JSE jumps again on Thursday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange surged for the second straight day with all three main indices closing sharply higher at the end of trading on Thursday, even as Scotia Group fell back by $2.43 as well as National Commercial Bank and Sagicor Group by $1 each. Gains in Carib cement, Jamaica Broilers, Portland, Sagicor X Fund and Supreme Ventures offset the big losers.
At the close of the market prices of 17 securities gained out of a total of 40 securities that traded, with 16 declining in the overall market, including 6 stocks, rising and 6 falling in the junior market.
Trading closed with 9,321,811 units valued at $97,260,492 changing hands, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 3,881,493 units, valued at $11,818,736 of all trades.
The JSE Market Index jumped 865.34 points to end at 162,560.77, the all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 967.74 points to close at 180,834.09 and the JSE combined index surged 898.41 points, to end at 173,767.56.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and just 1 with a lower offer.
At the end of market activities, Berger Paints traded 85,404 shares to end at $5, Cable & Wireless traded 211,098 shares and closed at $1.10 after falling 5 cents, Caribbean Cement climbed 75 cents in trading 7,400 shares to close at $26, Carreras rose 1 cent, in trading 141,600 shares to end at $66.01. The price of 1834 Investments declined by 10 cents to close at $1.30, in trading 96,436 shares, Grace Kennedy ended at $45 with 49,232 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers rose 49 cents with 3,000 shares changing hands, to end at $15, Jamaica Producers rose 5 cents to close at $8.25 with 885,713 units trading. Jamaica Stock Exchange had 12,000 units changing hands to close at $24, and record a gain in price of $2.50, JMMB Group traded 500,479 units to end with a loss of 1 cent at $9.86. Mayberry Investments lost 28 cents with 43,869 shares trading, to close at $3.82, National Commercial Bank had 179,619 units changing hands, to close at $41 after falling by $1.Pan Jamaican Investments shed 20 cents to close at $25 after trading 12,977 shares,Portland JSX traded 462,413 shares and rose 50 cents to end at $11.50, Pulse Investments traded 25,000 shares to close at $3.86, Radio Jamaica lost 4 cents in trading 292,253 shares to end at $1.66, Sagicor Group shed $1 with 1,027,275 shares changing hands at $21. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 350,000 shares and climbed 25 cents to close at $10.25, Scotia Group dropped $2.43 while trading 4,815 shares to end at $30, Seprod gained 10 cents to close at $19 with 320,579 shares changing hands. Supreme Ventures gained 29 cents and ended at $4.99, with 393,464 units changing hands and Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd 7.50% preference share, traded 324,092 units at $2.09.
3 new highs for juniors – Thursday
The 3 stocks trading at new highs on Thursday are Blue Power, Jetcon Corporation and Paramount Trading while C2W Music traded at a 52 weeks’ low. At the end of trading 5 stocks closed with bids higher than their last selling prices and 1 ended with a lower offer.
At the close, AMG Packaging closed at $13.12 with 13,263 units changing hands, Blue Power jumped $2.40 and ended at a new all-time high of $19.50 with 7,000 units changing hands, Caribbean Cream rose 35 cents with 32,000 shares changing hands, to close at $7, Consolidated Bakeries lost 5 cents in trading 14,400 units to end at $2.45. C2W Music traded 10,000 shares and lost 4 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ low of 24 cents, Dolphin Cove traded 201,553 shares at $15.50, General Accident lost 1 cent in trading 426,436 units at $2.19, Honey Bun had 40,550 shares changing hands, to close at $5.60. Jamaican Teas traded 4,269 units and gained 5 cents to close at $3.85, Jetcon Corporation traded 44,951 shares and gained 10 cents to close at $3.10, following the company’s six months’ results, Lasco Distributors ended with 1,419,722 shares changing hands and gained 1 cent to land at $7.01. Lasco Financial fell 8 cents while trading 21,000 units to close at $3.32, Lasco Manufacturing closed at $4.81 with 1,596,831 shares trading, after falling 16 cents, Paramount Trading jumped $2.40 to end with 13,650 shares changing hands at $14.50 and Derrimon Trading preference share lost 2 cents ended with 35,868 units changing hands to close at $2.08.
