Trading jumps on Junior Market – Friday

Caribbean Producers commanded the largest trade on Friday.

Trading picked up on the Junior Market with more than 3,595,987 units changing hands, well up on the 786,779 units trading on Thursday. Traded valued also climbed sharply over Thursday’s low level of $4,004,721 to end at $20,377,796.
At the close 18 securities traded, up from 17 on Thursday, with the market index posting a loss of 31.61 points to end at 3,008.64, as the price of 6 stocks advanced and 8 declined. Trading closed with 1 stock having a higher bid than the last traded price and 4 closing with lower offers.
The Junior Market ended trading with an average of 199,777 units for an average value of $1,132,100 compared to 46,281 units for an average value of $235,572 on Thursday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 60,745 units valued at $336,751, compared 46,842 units valued at $257,217 previously. In contrast, June closed with averages of 395,969 units valued at $1,799,200 for each security traded.
At the close of the market, Blue Power saw investors buying 419 shares and close $6 higher at $50, Caribbean Producers shed 68 cents and closed trading with 2,407,473 units, at $3.01, Derrimon Trading ended with 500 units changing hands, to close at $8.02 after adding 2 cents. Junior Market jumps – Thursday

Caribbean Cream ended down with a sharp fall in Q1 profit.

Trading on the Junior Market continues to remain low, with 786,779 units valued $4,004,721 trading, resulting from 17 active securities, up from 14 on Wednesday when 246,438 units valued at $1,330,403 passed through the market.
The market index continued the recovery from the steep fall recently, posting 57.54 points rise to end at 3,040.25 as the price of 7 stocks advanced and 8 declined. Trading closed with 3 stocks having higher bids than their last traded prices and 3 closing with lower offers.
The Junior Market ended trading with an average of only 46,281 units for an average value of $235,572 compared to 17,603 units for an average value of $95,029 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 46,842 units valued at $257,217, compared 46,904 units valued at $259,622 previously. In contrast, June closed with averages of 395,969 units valued at $1,799,200 for each security traded.
At the close of the market, Access Financial Services rose 50 cents to close at $46.50 in trading 101 units, Caribbean Cream lost 30 cents and ended at $7 with 115,109 shares trading, after the company posted lower profit in the first quarter ending in May, with earnings of 9 cents per share versus 19 cents in the similar quarter in 2016. Caribbean Producers rose 19 cents and closed trading with 1,416 units to end at $3.69, Consolidated Bakeries closed trading with 62,875 shares and lost 10 cents, to close at $2.62, Derrimon Trading ended with 11,510 units changing hands, to close at $8 after slipping 5 cents. Dolphin Cove jumped $2.50 to end at $20 with 3,095 shares changing hands, General Accident closed trading with 16,215 shares to end at $2.70, after falling 20 cents, Honey Bun fell 16 cents to close trading with 6,419 shares to end at $5.54, ISP Finance closed with 263 units changing hands at $16, Jamaican Teas ended trading 139,044 shares, to end at $3.80, Jetcon Corporation traded 1,000 shares and fell 30 cents to end at $4.50, Knutsford Express traded 1,208 shares to end at $15, after falling 49 cents, Lasco Distributors rose 73 cents and closed at $6.98 after trading 201,000 units, Lasco Financial ended with 207,492 shares changing hands and rose 10 cents to end at $3.70, Lasco Manufacturing rose 10 cents and ended with 9,820 shares trading, to close at $4.40, Main Event rose 42 cents with 212 shares trading to end at $5.60, and Paramount Trading ended at $2.99 with 10,000 units trading.

JSE majors rebound halted – Thursday

Sagicor Group dropped $3 to help pull the main market indices down on Thursday.

More prices fell at the close of trading on the main market stocks of the Jamaica Stock Exchange at the close on Thursday with the market indices shedding some value. At the, the All Jamaica Composite Index declined 648.56 points to close at 257,826.72, the JSE Market Index fell 590.91 points to 234,909.35 and the JSE US dollar market index gained 0.45 points to close at 172.62.
Big fall in the prices of Jamaica Broilers, Sagicor Group, Scotia Group and Supreme Ventures were the main contributors to the main market fall. At the close of trading, 23 securities changed hands in the main market with 1 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 7 stocks advancing and 10 declining. The main market ended with 1,294,238 units valued at $29,684,333 changing hands compared to 2,769,523 units valued at $67,527,250 at the close on Wednesday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 36,275 units valued at US$8,006, bringing the total of all trades to J$30,711,439.

