Scotia Group pushes market sharply up on Friday

The Jamaica stock market closed on Friday with strong movement in the indices to hit the highest levels since March 14, 2008 on the all Jamaica Composite index, for the JSE index it’s the highest since September 19, 2008. The market closed with 9 stocks rising, 9 declining as 29 securities changed hands with 5,441,593 units trading, valued at $44,801,033, in all market segments. 4 stocks closed at new 52 weeks’ high. Scotia Group was the main stock contributing to much of the rise.
At the close, the JSE Market Index jumped 1,849.21 points to 100,992.53, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index climbed 2,066.95 points to close at 111,821.48 and the JSE combined index rose 1,994.84 points to end at 104,636.95.

IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator had a reading of 7 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 6 with offers that were lower.
In trading, Cable and Wireless ended with only 5,877 units changing hands and lost 4 cents to end at 40 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 47,000 shares to close at $7.10 after gaining 10 cents, Gleaner traded at $1.52, up 22 cents after 28,300 shares changed hands, in response the merger of the company’s media operations with that of Radio Jamaica. At the close, Gleaner closed with ten bids above the last traded price with the highest at $1.72, during the day the bid was as high as $2.22. Grace Kennedy traded 13,372 shares at $64, Hardware & Lumber lost $2.25 to close at $12.75 with just 2,006 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers had 11,888 shares changing hands, in closing at $6.37, to record a loss of 63 cents.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange stock traded 67,824 units at $6.80, for a loss of 20 cents, Mayberry Investments had 292,002 shares trading at $3.10 to gain 10 cents. National Commercial Bank had 35,410 shares trading to close with a 49 cents loss at $30, Radio Jamaica traded just 1,200 to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.90 as the price gained 45 cents. Sagicor Group ended trading with 1,017,852 units at $12.96, down 4 cents, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $8.50 while trading 34,000 units, Scotia Group ended with 794,735 units trading as high as $26 but ended at $24, Scotia Investments traded 10,000 shares at $27.08 for an 8 cents rise and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference traded 166,500 units at $2.01..

The Jamaica Stock Market closed on Wednesday with losses in the main market indices with 10 stocks rising, 5 declining as 28 securities changed hands with 1,853,544 units trading, valued at $34,491,265 29, in all market segments with 2 stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ high. At the close, the JSE Market Index fell 296.39 points to 99,143.32, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index declined 331.29 points to close at 109,754.53 and the JSE combined index loss 198.77 points to end at 102,642.11.

Scotia Group ended with 777,213 units trading at $24, for 1 cent rise, Proven Investments traded 20,100 ordinary shares at 18 US cents, down 1 cent. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share closed with 50,000 units changing hands at $2.01.

JSE pushes higher on Tuesday

Jamaica Broilers jumped sharply on Tuesday to end at $6.50

The Jamaica Stock Market closed on Tuesday with strong movement in the indices, as 13 stocks rise, 6 fell and 28 securities changed hands, with 9,621,142 units trading, valued at $29,054,581, in all market segments, 2 stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ high. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded as a new intraday high of $9.10 but closed lower. At the close, the JSE Market Index gained 861.33 points to 99,439.71, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index rose 962.74 points to close at 110,085.82 and the JSE combined index added 1,043.92 points to end at 102,840.88.

In trading, Cable and Wireless ended with 3,100,287 units changing hands and lost 3 cents to 39 cents, Caribbean Cement traded 10,250 shares to close at $7.10 after shedding 35 cents, Carreras gained $1 with 6,385 units trading to close at $52, Gleaner traded at $1.30, up 5 cents after 20,000 shares changed hands. Grace Kennedy traded only 1,830 shares at $65, Jamaica Broilers had 18,800 shares changing hands, in closing at $6.50, to record a new 52 weeks’ high. The Jamaica Stock Exchange stock traded 200,445 units at $7, Mayberry Investments had another large trade amounting to 3,982,668 shares trading between $2.75

and $3. National Commercial Bank had 75,894 shares trading and closed with a 25 cents gain to end at $30, Sagicor Group ended trading with 169,015 units at $13, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $8 while trading 584,560 units and traded as high as $9.10 for a new intraday high. The fund had reported before trading, profit of 8 cents per share in the June quarter, down from 11 cents in the June 2014 quarter and 46 cents per share to June, this year versus 27 cents for the six months to June last year. Scotia Group ended with 6,348 units trading at $23.99, for 1 cent fall and Proven Investments traded 15,625 ordinary shares at 19 US cents.

The Jamaica Stock Market closed on Monday with 12 stocks rising, 7 declining as 26 securities changed hands with 4,213,264 units trading, valued at $26,843,221, in all market segments with 2 stocks closing at new 52 weeks’ high, but lurking in the shadows are activities in National Commercial Bank that could give a big push to the JSE indices. Selling in the stocks has shrunken with a few days of fairly heavy trading in the last week of July. Currently, there are 11 offers with 140,000 units exposed in the market for sale in total, above $30.40.
At the close, the JSE Market Index lost 129.98 points to 98,203.59,

the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 145.29 points to close at 108,705.88 and the JSE combined index added 66.62 points to end at 100,705.88.

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Market closed on Wednesday with 12 stocks rising, 8 declining as 29 securities changed hands with 6,830,260 units trading, valued at $85,544,632, in all market segments.
At the close, the JSE Market Index gained 122.39 points to 98,333.57, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index increased 136.80 points to close at 108,849.45 and the JSE combined index added 361.61 points to end at 100,639.26.

