Big swing for JSE indices

Wild swings continue in market activity on Friday, with the All Jamaican Composite Index falling 7,642 points from the day high of 466,915.58 points in the early morning session with Sagicor Group rising to $56.50 from $54 at the close on Thursday to be the main contributor to the early rise. The market failed to hang on to the early gains and declined 2,499.76 points to close at 59,273.23, within the region of resistance.
At the close, the JSE Main Index fell 749.88 points to end at 426,420.61 and the JSE Financial Index slipped 0.09 points to 105.65.
Trading ended with 49 securities compared to 53 on Thursday, with 19 stocks rising, 16 declining and 14 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, a measure that determines an appropriate relative value of each stock, averages 17.1 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings forecast.
The market closed with 18 percent more shares trading than on Thursday, with 12,127,180 shares for $631,548,664, some 232 percent higher than on Thursday, compared to 10,251,097 units at $190,490,762 on Thursday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 21.5 percent of total volume for an exchange of 2.60 million shares followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 11.6 percent for 1.41 million units and Carreras 10.3 percent with 1.25 million units.
Trading averaged 247,493 units at $12,888,748, compared to 193,417 shares at $3,594,165 on Thursday. Trading month to date averages 233,635 units at $5,124,111, in contrast to 231,890 units at $4,146,046 on Thursday. May ended with an average of 439,937 units at $4,698,961.

Sagicor Group spiked $3 to $57 after 526,416 shares cleared the market. Scotia Group fell 44 cents to close at $39.56, with 124,591 stocks changing hands. Seprod rose 99 cents to $74.99 after exchanging 57,110 stock units, Supreme Ventures gained 50 cents to close at $20.50 after trading 214,253 units and Wisynco Group shed 55 cents to end at $15.40 with 244,402 stock units changing hands.
In the preference segment, Eppley 7.50% preference share surged $1.50 to $11 after exchanging 210 units.

JSE main Market pierces resistance

The main market finally pierced the resistance point around the 460,000 points level at the close of trading, with the All Jamaican Composite Index spiking a strong 5,539.89 points to end trading at 461,772.99, the first close above this point since March 10 last year after 29 stocks recorded gains at the close of market activity on Thursday, but ii it sustainable in the short run?
Securities trading surged to 53 from 48 on Wednesday, with 29 rising, 18 declining and six ending unchanged. At the close, the JSE Main Index advanced 3,640.24 points to end at 427,170.49 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.76 points to 105.74.
The PE Ratio, which measures an appropriate relative value of each stock, on Thursday averages 16.9 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings forecast.
A total of 10,251,097 shares traded for $190,490,762 versus 11,255,918 units at $208,802,786 on Wednesday. Scotia Group led trading with 20 percent of the volume after exchanging 2.04 million shares followed by Wigton Windfarm with 13.3 percent for 1.36 million units, Transjamaican Highway 11.2 percent, with 1.14 million units and Sygnus Credit Investments 11.1 percent with 1.10 million units changing hands.
Trading averaged 193,417 units at $3,594,165, compared to 234,498 shares at $4,350,058 on Wednesday. Trading month to date averages 231,890 units at $4,146,046, in contrast to 237,958 units at $4,233,099 on Wednesday. May closed with an average of 439,937 units at $4,698,961.

Scotia Group shed $1 in ending at $40 after an exchange of 2,042,868 shares, Seprod shed 95 cents to close at $74 with 17,290 units changing hands, Stanley Motta rose 45 cents to $6.45 with 100 stock units crossing the market, Sygnus Credit Investments climbed 30 cents to $15.30 in exchanging 1,103,967 shares and Wisynco Group gained 60 cents to close at $15.95 with a transfer of 33,016 stock units.
In the preference segment, 138 Student Living Preference share shed $1.90 to end at $6 after 200 shares crossed the market, Eppley 8.25% rose 97 cents to $7.93 in trading 1,240 units and JMMB Group 7.25% gained 31 cents to end at $2.31 with 132 stocks changing hands.

