The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market ended with Grace Kennedy trading at a 52 weeks intraday high of $120 but ended at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $111. The last time the stock traded so high, was March 2015, but the stock is still priced below the all-time high of $123, reached in February of that 2015.
A total of 32 securities changed hands, accounting for 3,191,366 units valued at just $23,420,615, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 829,940 shares valued at $2,963,453 of the overall trades.
Investors pushed the price of 13 stocks in the overall market up, 7 down, including 3 stocks rising and only 2 declining, from the junior market as two stocks in the main market hit new highs.
The JSE Market Index gained 861.29 points to end at 156,732.93. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 963.24 points to close at 174,116.44 and the JSE combined index climbed 805.29 points, to close at 167,216.37.

Grace Kennedy climbed $1 in trading 24,384 units, to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $111, after trading at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $120. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 158,156 shares at $10.12, Scotia Group fell 15 cents to close at $32.55, as 27,141 units changed hands. Supreme Ventures lost 22 cents in trading 359,687 units to close at $4.65, Proven Investments added 3 cents in trading 286,857 shares at 19.99 US cents, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share had 92,900 units changing hands at $1.04 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 490,000 units at $2.10 but of these stocks losing 1 cent.

Moderate JSE trading Thursday

Trading levels have been moderate in the early Thursday morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with a fall in the average number of securities trading after 75 minutes of the market’s opening compared with the levels on Wednesday. After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Thursday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 69.79 points to 170,983.33, the JSE Market Index rose 62.40 points to 153,931.43, the JSE combined index gained 139.33 points, to 164,627.66 and the junior market index rose 7.94 points to 2,129.12.
No trade accounted for 100,000 units or more with Barita Investments coming closest as the price fell 45 cents to $3.05 while trading 90,700 shares.
Trading resulted in activity in 25 securities, accounting for a mere 382,827 units versus 3,602,821 shares changing hands on Wednesday as 13 stocks gained and 6 declined. The average number of shares traded is just 15,313 units compared to an average of 128,672 units on Wednesday.

Pan Jamaican jumps $22 to a 52 weeks’ high of $120 against the back ground of low level of trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the main market on Thursday, but the indices that slipped close to 1000 points in the first hour of trading recovered to suffer a mild declined at the end.
The market closed with 39 securities changed hands, accounting for 3,962,072 units valued at $115,119,749, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 446,394 units of the shares traded, valued at $1,996,471. Investors pushed the price of 7 stocks in the overall market up, 15 were pushed down including 3 stocks rising and 6 declining, from the junior market.

JSE build Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday ended with low volumes in the main market as just 1.48 million shares traded, well below the junior market. A total of 35 securities changed hands, accounting for 18,969,634 units valued at $146,769,004, in all market segments.
The junior market accounted for 17,488,687 shares valued at $129,088,773. At the close of trading 11 stocks in the overall market gained, 11 declined, including 6 of the stocks rising and 4 declining coming from the junior market. Two stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs in the junior market and none in the main market.

Juniors stocks got hit hard in early trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with the index falling 3 percent as 6 stocks in fell including all two of the Lasco companies as one stock gained after 90 minutes of trading.

Attempts were made to trade Barita Investments at $3 with 35,250 units changing hands but the trade was cancelled as it exceeded 30 percent for the day, this is following the company’s release of first quarter results which showed a fall in profit as a result of increased cost, the stock traded at $4.20, Ciboney traded 2,953,517 units at 13 cents Scotia Group had 1,053,652 shares changing hands at $32.80, AMG Packaging fell to $14 after the stock traded as high as $21.50 last week on low volume and tTech traded at $5.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 285.01 points to 175,058.19, the JSE Market Index rose 255.02 points to 157,577.63, the JSE combined index fell 340.25 points to 168,240.49 and the junior market index dropped 64.27 points to 2,176.36.
