The Jamaica stock market is off to a slow start for the week with low volumes in early Monday morning trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
The leading trades are Radio Jamaica with 50,800 shares at $1.75 and Lasco Financial Services with 78,198 at $3.43 and tTech have 92,965 units changing hands at $4. Iron Rock Insurance has a bid to buy 4,676,395 shares at $3.23 but the stock has not traded so far.
Trading resulted in activity in 21 securities, accounting for a volume of 309,390 units as 6 stocks gained and 4 declined. The average number of shares traded amounts to just 14,733 units compared to an average of 132,153 units on Friday.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Monday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 306.23 points to 177,777.41, the JSE Market Index gained 273.81 points to 160,006.41, the JSE combined index climbed 263.72 to close at 171,568.14 points andthe junior market index rose a mere 0.96 points to 2,255.99.
Slow start to the week – Monday
Pan Jam at new high in early trades
Pan Jamaican Investment traded at $27.40 for a new high with 2.66 million shares and Jamaica Producers traded at $48 for a new 52 weeks’ high with 31,798 shares, in early Friday morning trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
Grace Kennedy traded 21,805 shares, with the price remaining unchanged at $125 with no stock now on offer.
Trading resulted in activity in 23 securities, accounting for a volume of 3,171,661 units as 11 stocks gained and 7 declined. The average number of shares traded amounts to just 132,153 units compared to an average of 63,724 units on Thursday.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Friday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 513.40 points to 177,880.98, the JSE Market Index gained 459.05 points to 160,099.02, the JSE combined index climbed 540.17 to close at 171,659.83 points and the junior market index rose 11.12 points to 2,256.56.
JSE stocks close higher – Wednesday
The JSE Market Index gained 770.88 points to end at 159,719.08. The all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 862.14 points to close at 177,456.06 and the JSE combined index rose 622.59 points, to end at 171,033.62.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading showed 10 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 5 with lower offers.
At the end of market activities, Cable & Wireless lost 1 cent to close at $1.26 after trading 55,726 units, Caribbean Cement traded 50,925 shares and closed at $21. Carreras had 10,471 units trading, to close with a rise of 25 cents at $62.80. Trading place in 52,000 shares of 1834 Investments but the price slipped 2 cents to $1.20. Jamaica Broilers traded 44,400 units changing hands with a decline of 30 cents to close at $14.50. Jamaica Producers traded 3,569 shares and gained $1.50 to end at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $48, Jamaica Stock Exchange had 16,693 units changing hands but gained 2 cents to end at $20.02, JMMB Group rose 2 cents in trading 3,000 units to close at $9.82. National Commercial Bank traded 51,295 shares at $41.12 after shedding 40 cents, Pan Jamaican Investment Trust traded 43,090 shares to end at $27. Radio Jamaica closed trading with 3,000 shares with the price rising 23 cents to end at $1.75, Sagicor Group ended with 169,846 shares changing hands after gaining 30 cents to $23, Scotia Group dropped 59 cents to close at $31.41 with 98,123 units changing hands. Scotia Investments traded 133,125 shares to close at $26.10, Seprod traded 4,400 shares unchanged at $17, Sterling Investments traded 6,000 shares with a gain of $1.49 to close at $12.99 and JMMB Group 7.50% preference share ended with 331,396 units traded at $2.10.
Stocks close week positively on Friday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange ended higher at the close of trading on Friday, with all major market indices recording positive movements, while the volume and value of stocks traded rose above the recent low levels. Supreme Ventures was the dominant trade with 3,590,303 units to close unchanged at $4.50 and 138 Student living with 1 million shares closed at $4.50 after gaining by 10 cents.
Overall, 43 securities changed hands on Friday, accounting for 8,594,535 units valued at $114,210,268, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 2,704,040 shares, valued at $10,558,176 of the all trades. Prices of 16 stocks in the overall market rose, 13 declined, including 8 stocks rising and 4 declining, from the junior market. One stock ended at a new 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index rose 429.50 points to end at 159,771.07. The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 480.36 points to close at 177,514.21 and the JSE combined index climbed 600.38 points, to close at 171,129.99.

Jamaica Producers traded 50,500 shares and gained 90 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $45, JMMB Group traded 3,900 units at $10. Kingston Wharves traded 12,925 shares and rose by 1 cent to $12.03, National Commercial Bank traded 19,535 shares, to close with a loss of 50 cents at $42, Pan Jamaican Investment Trust traded 144,988 shares and lost 50 cents to end at $26.50. Radio Jamaica closed trading with 601,416 shares with the price falling 36 cents to end at $1.42, Sagicor Group ended with 130,377 shares changing hands after adding 35 cents at $23, Scotia Group gained 50 cents to close at $31 as 88,521 units changed hands and Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference shares traded 44,390 units at $1,247.
