A total of 22 securities traded of which 10 advanced and only 3 fell, resulting in a volume of a mere 497,348 shares changing hands carrying a value of a $2,887,938 compared with 3,513,020 shares changing hands with a value of $22,530,339 on Thursday at 11:30 AM. The average number of shares traded, amount to 22,607units versus 26,142 units on Thursday.
At 10:45 am the all Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,480.50 points to 194,907.23 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 1,323.83 points to 178,343.83, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index surged 1,288.80 points to close at 190,099.49 and the junior market index rose5.95 points to end at 2,404.92.
In trading Cable & Wireless had 185,639 units changing hands at 75 cents, Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 34,094 shares at $5.50, Radio Jamaica had 102,700 units changing hands at $1.35 and 138 Student Living Jamaica had 60,400 units trading at $5.
JSE climbs sharply in morning session
JSE indices up moderately
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange is off to a modest start on Thursday. Trading in junior market stocks has seen just 5 securities trading. Trading volume and values were down from Wednesday’s level with advancing stocks being beaten by declining ones.
The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 200.57 points to 185,419.96 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 179.35 points to 166,840.20, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index gained 216.17 points to close at 179,187.30 and the junior market index inched up 4.85 points to 2,381.16.
At 10.45 am, a total of 22 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 893,707 shares changing hands carrying a value of $6,616,329, compared to 1,549,643 shares changing hands carrying a value of $11,650,702, on Wednesday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 40,623 units compared to 55,344 on Wednesday. Market activity resulted in 7 stocks falling while the prices of 5 securities rose.
In trading activity JMMB Group traded 65,446 units at $13.66, Mayberry Investments have exchanged 50,000 units at $3.50, Sagicor Group traded 35,000 shares at $22.70, Proven Investments had 98,471 shares changing hands at 19.95 US cents. 138 Student Living traded 503,737 shares at $4.70
2 new highs for junior market
The junior market rose moderately but three stocks traded at new highs in the morning session as Caribbean Cream hit $10.20 in trading just 4,823 shares and Blue Power traded at $21. tTech traded up to $6 with 48,521 unit. The advance decline ratio was positive at more than 2 to 1.
At 11:45 am 38 securities traded, resulting in a volume of just 3,624,650 shares carrying a value of $18.2 million changing hands compared to 2,159,587 shares carrying a value of approximately $2.16 million on Tuesday. The average number of shares traded amounts to only The 95,386 units compared to 79,985 units on Tuesday. The number of stocks falling are 8 while the prices of 18 securities rose as the market continues to consolidate.
138 Student Living traded 641,007 units and gained 20 cents to $4.70 and Lasco Financial Services trades 1,266,578 shares but fell down to $3.10 from $3.45 at the close on Tuesday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 102.03 points to 177,425.60, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 91.24 points to 159,691.81, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index rose 270.06 points to close at 171,561.63 and the junior market index rose 18.06 points to 2,284.16.
138SL dominates – Wednesday
Investors pushed the price of 16 stocks in the overall market up, 11 down, including 8 stocks rising and 4 declining, from the junior market. The JSE Market Index moved up 445.09 points to end at 153,869.03. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 497.77 points to close at 170,913.54 and the JSE combined index gained 233.84 points, to close at 164,488.33.

Grace Kennedy rose 10 cents with 69,224 shares trading to close at $88.10, the price of 1834 Investments rose by 2 cents in trading 28,349 units to close at $1.02, Jamaica Broilers closed with a fall of 15 cents at $14.50 while trading 13,760 shares. Jamaica Producers traded 43,641 shares at $35, JMMB Group traded 7,330 shares at $9.80, for a 10 cents loss. Kingston Wharves traded 60,957 at $11.65, Mayberry Investments traded 61,305 shares at $3.99 after falling by a cent, National Commercial Bank traded 80,771 shares, to close with a rise of 10 cents at $39.85. Pan Jamaican Investment pulled back 6 cents to close trading at $124.94 with 25,981 shares changing hands, Radio Jamaica rose 2 cents in trading 11,920 shares at $1.12, Sagicor Group ended with 172,274 shares changing hands, but fell 80 cents, to end at $22.20. Scotia Group closed with a gain of $1 to end at $31 while 16,216 units changed hands, Supreme Ventures closed at $4.70 with 50,959 shares trading after rising 5 cents, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share ended with 45,500 units trading at $2.11 after falling by 3 cents.
Trading up on JSE – Wednesday
Trading levels picked up the early Wednesday morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with an increased with the average number of securities trading almost doubling after 75 minutes of the market’s opening. The volume traded also increased well over the amount traded on Tuesday by 69 percent.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Wednesday, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 175.88 points to 170,239.89, the JSE Market Index declined by 157.27 points to 153,266.67, the JSE combined index fell 150.58 points, to 164,103.91 and the junior market index lost 0.46 points to 2,138.18.
Stocks traded with 100,000 units or more include, Cable & Wireless traded 328,761 shares at $1.26, Caribbean Cement with 501,000 shares at $27, Carreras with 109,992 units at $64 and 138 Student Living 1,991,000 units at $4.50, in the junior market, General Accident Insurance with 132,318 shares at $2 and Lasco Financial Services with 106,630 units at $3.40.
Trading resulted in activity in 28 securities, accounting for 3,602,821 shares changing hands as 10 stocks gained and 8 declined. The average number of shares traded is 128,672 units compared to an average of 68,756 units on Tuesday.

The JSE Market Index lost 144.01 points to 153,042.48 the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 160.95 points to end at 169,989.89 and the JSE combined index shed 569.64 points to close at 162,059.55.
