 cents with only 138,174 units changing hands and closed at $1.30, Caribbean Cement fell 40 cents and closed trading at $18.20, with 10,731 shares changing hands.

Carreras rose $2.90 and closed at $59.90 with 26,654 units trading, Ciboney traded at 27 cents at the close with 114,749 units changing hands after rising 5 cents, Grace Kennedy gained $2.50 with 5,250 units changing hands, to finish at a 52 weeks’ high of $79, Jamaica Broilers fell 65 cents in trading 2,098,850 shares, to close at $9.25. Jamaica Producers was up 1 cent in trading 50,066 units at $28.01, Jamaica Stock Exchange shares rose by a cent in trading 19,449 units at $19 for a new closing 52 weeks’ high, Kingston Wharves saw trading in 100,000 shares at $11.50 as the price gained 30 cents, Mayberry Investments closed with 169,517 units changing hands at $4.70. National Commercial Bank rose 45 cents and ended at $38.50 with 153,879 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investment had 87,343 units changing hands at $93, with a rise of 90 cents, Pulse Investments traded 48,666 shares with the price climbing 20 cents to close at $2.50, Radio Jamaica lost 80 cents and landed at $3 with 1,000 shares trading. Sagicor Group with 113,949 units changing hands ended at $17, Salada Foods gained 21 cents and closed at $9.01 while trading 60,000 shares, Scotia Group jumped $1.50 with 217,472 shares changing hands and ended at $30.

The banking group traded at an intraday high of $30.99, Scotia Investments dipped $1.05 with 1,000 units trading and closed at $28.95, Seprod traded 81,599 shares and lost 5 cents in closing at $20.50, Supreme Ventures fell 30 cents to end at $4.35 with 61,988 units changing hands. Proven Investments had 25,000 shares trading at 22.9 US cents, followed by Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share, enjoyed a good day of trading, with 808,320 units changing hands at $1.90 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share ended with 707,438 units changing hands at $2.89, with the price slipping a cent.

New record close for JSE – Thursday

Scotia Group closed at a 52 weeks’ high on Thursday of $30.

The main market recorded strong gains in trading on Thursday, pushing the indices to new record closing highs, with 37 securities trading on Thursday. The market closed with 7,353,395 units valued at $40,265,775 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 17 stocks gained and 11 declined as 5 stocks closed at a 52 weeks’ high.
The main market had strong gains over the past two days, helped on Thursday by Scotia Group rising to $30, from $28. The JSE Market Index rose 1,510.31 points to 144,142.97 the all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 1,687.86 points to end at 160,044.19 and the JSE combined index gained 1,446.03 points to close at 150,771.21. The market having broken through the 155,000 points resistance level on the all Jamaica chart faces the next test at 165,000 which is not far off, which could contain any strong upward movement over the next few trading sessions.

Carreras rose 5 cents and closed at $56.50 with 5,817 units trading. Ciboney lost 1 cent and ended at 26 cents with 213,316 shares changing hands, Desnoes & Geddes had 68,514 units trading at the close at $30. Gleaner Company traded 17,272 shares at $1.40, Grace Kennedy ended with at a 52 weeks’ closing high with only 399 units changing hands, the stock price rose $1 to finish at $78,

Jamaica Broilers gained 50 cents in trading 15,963 shares, to close at $8.80. JMMB Group traded 1,080,760 shares, to close at $10, Kingston Wharves traded 22,945 units to end at $11.20, after shedding 15 cents, National Commercial Bank lost $1.35 and ended at $38.50 with 42,711 units changing hands, Sagicor Group with 90,677 units ended at $16.54. Scotia Group had 146,486 shares changing hands at a 52 weeks’ high of $30, to record a gain of $2, the stock traded at these levels way back in 2005, Seprod had 11,790 units trading with a gain of $1.95 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $20.55 and Supreme Ventures gained 18 cents and ended at $4.90, with 573,000 units changing hands.

JSE jumps sharply on Thursday

Jamaica Producers closed at a new 52 weeks’ high of $32 on Thursday.