JSE off to slow start to week

After 90 minutes of slow trading on Monday, the Jamaica Stock Exchange had 16 securities trading with 4 stocks rising and 4 declining. A total volume of just over only 740,392 shares have changed hands.
The all Jamaican Composite index gained 117.07 points to 108,649.62 points, JSE Combined Index rose 132.71 points to 100,454.56, JSE Index trades at 98,154.80 points after putting on 104.75 points and Junior Market Index fell to 873.19, up by 3.74 points.
The most noticeable trades so far are, Cable & Wireless trading 565,663 units at 44 cents, for a loss of 2 cents, Gleaner traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $1.70 after trading 20,000 shares, with the stock price rising 17 cents. Pan Jamaican lost 75 cents with just 300 shares trading, Sagicor Group with 516,000 shares closed 30 cents down to $13.20.

Scotia pushes market down on Friday

Prices on the Jamaica Stock Exchange continued to reflect an almost even number of up and down movements in prices as the main market hoovers around support level which it has been at for a large part of June. A fall in the price of Scotia Group contributed to a sharp decline in the main market on Friday but the market closed looking stronger than at the ended on Thursday.
Trading concluded with 8 stocks rising, 8 declining as 22 securities changed hands, ended in 3,083,351 units trading, valued at $32,242,560 and 4 stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high in all market segments. Overall activity resulted in JSE Market Index declining 976.49 points to 98,050.05. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index lost 1,091.46 points to close at 108,532.55 and the JSE combined index fell 1,118.74 points to end at 100,321.85.

Scotia Climb keeps indices rising

Prices on the Jamaica Stock Exchange continued in a positive mode on the second day of July, albeit not as strong as on the first, but it ended on a high, with Scotia Group climbing for the second day, after it posted gains of $1.25 on Wednesday. The movement in the banking group stock price, was again the main contributor to the rise of the main indices on Thursday.
The market closed with a large number of stocks showing softness suggesting that there could be large number of declines evens as advances may pick up from today’s levels.
Trading ended with 9 stocks rising, 5 declining as 23 securities changed hands and ending in 1,876,486 units trading, valued at $10,673,692 and 1 stock closed at 52 weeks’ high in all market segments.
The JSE Market Index declined 284.62 points to 99,026.54 the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 318.14 points to close at 109,624.01 but the JSE combined index rose 223.92 points to end at 101,440.59 thanks to gains in the junior market offsetting declines in the main market.

In trading, Cable & Wireless had 539,627 units changing hands to close at 46 cents. Caribbean Cement had 117,440 units trading at $5.50 after shedding another 20 cents on top of 30 cents on Wednesday. Desnoes and Geddes traded 7,086 shares at $7.39 to end down 15 cents, Gleaner ended with 30452 shares changing hands, to gain 2 cents, for a 52 weeks’ high of $1.50. Jamaica Broilers gained 30 cents to reach $5.75 while only 2,000 shares changed hands, the stock closed with an off at $5.65,

Jamaica Stock Exchange traded just 2,000 shares and shed 35 cents in closing at $5.75, at the close the bid was at $6.15. National Commercial Bank in trading 26,067 shares, to close higher by 86 cents at $29.90, Pan Jamaican rose 50 cents to $62 with 22,779 shares trading, the stock was mostly down on the day at $61.10. Sagicor Group with 20,883 units trading, ended unchanged at $13.01, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 80,000 units with a decline of 38 cents to $7.62 and Scotia Group that traded 106,740 shares to close at $24.94 to gain 43 cents but closed with the offer at $24.50. Jamaica Money Market Brokers 8.75% preference share traded 649,316 to gain 2 cents at $3.

Scotia rose to $24.50 during trading to help push market on Wednesday

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended commenced the start of July with strong showing as Scotia Group climbed $1.25 to help push the main indices strongly upwards and pushing one time in trading the All Jamaica Composite index over 2,000 points.
Trading ended with 12 stocks rising, 7 declining as 29 securities changed hands and ending in 12,250,815 units trading, valued at $88,380,669 and 3 stocks closed at 52 weeks’ high in all market segments. The main market closed with 6 stocks advancing to 3 falling.
The JSE Market Index declined 1,470.77 points to 98,741.92 the JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 1,643.93 points to close at 109,305.87 but

the JSE combined index rose 1,218.10 points to end at 101,216.67 thanks to gains in the junior market offsetting declines in the main market.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator was showing a poor reading of only 6 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 7 with offers that were lower, a deterioration over the ratio of 10 to 6 on Tuesday.

Caribbean Cement had only 3,410 units trading at $5.70 after shedding 30 cents, Carreras lost 79 cents in trading just 27,687 shares to close at $48.21. Desnoes and Geddes traded at $7.55 with 42,504 shares, Gleaner ended with 13,000 shares changing hands to gain 8 cents, for a 52 weeks’ high of $1.48, Grace Kennedy gained 50 cents to reach $64 while 132,737 shares changed hands. Kingston Wharves traded just 1,000 shares and shed 55 cents in closing at $6.60,

National Commercial Bank in trading 25,835 shares, to close unchanged at $29.04, Pan Jamaican Investment had 21,147 shares changing hands at $61.50, Pulse Investments traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of 70 cents after adding 15 cents with 9,000 shares trading. Proven Investments ended with 366,320 ordinary shares trading at 21.2 US cents, up from US$21, Sagicor Group gained just 1 cent with 147,788 units trading, to end at $13.01 after trading as high as $14.50, a new 52 weeks’ high and Scotia Group that traded 10,505 shares to close at $24.50 after trading at $25 and as low as $23.25 to gain $1.25.
