55% repo rate hike pressuring TTSE

Massy Holdings shed 51 cents on Tuesday & helped pull TTSE down.

The sharp 55 percent rise in the central bank of Trinidad & Tobago repo rates since last year, continues to take a toll on prices of stocks listed on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange.
In Tuesday’s trading, 10 securities changed hands, one stock gained while the prices of 2 declined pulling down the TTSE two main indices and 7 traded with prices unchanged as a total of 428,778 shares traded, valued at $7,240,375. At the close, the Composite Index declined by 1.04 points to 1,142.48, the All T&T Index fell 2.21 points to 1,947.84 and the Cross Listed Index rose 0.02 points to 44.21.
Gains| Scotia Investments closed 2 cents higher with 30,000 shares changing hands at $1.53, to be the sole stock gaining.
Losses| Massy Holdings had 2,410 shares trading to end at $62.50, after shedding 51 cents and Trinidad Cement suffered a loss of 15 cents to close at $2.75 with 2,120 shares changing hands.

Firm Trades|, ANSA McAL contributed 26,740 shares with a value of $1,798,265 and closed at $67.25, Ansa Merchant Bank traded 984 units at $38.95, Clico Investment Fund traded 189,123 shares valued at $4,256,983 and closed at $22.50, First Citizens Bank had 9,285 shares changing hands valued at $324,975 and ended at $35. Guardian Media added 500 shares to close at $19.76, JMMB Group traded 122,958 shares to close at 42 cents and Sagicor Financial Corporation closed with 34,658 shares changing hands at $6, for a value of $207,948.

Gains| In trading, One Caribbean Media ending with a gain of 39 cents while trading 3,645 shares changing hands at $22.40 and Unilever Caribbean with 353 units changing hands at a new 52 weeks high of $66.76 and gained 8 cents.
Declines| Clico Investment Fund stock price lost 5 cents to $22.50 with 9,540 shares trading at a value of $2,758,458, National Commercial Bank traded a mere 500 shares 1 cent at $1.66 and Trinidad Cement lost 2 cents while trading 45,974 shares.
Firm Trades| First Citizens Bank with 20,179 shares traded valued at $506,226 to close at $35.70, Flavorite Foods traded 606 units at $4.80, Guardian Media had 1,872 units changing hands at $19.76, National Enterprises closed with 1,361 shares trading at $17.20. Republic Bank ended with just 4 units trading at $114.99, Sagicor Financial with 4,125 units trading closed at $6, Scotiabank traded 2,005 units and closed at $62.31 and West Indian Tobacco closed with 300 shares changing hands at $125.40.

Unilever at a new high on Tuesday

Trading on the Trinidad Stock Exchange ended with 12 securities changing hands of which 1 advanced, 2 declined and 9 traded firm with a total of 337,437 units, valued at $1,849,127.
At the close of the market, the Composite Index lost 0.19 points to close at 1,160.99, the All T&T Index was unchanged at 1,968.22 and the Cross Listed Index fell by a mere 0.05 points to end at 46.43.
Gains|, Unilever Caribbean traded 100 shares and gained 2 cents to close at a new high of $66.38 and is the only stock gaining at the close.
Declines| National Commercial Bank declined 1 cent to end the day at $1.79 while trading only 2,664 units and One Caribbean Media traded 868 shares, 1 cent lower at $22.42.

At the close of the market, the Composite Index rose 4.60 points to close at 1,165.93, the All T&T Index fell 1.24 points to close at 1,968.57 and the Cross Listed Index increased by 1.40 points to end at 47.70.
Gains| Stocks increasing in price at the close are, National Commercial Bank with 105,021 shares changing hands for a value of $204,641 and enjoying an increase of 20 cents to end at a new 52 weeks high of $1.95 or the equivalent of J$35, nearly $5 higher than in Jamiaca.