The number of securities trading on Thursday increased and remains at elevated levels over 40 as the market closed with 11,309,612 units valued at $179,784,674 changing hands, in all market segments and the market indices jumped sharply by the close. A total of 4 stocks closed at a 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index climbed 1,796.81 points to 142,047.35, the all Jamaica Composite Index shot up 2,008.04 points to end at 157,702.22 and the JSE combined index jumped 1,764.62 points to end at 148,377.59.

Carreras closed at $56 with 52,742 units trading, Ciboney closed at a 52 weeks’ high of 23 cents after gaining 2 cents with 65,930 shares changing hands, Desnoes & Geddes ended with 14,000 shares trading at $30, Gleaner Company traded at 105,031 shares and but fell 21 cents to $1.70, Jamaica Broilers rose 14 cents in trading 343,265 shares, to close at $8.60, Jamaica Producers climbed $2 to close at 52 weeks’ high of $32 with 5,197 units trading Jamaica Stock Exchange jumped $1.50 in trading 2,000 units to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $15.50, JMMB Group ended trading 737 shares, to close at $10.25. Kingston Wharves traded 8,079 units to end at $11.20, Mayberry ended with 318,784 shares changing hands at $4.70, after rising 41 cents, National Commercial Bank closed with 3,367,608 units changing hands at $37.50 with a loss of $1.50.

Pan Jamaican ended with 42,553 shares and jumped to $5 to a 52 weeks’ high of $95, Pulse Investments had 90,089 units trading at the price rose 32 cents to close at $2.50, Radio Jamaica lost 24 cents in trading 32,794 units at $4.81, Sagicor Group rose $1.20 with 555,102 units to end at $16.70. Scotia Group had 212,574 shares changing hands at $27, Scotia Investments had 57,245 units trading with a gain of 16 cents to end at $28, Seprod lost 1 cent in trading 22,794 units at $18.60. Supreme Ventures closed with 1,192,628 units changing hands at $4.70 with a 1 cent loss, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.750% preference share ended trading 348,115 units at $2.65.

NCB rescues JSE on Tuesday

NCB stock traded at a high of J$40 on the JSE on Tuesday.

With news that National Commercial Bank will be buying 30 percent of Guardian Holdings shares, the stock traded higher the moment the market opened and ended up as high as $40 for an intraday high. The move in NCB’s price, helped the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market to eke out gains, even as the declining stocks were more than those advancing.
The market closed with a volume of 9,838,406 units valued at $181,361,434 changing hands, in all market segments. National Commercial Bank accounted for 3,818,003 units carrying a value of $140,419,998. Activity took place in 40 securities, leading to 11 rising and 20 declining with 2 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing high but with none from the main market but there were trading at 52 weeks intraday high.
The JSE Market Index gained 305.74 points to 140,479.71, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 341.68 points to end at 155,950.29 and the JSE combined index increased by 120.88 points to end at 147,096.81.

Ciboney did not trade but closed with the bid at 23 cents to buy with 38,830 shares. Desnoes & Geddes ended with 11,850 shares trading at $30, Jamaica Broilers lost 20 cents in trading 1,375,039 shares, to close at $8.50, Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 14,635 units to end at $13.45, JMMB Group fell 8 cents while trading 303,051 shares, to close at $10.01. Kingston Wharves traded 83,754 units and rose 17 cents to end at $11.47, Mayberry Investments ended with 10,600 shares changing hands at $4.70, after falling 15 cents, National Commercial Bank closed with a gain of 59 cents to end at $36.34.

138 Student Living ended with 1,108,650 shares but lost 35 cents to $4, Pulse Investments had 250,658 units trading at the close at $at $2 after it traded earlier at $2.45, Sagicor Group fell 54 cents in trading 596,988 units to end at $16. The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market suffered another day of reversal in the indices on Friday. The market closed with a volume of 6,907,239 units valued at $34,171,808 changing hands, in all market segments. Activity took place in 37 securities, leading to 14 securities rising and 12 declining with 5 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing high but with just 1 from the main market.
The JSE Market Index lost 480.67 points to 140,626.96, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 537.18 points to end at 156,113.73 and the JSE combined index declined 149.43 points to end at 147,291.47.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 7 with lower offers.

