Stocks slide but market rises

Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund dominated the volume traded on Friday, accounting for an 871 percent rise in the number of shares traded, with the value jumping 363 percent higher than on Thursday, on a day when declining stocks beat out rising ones two to one on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index rose 1,817.92 points to 454,375.81, the JSE Main Index gained 754.27 points to end at 422,066.55 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.44 points to settle at 104.74.
At the close, 49 securities traded, compared to 48 on Thursday, with 13 stocks rising, 28 declining and eight ended unchanged. The PE Ratio ended with an average of 16.2 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 119,750,700 shares trading for $599,497,233 versus 12,330,202 units at $129,542,064 on Thursday. Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund accounted for 89.8 percent of total volume, with 107.57 million shares, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.9 percent for 3.49 million units, Transjamaican Highway with 2.2 percent for 2.58 million and NCB Financial Group with 1.7 percent for 2.13 million units changing hands.
Trading averages 2,443,892 stock units at $12,234,637  versus 256,879 shares at $2,698,793 on Thursday. Trading for the month to date averages 436,367 units at $4,623,132, in contrast to 326,458 units at $4,206,413 on Thursday. Trading in April ended with an average of 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

Pulse Investments gained 44 cents to end at $4.80 with 706,754 units crossing the market, Sagicor Group rose 74 cents to close at $52.75 in switching ownership of 12,435 stocks, Seprod advanced $1.49 to $75 after clearing the market with 27,751 shares, Sterling Investments shed 30 cents to close at $3 with an exchange of 94,051 stocks, Victoria Mutual Investments declined 5 cents to close at $6.96 after trading 137,328 stock units and Wisynco Group rose 65 cents to $15.75 with 28,000 shares changing hands.
In the preference segment, Community & Workers Credit Union preference share shed 21 cents to close at $1.69 in trading 119,727 units. Eppley 7.5% preference shares declined $3.81 to end at $7.19 with 548 units changing hands and Eppley 8.25% lost 19 cents to close at $6.80, trading 2,024 stock units.

Steady trading for JSE Main Market

Market activity ended on Thursday with only the All Jamaican Composite rising after more stocks advanced than declined, with an exchange of 55 percent fewer shares valued 83 percent lower than on Wednesday at the close of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index gained 109.54 points to 452,557.89, the JSE Main Index shed 184.88 points to 421,312.28 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.05 points to settle at 104.30.
Trading ended with 48 securities, similar to Wednesday, with 23 stocks rising, 17 declining and eight remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.3 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 12,330,202 shares trading for $129,542,064 versus 27,181,743 units at $767,234,675 on Wednesday. Pulse Investments led trading with 25.6 percent of total volume after an exchange of 3.16 million, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 18.3 percent for 2.26 million units and Jamaica Broilers 8.6 percent with 1.06 million.

Guardian dominates JSE trading

Guardian Holdings dominated market activity after trading 713,248 shares, with a value of just over $549 million, after a drop in the price by $19.50 to a new low of $770 on Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Wednesday, with the market losing ground for a second consecutive day after advancing stocks beat out declining ones 3 to 2 with an exchange of 116 percent more shares valued 348 percent higher than on Tuesday.

Guardian Holdings hit a 52 weeks’ high of $30 on Tuesday.

The All Jamaican Composite Index fell 1,023.18 points to 452,448.35, the JSE Main Index declined 1,934.22 points to 421,497.16 and the JSE Financial Index shed 0.86 points to settle at 104.35.
Trading ended with 48 securities down from 49 on Tuesday, with 24 rising, 17 declining and seven remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.1 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.

Main Market loses ground to close out week

Demand for stocks declined on Friday in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, with the volume of stocks trading falling 48 percent and the value of stocks exchanged dropping 82 percent lower than Thursday’s market activity leading to a slight dip in the main market indices with the advancing stocks just edging out those declining.
The All Jamaican Composite Index shed 202.86 points to 454,479.33, the Main Index fell 257.00 points to 424,303.18 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.04 points to close 105.33.
Trading ended with 48 securities compared to 50 on Thursday, with 19 stocks rising, 18 declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio closed with an average of 16.3 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 13,537,949 shares trading for $85,630,782 down sharply from 26,264,484 units at $470,763,094 on Thursday. JSE Main market bounces back

Market activity ended on Thursday, with the market recovering almost all of the losses of the previous two days after advancing stocks edged out declining ones, with the overall traded volume and value climbing 211 percent and 357 percent respectively compared to Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 3,237.08 points to 454,682.19, the Main Index advanced 2,716.72 points to 424,560.18, and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.97 points to settle at 105.37.
Trading ended with 50 securities compared to 47 on Wednesday, with 18 stocks rising, 16 declining and 16 remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 forecast of earnings, is 16.1.

At the close 26,264,484 shares traded for $470,763,094 versus 8,440,224 units at $102,931,227 on Wednesday. JSE Main Market in turbulent zone

Just below 460,000 points is proving to be a turbulent area for the Main Market on Tuesday after coming close during the morning session at 459,212 points the index of locally based Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market stocks pulled back sharply at the close. In today’s trading, the market moved up to 456,129 points but again failed to hold onto early gains and closed with the market index slipping from Tuesday close.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index declined 2,953.62 points to close tab 451,445.11, the Main Index shed 2,482.03 points to 421,843.46 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.98 points to settle at 104.40.