Net FX inflows rise J$ value falls – Thursday

The Jamaican dollar gave back 9 cents of its value as measured by the average selling rate for the United States dollar on Thursday as net inflows into the Jamaican foreign exchange market declined on Thursday from the net position on Wednesday.
At the close, the United States currency was being sold at an average of J$128.38, co0mpared to J$128.30 on Wednesday. Dealers bought the US currency at an average of J$127.55, up slightly from JS$127.53 previously. Dealers bought the equivalent of US$8 million more funds than they sold, up from US$15 million on the prior trading day, bringing the surplus for the week to US$44.5 million.
Dealers purchased US$37 million and sold US$29 million, of all currencies on Thursday. On Wednesday, US$47.87 million entered the market and US$32.54 million was sold to the public.
In USA dollar trading, inflows into the system ended at US$35 million versus US$41.3 million previously, while selling amounted to US$28 million versus US$27.9 million on Wednesday.
The selling rate for the Canadian dollar rose to J$101.12 from J$100.04 at the close on Wednesday, while the British Pound was more costly at the close on Thursday, with J$166.91 buying the British currency versus J$164.23 on Wednesday and the Jamaican dollar fell in value against the euro, with it taking J$147.14 to buy the European common currency on Thursday, versus Wednesday’s rate of J$146.28.

Trading on the Junior Market remains very low, with just 246,438 units valued at $1,330,403 trading resulting from 14 securities trading, down from 16 securities on Tuesday.

On Tuesday 405,167 units valued at $2,384,673 passed through the market.
The market index breaks its recent decent, as it is approaches close to a short term support level and rose a mere 3.48 points, to end at 2,982.71, as the price of 1 stock advanced and 3 declined.

Big bounce for JSE majors – Wednesday

Proven Investment ended at a new closing high of $24.61 on the JSE main market.

The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange climbed sharply at the close on Wednesday as more stocks rose than fall, helping to drive the indices up by more than 2,300 points.

At the close, the All Jamaica Composite Index jumped 2,558.93 points to  258,475.28, just 1,000 points lower than the close on Thursday last week, before it dropped on Friday by 5,207.13 points.
At the end of trading, the JSE Market Index surged 2,331.48 points to 235,500.26 and the JSE US dollar market index closed unchanged at 172.17. Twenty five (25) securities changed hands in the main market, with 2 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 11 stocks advancing and 6 declining. The main market ended with 2,769,523 units valued at $67,527,250 changing hands compared to 4,342,047 units valued at $87,253,212 at the close on Tuesday. 15 stocks gained – Tuesday

Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded at an all-time high on Tuesday.

Gains in the prices of 15 stocks on the main market stocks of the Jamaica Stock Exchange drove the indices up at the close on Tuesday, adding to the big gains on Monday, but the gains over the past two years are not enough to wipe the 5,207 points drop on Friday last, that left the All Jamaica Index at 254,236.40 on Friday. Down from 259,443.53 on the previous day.
The All Jamaica Composite Index advanced 1,268.06 points to close at 255,916.35, the JSE Market Index gained 1,155.35 points to 233,168.78 and the JSE US dollar market index lost 0.06 points to close at 172.17.
At the close of trading, 22 securities changed hands in the main market with 1 trading in the US dollar market, and one in the bond market leading to 15 stocks advancing and 3 declining. The main market ended with 4,342,047 units valued at $87,253,212 changing hands compared to 1,989,011 units valued at $20,502,913 at the close on Monday. The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market index recovered from the sharp fall on Monday to post some modest gains at the close of trading on Monday, but declining stocks still outnumbered advancing ones, 2 to 1 as investors continue to mark the majority of prices down on a day of modest trading.
At the close, the All Jamaica Composite Index added 411.89 points to close at 254,648.29, the JSE Market Index gained 375.28 points to 232,013.43 and the JSE US dollar market index shed 3.42 points to close at 172.23.
At the close of trading, 23 securities changed hands in the main market, with 2 trading in the US dollar market, Activity led to just 5 stocks advancing and 11 declining. The main market ended with 1,989,011 units valued at $78,337,785 changing hands compared to 3,946,660 units valued at $78,337,785 at the close on Friday. Junior Market down 7% in July

The Junior Market took another big hit on Monday, as trading levels dipped 77 percent below Friday’s levels, with a fall of 66.04 points, the second consecutive day of more than 60 points fall, following the near 69 points loss on Friday.
The latest fall, brings the loss since the start of July to 224 points or 7 percent, with index closing at 2,998.42 points, which is the lowest level since April 18, this year, when the index closed at 2,998.48. The market index is down 11 percent since it peaked at an all-time high of 3,375.24 points on May 24, this year.
Market activity resulted in declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones 8 to 7, as 18 securities were traded versus 19 on Friday. Investors exchanged a mere 405,167 units valued at $2,384,673 compared with 1,798,125 units valued at $9,009,745 on Friday.

The Junior Market ended trading with an average of 22,509 units for an average value of $132,482 compared to 94,638 units for an average value of $474,197 on Friday. Jamaica stock market plunged on Friday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market had a big hit on Friday as declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones, 2 to 1 as investors marked prices of several stocks sharply down leading to a fall of more than 5,000 points in the all Jamaica composite Index.
At the close, the All Jamaica Composite Index plunged 5,207.13 points to close at 254,236.40, the JSE Market Index dived 4,744.29 points to 231,638.15 and the JSE US dollar market index gained 2.61 points to close at 175.65.
At the close of trading, 27 securities changed hands in the main market, with 1 trading in the US dollar market, and 1 in bond market. Activity led to 7 stocks advancing and 13 declining.