Pulse Investments traded 10,000 shares and ended at $2.50 after falling 50 cents, Sagicor Group fell 5 cents in trading 39,505 units to end at $16.65. Jamaica stock market pulls back – Wednesday

Pan Jam closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $95 on Wednesday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market suffered another day of reversal in the indices on Wednesday, even as more stocks gained than declined. The market closed with activity in 39 securities, leading to a volume of 13,174,162 units valued at $94,116,248 changing hands, in all market segments.
A total of 18 securities rose and 10 declined with 5 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing highs and one stock closed at a 52 weeks’ low. The JSE Market Index declined 593.00 points to 139,946.79, the all Jamaica Composite Index lost 662.71 points to end at 155,354.72 and the JSE combined index fell by 902.50 points to end at 145,917.85.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 9 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 8 with lower offers.
In trading, Berger Paints had 12,000 units changing hands at $3.70, Cable and Wireless closed with 1,325,036 units changing hands at $1.42 and gained of 2 cents. Caribbean Cement rebounded by $1.50 to $18 with 455,039 shares changing hands, Carreras closed at $59 with 18,454 units trading but by the close the stock was on offer at $56 to sell 37,012 units.

Ciboney had 1,186,460 units trading, to close at 16 cents for a 52 weeks’ high, but the stock closed with the bid at 16 cents to buy 1,813,540 shares as investor push to price up to levels not seen since 2004, when it traded at 32 cents. Desnoes & Geddes ended with 33,392 shares trading at $30, Jamaica Broilers traded 4,062,932 shares with the price rising 41 cents to close at $8.60. Jamaica Producers fell 82 cents while trading 5,000 shares to end at $29, The Jamaica Stock Exchange had 2,127 shares changing hands with a rise of 7 cents, to end at $13.28, JMMB Group fell by 62 cents while trading 33,991 shares to close at $10.20. Kingston Wharves ended with 10,720 shares changing hands at $11.47 for 2 cents decline, Mayberry Investments closed with 61,991 units trading with a fall of 80 cents and ended at $4, National Commercial Bank closed with a rise of 1 cent as 11,282 shares changed hands to end at $37.01.

Pan Jamaican Investments jumped to a new 52 weeks’ high of $95 with 3,000 units changing hands, but at the close the stock was on offer at $90 with 6,268. Pulse Investments traded 30,000 shares and ended at $3.65 after trading at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $3.67, Sagicor Group lost 50 cents in trading 905,656 units at $16.50 at the close, Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended with 1,176,791 shares trading with a rise of 25 cents at $10. Scotia Group had 97,148 shares changing hands and closed with a fall of 65 cents to $26.35 and Proven Investments ended at 22.9 US cents with 67,750 changing hands.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange suffered moderate reversal in its fortune on Tuesday, reflect a temporary pull back on its bullish run as more stocks fell than rose. The market closed with activity in 38 securities, leading to a volume of 7,824,802 units valued at $43,455,309 changing hands, in all market segments.
A total of 10 securities rose and 16 declined with no stock ending at 52 weeks’ closing highs and 4 trading at intraday 52 weeks’ high. The JSE Market Index climbed 268.21 points to 140,539.79, the all Jamaica Composite Index fallen 299.74 points to end at 156,017.43 and the JSE combined index fell by 550.73 points to end at 146,820.35.

Supreme Ventures ended at $4.89 after declining 6 cents with 37,706 shares changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.50% preference share traded 258,607 units with a loss of 6 cents to end at $3.49 but as traded at a 52 weeks’ intraday high of an $4.60.

Bulls still at large at JSE on Monday

Scotia Investments ended at a 52 weeks’ high on Monday of $34.30.

The main market Jamaica Stock Exchange continued to reflect the bullish run but with a relative large number of stocks falling, even as rising stocks had the upper hand on Monday. Only 5 of the declining stocks and all with gains, came from the main market.
The market closed with activity in 39 securities, leading to a subdued volume of 6,541,969 units valued at $26,641,867 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 15 securities rose and 13 declined with 4 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing highs and an additional 2 trading at intraday 52 weeks’ high. The JSE Market Index climbed 1,059.99 points to 140,808.00, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,184.60 points to end at 156,317.17 and the JSE combined index gained by 822.50 points to end at 147,371.08.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of only 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and one with a lower offer. In trading,Cable and Wireless closed with 1,550,252 units changing hands and lost 19 cents to close at $1.40, Caribbean Cement traded 43,041 shares changed hands at $16.10 with a loss of 40 cents, Carreras gained $2.98 to end at $59.98, with 2,031 units trading.