Fall in JSE Main Market on Wednesday

Market activity ended on Wednesday, with the market declining after the All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 6,167 points to 462,400 points after a few minutes of the market’s opening, with the volume of shares traded falling 11 percent and the values rising 26 percent compared to Tuesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 1,444.91 points to finish at 456,233.10, the JSE Main Index shed 1,246.35 points to end at 423,530.25 and the JSE Financial Index slipped 0.50 points to 104.98.
Trading ended with 48 securities down from 50 on Tuesday, with 19 stocks rising, 20 declining and nine remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, a measure that determines an appropriate relative value of each stock, averages 16.5 based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 earnings forecast.
The market closed with 11,255,918 shares trading for $208,802,786 versus 12,597,611 units at $165,913,276 on Tuesday. Wigton Windfarm led treading with 16 percent of total volume for an exchange of 1.80 million shares followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 13.9 percent for 1.57 million units, Transjamaican Highway ended with 13.6 percent after trading 1.53 million units and Carreras accounted for 9.3 percent, with1.08 million units.

Trading continued on Tuesday where it left off Monday, resulting in a second day with 50 securities, changing hands and ended with 20 stocks rising, 19 declining and 11 remaining unchanged, resulting in a rise in the market after more stocks rose than declined, with an exchange of 75 percent more shares valued 33 percent higher than on Monday, at the close of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
At the close of trading, the All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 678.47 points to finish at 457,678.01, just a few thousand points away from resistance around the 460,000 mark. The JSE Main Index rose 718.60 points to end at 424,776.60 and the JSE Financial Index popped 0.30 points to 105.48.

JSE Main Market fails to hold early gains

Market activity on Friday led to a fall in the value of stocks after an exchange of 152 percent more shares valued 99 percent higher than on Thursday as advancing stocks just edged out those declining at the close of trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 1,636.66 points to 456,395.73 after it hit 459,788.11 points at the market’s opening, the highest it had been since early March last year. The JSE Main Index fell 1,361.86 points to end at 456,395.73 and the JSE Financial Index slipped 0.7 points to settle at 105.83.
Overall, 45 securities traded down from 48 on Thursday, as 18 stocks gained, 17 declined and 10 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, a measure that determines an appropriate relative value of each stock, averages 16.2 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 21,218,791 shares trading for $209,043,560 versus 8,415,642 units at $105,241,816 on Thursday. Carreras controlled 48.2 percent of total volume, with 10.24 million shares, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 24.5 percent for 5.19 million units and Sagicor Select Financial Fund 7.3 percent, with 1.55 million units changing hands.

Main market stocks face major resistance

Main Market indices spiked on Thursday on reduced trading to close at the highest level since March 11 last year, with the All Jamaican Composite Index rocketed up 6,361.57 points to 458,032.39 and bettering the March 11 close of 556,092.64, still below the previous day’s 460,418.78 points close.

The parallel black lines form a channel for the JSE All jamaica Composite Index with the index now touching the top line. (Resistance).

The JSE Main Index spiked 5,470.02 points 425,630.09, just ahead of March 10, 2020, close, but below that of March 9 at 436,435.40 and the JSE Financial Index rose 1.42 points to settle at 105.90. The market is trading right up on the upper level of resistance of an upward sloping channel and could face major challenges in breaking through, in the short term.
A total of 48 securities traded against 47 on Wednesday, with 24 stocks rising, 14 declining and 10 closing unchanged. The PE Ratio, a measure that determines an appropriate relative value of each stock, averages 16.3 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with the volume and value traded declining 30 percent and 75 percent, respectively compared to Wednesday as 8,415,642 shares changed hands for $105,241,816 versus 12,077,813 units at $416,350,090 on Wednesday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 32.6 percent of total volume for 2.74 million shares, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 19.3 percent for 1.63 million units and Pulse Investments with 9.1 percent after 768,244 units changed hands.
Trading averaged 175,326 units at $2,192,538, compared to 256,975 shares at $8,858,513 on Wednesday. Trading month to date averages 193,705 units at $4,990,781, in contrast to 202,991 units at $6,404,631 on Wednesday. May closed with an average of 439,937 units at $4,698,961.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading has 14 stocks ending with bids higher than their last selling prices and five with lower offers.
At the close, Berger Paints dived $2.26 to $13.79 in an exchange of 4,220 shares, Caribbean Cement popped $4.29 to $90 after a transfer of 5,060 stock units, Eppley spiked $4.25 higher at $36.25 with 2 units changing hands. Grace Kennedy shed 47 cents to end at $89.45 in trading 19,101 stock units, Guardian Holdings climbed $15 to close at $760 after clearing the market with 70,560 shares. Proven Investments climbed $1.49 to $37 with a transfer of 31,764 stocks. Sagicor Group rallied 75 cents to $52.75 in trading 19,901 shares. Sagicor Real Estate Fund hammered out a 64 cents gain to end at $8.99 with 435 shares changing hands. Seprod rose $1.02 to $74.02 in switching ownership of 9,931 units, Supreme Ventures lost 45 cents in ending at $19.55 with 8,939 stocks crossing the exchange. Sygnus Credit Investments gained 30 cents to settle at $15.30 in trading 25,434 stock units, Victoria Mutual Investments slipped 39 cents to $6.11 in the transfer of 185,406 shares and Wisynco Group popped 60 cents to $15.80 with the swapping of 130,777 stocks.
In the preference segment, Eppley 7.5% preference share spiked $2.31 to close at 52 weeks’ high of $9.50, trading 100 units and JMMB Group 7.15% – 2028 gained 43 cents ending at $3.25 with 59,930 stocks crossing the exchange.

