JSE main market in sharp drop – Thursday

Carreras traded most shares on Thursday, with more than 7M units changing hands.

Fresh from vested interest hiking some prices at the close of the previous month the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed the first day of March with a big fall as prices returned to more normal levels on Thursday.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index dived sharply by 3,876.54 points to 317,331.11 and the JSE Index sank 3,531.97 points to end at 289,124.52.
Trading on Thursday closed 28 securities changing hands with 9 advancing, 13 declining and 5 trading firm, in the main and US dollar markets.
The securities with the largest price changes include, Berger Paints rising $1.35 to $21.35, Caribbean Cement falling $2.99 to $33.01, Jamaica Producers rising $1.90 to $17, JMMB Group that dropped by $1.99 to $24.01, Sagicor Group with a fall of 99 cents to $36.51 and Salada Foods with a decline of $1 to $10.50.
Main market activity ended with 22,773,292 units valued at $377,866,606 compared to 5,402,156 units valued at$66,110,510 on Thursday. Carreras accounted for 7,029,473 units changing hands, or 30.87 percent of the total volume traded, followed by Ciboney Group with 4,963,048 units representing 21.79 percent of the market volume and JMMB Group with 4,190,962 units or 18.40 percent of units traded and Grace Kennedy with 4,047,260 shares.
Trading results in an average of 875,896 shares valued at $14,533,331 for each security traded, in contrast to 200,080 shares valued at $2,448,537 on Wednesday. In contrast, February closed with average of 213,336 units valued at $3,392,475 for each security traded.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading shows 9 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with lower offers.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with Margaritaville concluded trading added 1 cent and settled at 20 US cents with 2,322 units and Sterling Investments fell 3 cents and ended at closed a 52 weeks’ low of 9 US cents with 1,000 shares. Overall, trading closed with just 3,322 shares with a value of US$554 as the market index slipped 0.94 points to 171.61.

JSE main market in steady trading

Trading on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange remained steady at the close on Thursday with JSE All Jamaican Composite Index increased by a mere 0.28 points to 320,034.84 and the JSE Index advanced by just 0.25 points to 291,587.92.
Trading on Thursday closed with as 9 securities advancing, 9 declining and 13 trading firm for the main and US dollar markets.
The securities with the largest price changes include, Caribbean Cement with a fall of $3 to $32, Jamaica Broilers fell 93 cents to $18.07, Salada Foods traded $1 down to $11 and Sterling Investments rose by 95 cents to higher to $13.
Main market activity ended with 2,690,310 shares valued at $52,093,635 in contrast to 20,208,278 shares valued at $255,279,222 on Wednesday. JMMB Group accounted for 971,565 units and 36.11 percent of total volume traded.
Trading results in an average of 92,769 shares valued at $1,796,332 for each security traded, in contrast to 777,241 shares valued at $9,818,432 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 207,617 units valued at $3,223,626 and previously, 215,943 units valued at $3,334,894. In contrast, January closed with average of 349,084 units at an average of $5,801,440 for each security traded.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading shows 6 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with lower offers.
Traded in the US dollar market ended with Margaritaville closed at 19 US cents and with 220 shares and Proven Investments traded 109,220 shares at 21.99 US cents. Total trading in the US market came to 109,220 units with a value of US$23,719 as the market index fell by 1.63 points to 167.15.

JSE main market in sharp fall – Tuesday

Scotia Group dropped $3.50 to be a major factor for the market fall.

Trading on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended on Tuesday with JSE All Jamaican Composite Index fell by 2,849.06 points to 314,902.05 and the JSE Index declined by 2,595.81 points to 286,911.39.
Main and US market activities ended with moderate trading levels leading to prices of 14 stocks falling, 6 rising and 9 trading firm as 29 securities traded, versus 26 on Monday, including 1 from the US market.
Main market activity ended with 1,619,946 shares valued at a mere $24,684,399 changing hands, in contrast to 2,142,032 shares valued at a mere $25,490,496 trading on Monday.
The US market closed with Proven Investments exchanging 436,300 ordinary shares, at 22.95 US cents, with a value of US$98,424 and leading to the JSE US Equities Index remaining unchanged at 174.10.
Market activity ended with an average of 57,855 shares valued at $$881,586, in contrast to 76,501 shares valued at $910,375 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 138,250 units valued at $2,267,631 and previously, 167,869 units valued at $2,778,279 January closed with average of 239,900 units valued at $5,158,193 for each security traded.