Desnoes & Geddes ended with 32,700 shares trading at $30, Gleaner traded 50,000 shares at $2, Grace Kennedy traded 6,200 shares and closed with a gain of 10 cents at $75.10, Jamaica Broilers traded 62,175 shares to close at $7.50 after losing 99 cents. Jamaica Producers rose $3.50 while trading 19,074 shares to end at $30, The Jamaica Stock Exchange had 43,930 shares changing hands to end at $13.50, JMMB Group rose by 90 cent while trading 95,500 shares to close at $10.90. Kingston Wharves gained 24 cents and ended with 51,500 shares changing hands at $11.49, Mayberry Investments closed with 54,845 units trading for a loss of 40 cents and ended at $4, National Commercial Bank closed with a rise of 49 cents as 52,776 shares changed hands to end at $37.50. Pulse Investments traded 44,000 shares, at a new 52 weeks’ closing high of $3.65, the price rose 65 cents, Radio Jamaica declined by 20 cents with 34,895 shares trading and ended at $4.85.

Sagicor Group rose 45 cents in trading 127,678 units at $17 at the close, Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended with 51,000 shares trading at $10. Scotia Group ended with 5,950 shares changing hands, closed with a gain of 19 cents to end at $26.50, Scotia Investments jumped sharply by $7.30 and ended at $34.30 with 50,182 shares changing hands, but traded as low as $28. Seprod rose 4 cents to $18.55 with 6,237 shares trading, Supreme Ventures ended at $4.95 after rising 20 cents with 93,445 shares changing hands, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 105,000 units at $2 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.50% preference share traded 1,143,883 units with a gain of 6 cents to end at $3.55.

Indices fall across the board at JSE – Friday

The Jamaica stock market continued its bullish run but with more stocks falling than rising on Friday. The market closed with activity in 41 securities, leading to 10,580,654 units valued at $91,422,843 changing hands, in all market segments. A total of 21 securities rose and 14 declined with 4 stocks ending at 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The JSE Market Index dropped 1,705.59 points to 139,748.01, the all Jamaica Composite Index dived 1,828.45 points to end at 155,132.57 and the JSE combined index declined by 1,636.11 points to end at 146,548.58.

In trading, Barita Investments closed with 238,852 shares trading to at $4, Cable and Wireless closed with 1,644,431 shares changing hands and 4 cents to close at $1.59, after trading at a high for the day of $1,64, Caribbean Cement traded 79,075 shares

changed hands at $16.50 with a loss of $1, Carreras gained 95 cents to end at $57, with 21,592 units trading. Desnoes & Geddes ended with 113,325 shares trading at $30, Gleaner traded 58,166 shares at $1.90, Grace Kennedy traded 4,563 shares and closed with a gain of 50 cents at $75, Jamaica Broilers traded 241,910 shares to close at $8.49 and lost 26 cents. Jamaica Producers rose $1.76 while trading 75,712 shares at $26.50, The Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 25 cents in trading 17,835 shares, to end at $13.50, JMMB Group rose by 11 cent while trading 192,697 shares to close at $10. Kingston Wharves ended with 19,500 shares changing hands at $11.25, Mayberry Investments closed with 115,000 units trading for 5 cents higher at $4.40, National Commercial Bank closed with a fall of $1.94 as 1,365,817 shares changed hands to end at $37.01, Pan Jamaican Investments traded 12,955 shares at $88.25 for a loss of 5 cents,

Pulse traded 91,500 shares at a new 52 weeks’ closing high of $3 as the price gained 50 cents, after trading at $3.20. Sagicor Group lost 7 cents in trading 170,002 units at $16.55 at the close, Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended with 239,750 shares trading at $10. Scotia Group ended with 153,444 shares changing hands, closed with a fall of 89 cents to end at $26.31, Scotia Investments lost $1 and ended at $27 with 30,000 shares changing hands, Seprod rose 1 cent to $18.51 with 13,250 shares trading and Supreme Ventures ended at $4.75 after falling 2 cents with 35,500 shares.