Main Market trading pops Wednesday

A mere 13 stocks recorded gains at the close of trading on Wednesday after investors drove down the prices of 23 stocks and left 11 unchanged, with 47 securities changing hands compared to 48 on Tuesday, with market activity resulted in the number of shares traded popping 68 percent and the value spiking 117 percent higher than on Tuesday on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
The All Jamaican Composite Index declined 994.79 points to 451,670.82, the JSE Main Index lost 199.45 points to end at 420,160.07 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.29 points to settle at 104.48.
The PE Ratio, a measure that determines an appropriate relative value of each stock, averages 16.2 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
At the close, 12,077,813 shares traded for $416,350,090 versus 7,206,318 units at $192,089,830 on Tuesday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 20.6 percent of total volume after an exchange of 2.49 million shares followed by NCB Financial Group with 14.9 percent from 1.80 million units, Pulse Investments with 13.5 percent after trading 1.64 million units, Sagicor Select Financial Fund accounted for 12.2 percent for 1.48 million units and Mayberry Investments traded 8.9 percent with 1.08 million units.

Market activity ended on Tuesday with the market declining, as more stocks declined than rose, with an exchange of 69 percent fewer shares valued 32 percent less than Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index shed 950.05 points to 452,665.61, the JSE Main Index declined 1,739.04 points to end at 4420,359.52 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.33 points to settle at 104.19.
A total of 48 securities traded, up from 45 on Monday, with 15 stocks rising, 22 declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.2 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 7,206,318 shares trading for $192,089,830 versus 23,167,260 units at $283,034,981 on Monday. Transjamaican Highway led trading with 31.9 percent of total volume for an exchange of 2.30 million shares, followed by NCB Financial Group with 11.4 percent for 821,848 units and Pulse Investments with 11.3 percent for 814,035 units.

Sterling dominates Main Market trading

Sterling Investments accounted for 50 percent of the total volume of shares trading on Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, after the overall trading saw an 81 percent drop in volume compared to Friday and a 53 percent fall in the value of stock changing hands.
The All Jamaican Composite Index shed 760.15 points to 453,615.66, the JSE Main Index gained 32.01 points to end at 422,098.56 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.22 points to settle at 104.52.
Trading ended with 45 securities compared to 49 on Friday, with 16 stocks rising, 23 declining and six remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio ended with an average of 16.1 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 23,167,260 shares trading for $283,034,981 versus 119,750,700 units at $599,497,233 on Friday. Sterling Investments led trading with 50 percent of total volume after trading 11.58 million shares followed by Sagicor Group 12.2 percent with 2.84 million units, Pulse Investments controlled 11.4 percent, with 2.63 million units, Transjamaican Highway took 6.3 percent of the trade with 1.45 million units and Wigton Windfarm took 5.2 percent for an exchange of 1.20 million units.
Trading averaged 514,828 units on Monday at $6,289,666, compared to 2,443,892 shares at $12,234,637 on Friday. Trading month to date averages 439,937units at $4,698,961, in contrast to 436,367 units at $4,623,132 on Friday. April closed with an average of 234,200 units at $1,772,561.