Guardian knocks JSE Main Index

Market activity ended on Tuesday with the market indices all declining, but the JSE Main Index sustaining the greater loss of 6,266.26 points to close at 424,325.49, with Guardian Holdings dropping $110, with NCB Global announcing on Monday the offer of 2 million shares to the public at $795 each. Trading ended after an exchange of 31 percent fewer shares valued 30 percent less than on Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.

JSE Main Market in resistance territory

Market activity pushed the All Jamaican Composite Index up 4,686 points in the early morning session to just over 456,400 points and close to resistance level on Monday and the market managed to hold on 3,056.45 points at the close to end at 454,770.11, on the Main Market of Jamaica Stock Exchange, at the same time, the Main Index rose 2,576.48 points to 430,591.75, and the JSE Financial Index gained 1.14 points to settle at 108.27.
At the close, 51 securities traded, up from 49 on Friday, with 20 rising, 23 declining and eight ending unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.2 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The volume and values of shares traded, fell 46 percent and 48 percent respectively compared to Friday levels, as 17,166,156 shares changed hands for $158,866,078 versus 31,695,926 units at $306,013,533 on Friday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 40.9 percent of total volume, with 7 million shares followed by JMMB Group 7.5% took 14.1 percent of the market, with 2.43 million units, Transjamaican Highway accounted for 10.5 percent with 1.80 million units and Pan Jam Investment with 7.4 percent after 1.14 million units changed hands.
Trading averaged 336,591 units at $3,115,021, compared to 646,856 shares at $6,245,174 on Friday. Trading month to date averages 325,653 units at $3,484,171, in contrast to 324,542 units at $3,521,674 on Friday. April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

Sagicor Group advanced $3.40 to $53.95, with 158,237 units crossing the market, Sagicor Real Estate Fund shed 75 cents to end at $7.55 in an exchange of 10,397 stocks. Salada Foods slipped 60 cents to $7.06 with a transfer of 47,709 shares, Scotia Group gained 30 cents to end at $41.30 in exchanging 128,645 stocks. Seprod fell 37 cents to close at $77.57 in switching ownership of 18,230 units, Sterling Investments rose 50 cents in closing at $3.50 with 255,486 stock units changing hands. Supreme Ventures gained 31 cents to settle at $19.81 in switching ownership of 37,888 units, Sygnus Credit Investments closed 75 cents higher at $15.50 in the swapping of 624,203 stock units and Victoria Mutual Investments rose 69 cents to $6.99 after an exchange of 227,405 units.
In the preference segment, 138 Student Living Preference share advanced 81 cents in closing at $6.24 after exchanging 46 shares and Eppley 8.25% gained 85 cents to end at $7 in transferring 1,500 stocks.

Main market retreats from robust early gains

Stocks trading climbed sharply on Friday with an exchange of 118 percent more shares valued 268 percent more than in Thursday trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market. The All Jamaican Composite Index just managed to squeeze out a gain of 87.75 points to close at 451,713.66 after it traded up close to 6,000 points to a high of 457,408.33 within an hour of the market’s opening.  

JSE All Jamaica Composite Index heading for the top of the upward sloping channel top at 460,000 points and could face resistance there.

The JSE Main Index rose 581.22 points to settle at 428,015.27 and The JSE Financial Index gained 0.24 points to end at 107.13.
Trading ended with 49 securities compared to 47 on Thursday and ended with prices of 21 stocks rising, 17 declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.5 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 31,695,926 shares trading for $306,013,533 compared to 14,522,547 units at $83,441,774 on Thursday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 41.6 percent of total volume for 13.18 million shares, followed by Supreme Ventures with 31.7 percent for 10.04 million units and JMMB Group 7.50% with 5.4 percent for 1.70 million units changing hands.
Trading averaged 646,856 units at $6,245,174, compared to an average of 308,990 shares at $1,775,357 on Thursday. Trading month to date averages 324,542 units at $3,521,674, in contrast to 289,678 units at $3,227,079 on Thursday. Trading in April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

Jamaica Broilers ended $1 lower at $34.50 in exchanging 30,864 units, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 24 cents to close at $17.99 with 11,600 stock units crossing the market, JMMB Group rose $1.05 to $33.05 in trading 33,966 units, Kingston Wharves advanced $1 to end at $48 in an exchange of 3,152 stocks, NCB Financial declined $1.50 to $138.50 after transferring 39,781 units, 138 Student Living gained 30 cents to end at $5.30 in exchanging 2,129 stocks. PanJam Investment rose $1 to close at $66.50 in trading 594,688 units, Proven Investments rose 94 cents to $37.95 in trading 26,800 shares, Sagicor Group closed 54 cents higher at $50.55 in an exchange of 35,406 stocks. Salada Foods rose 86 cents to $7.66 in switching ownership of 116,542 stock units, Scotia Group shed 50 cents to end at $41 in trading 20,188 units, Supreme Ventures picked up 50 cents to close at $19.50 with the swapping of 10,037,859 shares, Victoria Mutual Investments declined 78 cents to $6.30 in trading 154,338 stock units and Wisynco Group gained 30 cents to close at $15.90, with 240,532 shares crossing the exchange.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.25% shed 74 cents to close at $6.15 with 1,800 stock units changing hands, JMMB Group 7.25% rose 19 cents to $1.46 in transferring 3,019 stocks and JMMB Group 7.15% – 2028 lost 18 cents to finish at $2.82 trading 20,000 shares.