Big 4,523 points surge in JSE index

In trading on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, the All Jamaican Composite Index jumped sharply by 4,523.22 points to 309,489.06 and the JSE Index surged 4,121.16 points to close at 281,979.52.
Trading ended with 21 securities changing hands, of which 9 advanced, 4 declined and 8 traded firm Thursday.
Trading returned to more normal levels, with 18,689,826 units valued at $192,233,164 trading compared to 171,582,338 units valued at $1,664,149,762 from 21 securities on Thursday. Shares in Jamaica Stock Exchange, accounted for 15 million units of the volume traded on Friday.
An average of 889,992 units traded for an average of $9,153,960 on Friday, in contrast to an average of 8,170,588 units for an average of $79,245,227 on Thursday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 765,616 units valued at $10,279,783 and previously, 758,238 units valued at $10,351,426. In contrast, November closed with average of 349,084 units at an average of $5,801,440 for each security traded.

Apart from the big trade in JSE shares the other major movers at the close of the market on Friday are, Berger Paints with a rise of $1.60, NCB Financial Group rising $1.49 and PanJam Investment jumped $2.

Scotia drops $6.95 & NCB $10.19 – Friday

Stocks advancing on the Jamaica Stock Exchange were edged out 11 declining stocks 10 on Friday, but that did not prevent the All Jamaica Composite Index tumbling by a record 10,134.09 points as investors pushed down the prices of Scotia Group to $45.05 within 2 minutes of the close and NCB Financial to $80.06.
The sharp fall in the market on Friday does not appear to be an indication that the upward climb in the market has ended. The 6 to 2 positive Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator suggests that the majority of prices could be rising on Monday.
At the close of market activity, Berger Paints gained of 50 cents, and closed at $11.50 with 28,241 shares, Cable and Wireless closed at $1.10, after falling 9 cents with 28,080 stock units changing hands, Caribbean Cement exchanged 7,900 units at $27.50, Carreras lost 3 cents and closed at $107.97 with 62,828 shares, Ciboney Group fell 3 cents trading 388,884 stock units at 17 cents, Grace Kennedy climbed $1.50 and ended at $43.50 with 6,005 units. Jamaica Broilers gained 25 cents, closing at $16 with 347,061 shares, Jamaica Producers traded $1 higher to $16 with 58,252 stock units, Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 16 cents to close at $6.35 with 536 units, JMMB Group with a loss of 20 cents, closed at $21 exchanging 147,249 shares. Scotia Group drops $2

Scotia Group price dropped as nine months results were soft.

Trading picked up on Thursday with value of trading increasing sharply over the low level on Wednesday, but the most prominent stock in the last two weeks, Scotia Group fell in response to lower than expected profits leading to a fall in the market indices.
The number of securities trading ended at 23 compared to 28 on Wednesday but the volume traded rose well ahead of Wednesday’s level at 6,273,419 units versus 2,295,944 units.
At the close of the market the volume of stocks changing hands and prices they last traded at, are Berger Paints exchanging 64,088 shares at $11, Cable and Wireless rising 9 cents, to $1.15 with 151,475 units, Caribbean Cement closing at $27.50 and losing 50 cents with 181,572 shares, Carreras closed at $108 with 20,739 stock units, Grace Kennedy with a loss of 5 cents, to end at $42 trading 1,480,399 shares. Jamaica Broilers dropped $1.05 to $15.75 with 696,244 shares, with investors reacting negatively to lower profit in the first quarter to July, with Net Profit from continuing operations coming in at $212.6 million versus $401.3 million. Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 2 cents to close at $6.51 with 288,079 shares, followed by JMMB Group that closed at $21.20, with a loss of 30 cents in exchanging 44,432 shares. Kingston Wharves ended with gains of 37 cents at $30.85 with 4,100 units, Mayberry Investments dropped 58 cents to $4.22, with 4,488 units, NCB Financial Group closed 25 cents higher to $90.25 with 44,389 shares, 138 Student Living traded 8,350 units at $4.75. PanJam Investment lost 40 cents to $33.85 with 400 units, Pulse Investments lost 5 cents, closing at $1.70 with 27,523 shares, Radio Jamaica fell by 16 cents, ending at $1.04 with 1,534,960 shares, Sagicor Group traded $1.28 higher to $34.53 with 32,438 stock units, Salada Foods gained 50 cents, ending at $8.50 trading 75,000 shares, Scotia Group closed $2 lower to $52 exchanging 182,331 units, Sterling Investments lost 10 cents to close at $11.90 with 264,322 shares, Supreme Ventures closed at $10.80, losing 20 cents with 5,722 units. Productive Business Solution US ordinary shares traded 6,820 units at 60 US cents, Proven Investments US ordinary shares closed at 23.99 US cents, with gains of 0.99 US cent, in exchanging 300,227 units and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share traded 855,271 units at $2.

