If Monday’s trading on the Jamaica Stock exchange is anything to go by investors seem far from impressed with the presentation delivered by the Jamaica’s Prime Minister at Sunday’s closing of her party’s annual conference as there were only two stocks rising to 13 that declined.
The market saw low volumes on a day that enjoyed only moderate trading activity with 19 securities changing hands as 1,481,773 units, valued at a mere $7,074,688 traded in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index dipped 736.27 points to 96,158.92, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index slipped 822.83 points to 106,419.29 and the JSE combined index fell 757 points to end at 99,279.86.

Trading in the main market was very low keyed with extremely low volumes with only one stock trading with volumes in six digits. Cable and Wireless fell 3 cent with 20,584 shares changing hands, to close at 48 cents. At the close the stock had 2,167,369 units on the bid at 48 cents. Caribbean Cement traded 35,389 shares at $7.80 to gain 10 cents, National Commercial Bank with 29,091 units changing hands, ended at $27.47 while losing $2.52. Sagicor Group with 173,580 shares trading, closed for 5 cents higher at $12.60, Scotia Group traded 21,500 shares to close with a loss of 1 cent at $23.90, Supreme Ventures had 31,600 shares changing hands at $3.40, for a loss of 34 cents and Proven Investments ordinary share traded 25,000 units at 22 US cents.

Weak start to week on JSE – early Monday
The week has started with very little activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with just 5 securities changing hands after 80 minutes had passed from the opening. Activities resulted in a volume of 622,390 units, with 1 stock declining and 2 rising.
Trading activity resulted small changes to the indices with the JSE Market Index rising 19.48 points to 96,914.67. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 21.76 points to 107,263.88 and the JSE combined index advanced 55.08 points to be at 100,091.94. The junior market is up 4.11 points to 961.97.
The main trades so far are, Caribbean Cream has traded 440,000 shares at $1.65 and Sagicor Group traded 173,580 units at $12.60.
NCB saves JSE from decline on Friday
The JSE Market Index rose 133.87 points to 96,895.19, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index climbed 149.62 points to 107,242.12 and the JSE combined index gained 131.79 points to end at 100,036.86.

In trading, Cable and Wireless fell 1 cent with 200,000 shares changing hands, to close at 51 cents, Carreras traded 8,000 shares at $49.99, Desnoes & Geddes traded 60,357 shares after to end at $7, Gleaner traded 26,150 units at $1.90, Grace Kennedy lost 50 cents in trading 1,060 shares to close at $64. Hardware & Lumber ended with 4,980 shares trading at $12.80, Jamaica Broilers with 11,000 units changing hands, ended at $6.20 while losing 30 cents, JMMB Group traded 527,208 units, the price fell 2 cents, to end at $7.80, Radio Jamaica ended with 14,445 units changing hands with a3 cents gain to end at $3.08. Sagicor Group with 6,589 shares trading, closed for 45 cents lower at $12.55, Scotia Group traded 27,614 shares to close gain 11 cents at $23.91, Supreme Ventures had 100,000 shares changing hands at $3.74, for a loss of 6 cents. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 171,659 units at 20 US cents, after rising 2 cents and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share traded 225,500 units, to end at $2.01, after gaining 1 cent.
JSE drops again but 12 stocks rose 7 fell
Trading in the main market saw low volumes for individual stocks as the main market indices slipped further by the close of the market. At the end, 24 securities traded of which 12 stocks gained, 7 declined with 1,909,715 units, valued at $23,590,989 changing hands in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index declined 213.17 points to 96,761.32, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index dropped 238.24 points to 107,092.50 and the JSE combined index lost only 77.94 points to end at 99,905.07.