Juniors down majors jump – Thursday
The main market indices of the Jamaica Stock Market jumped sharply at 10:45 AM on Thursday morning but the junior market slipped after just two stocks traded in a moderate trading session with 6 stocks gaining versus 7 that fell.
Trading volumes were generally low except for two securities that traded more than 100,000 shares, these are Cable & Wireless with 150,000 units at $1.10 and Supreme Ventures with 368,964 units at $4.99, Berger Paints traded close to 100,000 units with 85,404 shares at $5.
In trading after the 10:45 cut off Jamaica Producers 725,108 units at $8.20 with the bid at $8.23 to buy 18,050 units, there were no stocks offered for sale.
At 10:45 am only 20 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 743,346 shares changing hands. The average number of shares traded amounts to 37,167 units compared to 80,952 units on Wednesday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index surged 1,287.12 points to 180,953.47, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 1,150.92 points to 162,846.35, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index gained 853.57 points to close at 173,722.72 and the junior market index lost 20.85 points to 2,209.61.
JSE surges on Wednesday
Trading closed with 4,964,196 units valued at $46,303,821 changing hands, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 1,960,611 units, valued at $11,818,736 of all trades.
The JSE Market Index jumped 1,243.35 points to end at 161,695.43, the all Jamaica Composite Index surged 1,390.50 points to close at 179,666.35 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,075.20 points, to end at 172,869.15.

At the end of market activities, Cable & Wireless traded 1,444,611 shares, with the price range for the day, being a low of $1 and a high of $1.16 but it closed at $1.15, Caribbean Cement fell 26 cents in trading 10,175 shares to close at $25.25. Carreras rose 50 cents, in trading 28,721 shares to end at $66, the price of 1834 Investments remained unchanged at $1.40, in trading 99,165 shares, Grace Kennedy fell $1 and ended at $45 with 73,530 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers traded with the price unchanged with 170,389 shares to end at $14.51. Jamaica Producers rose 20 cents to close at $8.20 with 496,696 units trading, Jamaica Stock Exchange had 2,600 units changing hands to close at $21.50, JMMB Group traded 17,438 units to end at $9.87. Kingston Wharves traded 1,000 shares to close at $16 after rising 45 cents, National Commercial Bank had 25,262 units changing hands, to close at $42 after rising by $1.25. Pan Jamaican Investments shed 10 cents to close at $25.20 after trading 32,999 shares, Sagicor Group gained $1 with 1,010 shares changing hands at $22. Scotia Group jumped $3.42 while trading 575,810 shares to end at $32.43 after opening at $29.01 and Seprod fell 9 cents and closed at $18.90 with 20,904 shares changing hands.
Juniors suffer small fall – Wednesday
The junior market declined moderately on Wednesday with just 9 securities changing hands as trading ended with 1,960,611 units, valued at $11,818,736 changing hands. At the close 3 stocks rose while 3 declined with one closing at new highs. The market index fell 7.61 points to close at 2,230.46.
At the end of trading 7 stocks closed with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 ended with lower offers.
At the close, Caribbean Cream had 418,620 shares changing hands, but fell 5 cents to close at $7, Consolidated Bakeries traded 81,150 units to end at $2.50, C2W Music traded 11,000 shares and lost 2 cent to end at 28 cents, Honey Bun had 38,815 shares changing hands with a gain of 1 cent, to close at $5.60. Jamaican Teas traded 3,286 units to close at $3.80, Jetcon Corporation traded 326,248 shares and gained 30 cents to close at $3, following the company’s six months’ results, showing strong gains in profit over the 2015 period. Lasco Distributors ended with 1,054,718 shares changing hands at $7, Lasco Financial gained 10 cents while trading 13,000 units to close at $3.40 and Lasco Manufacturing closed at $4.97 with 13,774 shares trading, after falling 3 cents.