 

JSE trading up prices down – Thursday

Scotia Group pushed market down on Thursday.

The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange suffered from declining stocks beating out rising ones by a wide margin, at the close on Thursday, driving the market indices down, in the process.
Scotia Group fell $2 resulting from a weakened profit performance for the nine months to July. The All Jamaica Composite Index declined 1,270.96 points to close at 287,083.45, the JSE Market Index fell by 1,157.99 points to 261,565.51 and the JSE US dollar market index rose 3.27 points to 185.79.
At the close of trading, 21 securities changed hands in the main market with 2 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 7 stocks advancing and 11 declining. Radio Jamaica and Sterling Investments fell to 52 weeks’ lows at the close.
Main market trading ended with 5,966,372 units valued at $106,313,754 changing hands compared to 2,294,338 units valued at $32,081,246 at the close on Wednesday. The US dollar market accounted for 307,047 units valued at US$75,251 bringing the total of all trades to J$116,171,637.

JSE trading dropped on Wednesday

Trading levels dropped sharply on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 2 to 1 ratio to declining stocks on Wednesday but advancing stocks beat out declining ones more than 2 to 1.
Recent headliner Scotia Group traded up to $54 ahead of the results that were released after trading closed showing a reduction in profits for the third quarter.
At the close of the market, the volume of stocks changing hands and prices they last traded at are, Barita Investments closing at $9 with 100 units trading, Berger Paints ending with a loss of 50 cents, exchanging 25,657 shares to at $11, Cable and Wireless with a gain of 5 cents to $1.10 with 17,242 stock units. Carreras closed at $108 with 21,840 shares, Grace Kennedy ended at $42.05, gaining 5 cents with 21,302 shares. Jamaica Broilers shed 70 cents to $16.80, with 564,868 stock units, Jamaica Producers traded 25 cents higher to $15 with 124,041 shares, Jamaica Stock Exchange exchanged 126,810 shares at $6.49, while JMMB Group closed at $21.50, with gains of 50 cents trading 87,322 stock units. Kingston Properties closed at $7 with 1,325 shares, Kingston Wharves ended with a loss of 2 cents, at $30.48 with 700 units, Mayberry Investments closed at $4.80, gaining 30 cents with 168,080 shares, NCB Financial Group surged $2.45 to $90 with 9,494 units, 1834 Investments traded 230,583 units at $4.75. Scotia drops $5 to $55

Scotia Group drops $5 on the JSE on Monday.

Stocks most fell at the close of trading on main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday but with declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones after Scotia Group closed down $5 to $55 ahead of third quarter results this week.
The fall contributed by Scotia Group based on an average traded price of $55.52 was offset by average gains in the prices of JMMB Group and NCB Financial Group.

Dominant Jamaica Producers

Jamaica Producers trades 1,097,168 shares at $15.

Jamaica Producers continues to trade in large quantities at a very high valuation that is well above the market’s average, suggesting that investors expect high growth in profits going forward. Sterling Investment was the second largest trade with the price falling back on Friday.
At the close of market activity, the last price securities traded at and the volumes changing hands are, Barita Investments climbing $1 higher to $9 with 25,000 shares, Berger Paints rising 5 cents to close at $12.15 with 73,884 shares, as investors’ interest gains momentum and ignoring the buyout offer of $10.88 per share by the Ansa McAl Group. Following the annual General Meeting of Cable and Wireless the stock price climbed 17 cents, closing at $1.20 with 952,364 shares exchanged.