In trading, Cable and Wireless gained 2 cents with 61,150 shares changing hands, to close at 52 cents, Carreras recovered $1.39 but with just 1,440 shares trading at $49.99, Desnoes & Geddes traded 56,700 shares after losing 20 cents to end at $7, Grace Kennedy gained $1 in trading 2,923 shares to close at $64.50, Hardware & Lumber dropped 20 cents with 13,910 shares trading at $12.80. Jamaica Broilers with 150,629 units changing hands, ended at $6.50 while gaining 60 cents, JMMB Group traded 19,168 units, the price fell 3 cents to end at $7.82, National Commercial Bank with 22,016 shares changing hands, closed at $27.05, having gained 5 cents. Sagicor Group with 84,069 shares trading, closed 20 cents higher at $13, Scotia Group traded 6,300 shares to close with a loss of 1 cent at $23.80, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 710,000 units at 20 US cents. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 175,000 units to end at a 52 weeks’ low of $2.80, after losing 5 cents and Proven Investments preference share traded 100,475 units at $5.
Sagicor X Fund in big trade on JSE
Market activity, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange picked up from moderate trading on Monday with only 21 securities trading and ended on Tuesday with 30 securities changing hands as 478,681,888 units, valued at $3,328,086,907 traded.
The JSE Market Index gained 336.73 points to 98,517.75, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 376.31 points to 109,055.41 and the JSE combined index added 212.92 points to end at 101,539.89.

Scotia Group traded 16,351 shares to close with a gain of 5 cents at $23.85, Scotia Investments ended with 13,666 shares trading 27 cents higher at $24.50, Supreme Ventures traded 9,440 shares but gained 10 cents in ending at $3.50, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 41,727 units at 19.9 US cents and Proven Investments preference share with 100,000 units traded closed at $5.
NCB is positioning to rally on JSE
NCB is expected to report full year results to the end of September by the first week in November that is projected by IC Insider to exceed $5 per share.
Market activity was moderate, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday and ended with just 21 securities changing hands as 3,950,878 units, valued at $35,988,729 traded. At the end 6 stocks gained, compared to 7 that declined in all market segments, helping the indices to eke out some small gains.

Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 445,452 units at $6.95 while losing 55 cents. Supreme Ventures traded 40,015 shares but lost 50 cents in ending at $3.40, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 98,354 units at $2, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 19,143 units at $2.85 with a 3 cents loss and Proven Investments preference share with 480,050 units traded closed at $5 for a 10 cents gain.
Gleaner trades 19m shares on JSE
Market activity was halted on the Jamaica Stock Exchange due to technical issues that occurred around mid-day a Jamaica Stock Exchange source indicated to IC Insider. Trading resumed at 3 PM and closed at 3:30.
Not many more securities traded after resumption, but 19 million Gleaner shares changed hands, 18,996,993 units were bought through Victoria Mutual Wealth Management and sold by Mayberry Investments from house inventory at 3:17:44 PM with a value of $36,094,287.
Trading ended with just 23 securities changing hands as 23,173,353 units, valued at $96,919,052 were exchanged. At the end 13 stocks gained, compared to only 2 on Wednesday and 4 declined in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index rose 2.14 points to 98,798.05, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index added only 2.40 points to 109,368.67 and the JSE combined index gained 52.07 points to end at 102,111.65.

Jamaica Broilers traded at $5.90 at the end with 66,961 shares changing ownership after gaining 30 cents. Jamaica Producers added $1.90 to $18 with 171,230 units trading. The Jamaica Stock Exchange shares added 5 cents with 8,465 shares changing hands at $7.55, JMMB Group had 52,374 shares changing hands at $7.65, National Commercial Bank traded 136,629 shares and closed at $30, Sagicor Group with 22,400 shares changing hands, closed at $12.70 with a 20 cents increase. Scotia Group traded 134,944 units in closing at $24.12 for an increased just 2 cents and Proven Investments ordinary share, traded 1,208,025 units at 19.5 US cents after losing 0.05 cents.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange ended trading with 20 securities changing hands and a total of 3,429,742 units, valued at $38,607,071 being active. At the end there were only 2 stocks rising, 6 declining in all market segments. The main market saw 2 stocks rising and 2 declining at the close.
The JSE Market Index rose 518.70 points to 98,795.91. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index added 579.76 points to 109,366.27 and the JSE combined index gained 423.11 points to end at 102,059.58.