Scotia pushes JSE early Wednesday
Scotia Group stock price surged $3.42 seconds before 10:45AM with 525,810 shares trading at $32.43, after the Jamaica Stock Market indices rose modestly in early trading, but fell back modestly ahead of the Scotia Group jump. Trading on Wednesday remains moderate with only a few stocks trading reasonable volumes at this time of the day.
Jamaica Producers Group (JPG) is the second leading trade with 486,781 units as the price rose 30 cents to $8.20, there are no JPG stock currently being offered for sale. Other noticeable trades include Cable & Wireless with 273,653 units at $1.06, Consolidated Bakeries with 48,150 shares at $2.50, after the company posted profit for the six months to June of $27 million versus $15 million in 2015 with earnings per share ending at 12 cents for the period an just 2 cents for the June quarter. Honey Bun traded 38,815 shares at $5.60 and Jetcon Corporation with 64,203 units at $2.85, with a 15 cents gain.
The market indices all fell in the main and junior markets, with 8 stocks gaining versus 6 that fell.
At 10:45 am only 19 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,538,095 shares changing hands. The average number of shares traded amounts to 80,952 units compared to 123,831 units on Tuesday.

Juniors make full recovery – Tuesday
ISP Finance Services is the only stock trading at new highs on Tuesday. At the end of trading 7 stocks closed with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 ended with lower offers.
At the close, AMG Packaging rose by 62 cents, to close with 24,500 units changing hands at $13.12, Cargo Handlers ended with 3,719 shares changing hands at $72, after trading at an intraday high of $72.02. Caribbean Cream had 3,030 shares changing hands, to close at $7.05, Caribbean Flavours traded 2,900 units to end at $7 with a gain of 48 cents, Caribbean Producers fell 13 cents, in trading 63,478 units to close at $3.30, Consolidated Bakeries traded 80,000 units and lost 5 cents, to end at $2.50. Derrimon Trading ended at $3.05 with 35,868 shares changing hands, General Accident had 239,266 shares changing hands to close 20 cents higher, at $2.20. Honey Bun had 84,181 shares changing hands with a gain of 6 cents, to close at $5.59, ISP Finance Services had 34,654 shares changing hands with a rise of 22 cents to end at 52 weeks’ high of $5. Jamaican Teas traded 9,000 units and fell 20 cents to close at $3.80, Jetcon Corporation traded 99,225 shares and gained 1 cent to close at $2.70, after trading as high as $3. Knutsford Express closed with 176 units changing hands at $20. Lasco Distributors ended with a rise of 20 cents while 222,361 shares changed hands at $7, Lasco Financial traded 43,419 units to close at $3.30, Lasco Manufacturing closed at $5 with 705,000 shares trading, after rising 48 cents. Medical Disposables traded 28,247 shares to close at $3.50 and tTech dropped 65 cents and ended with 4,489 units changing hands at $3.85.
Juniors regain Monday’s losses
Trading levels climbed from Monday’s low level at 10:45 am with several stocks trading over 50,000 units with JJMB Group trading nearly 3 million units.
Stocks trading at a new 52 weeks’ high are Cargo Handlers at $72.02, ISP Finance Services at $5.22. Other noticeable trades include Cable & Wireless with 105,961 units at $1.15, Caribbean Producers with 50,000 units at $3.20, Honey Bun traded 75,372 shares at $5.53, JMMB Group traded 2,537,927 units at $9.87, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share traded 87,835 units at $1.10, Jetcon Corporation with 48,827 units at $3, Lasco Distributors with 217,361 shares at $6.55, Lasco Manufacturing with 665,561 units at $5, Sagicor Group had 170,700 units at $21.50.
