Market activity picked up on Tuesday

JSE-stks1Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with moderate gains in the indices on Tuesday with trading volumes being light. Market activities picked up from the 33 securities that traded on Monday to close with 43 changing hands in all market segments of which 22 securities in the combined markets gained and 14 declined.
Eight stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 4,319,632 units valued at $43,703,774 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 147.39 points to 159,472.83 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 164.72 points to end at 177,176.18 and the JSE combined index rose 175.31 points to close at 170,513.05.

Carreras traded 86,825 shares at $62.50, Gleaner traded 10,560 units with a loss of 7 cents at $2.60, Grace Kennedy jumped $1.49 and closed at $83.49, with 13,200 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers rose by 49 cents and closed at 52 weeks’ high of $14 with 561,626 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers lost $2 to end at $29 with 15,812 shares changing hands, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 3 cents to close at $19.70 while trading 199,677 shares, JMMB Group traded 112,847 units to end with a rise of 28 cents at $11. Kingston Properties traded 79,853 shares but lost 24 cents to end at $6.80, Kingston Wharves traded 11,310 units to close with a fall of 1 cent at $11.14, Margaritaville Turks traded 27,000 shares at 11.05 US cents with a rise of 0.05 cents. Sagicor Group fell by 5 cents to close at $23 with 189,997 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 74,254 shares but the price rose 1 cent to $11.60, Scotia Group had 460,994 shares changing hands to close with a loss of $1.50 at $30.50, Seprod had 10,000 units changing hands at $20, for a rise of $1. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $6.49 to record a gain of $1.49 with 223,971 units changing hands, the stock traded at an all-time high of $6.90 during the day. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 184,364 units at 22 US cents, JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 152,692 units at $2.25 after rising 15 cents and Proven Investments preference share traded 77,800 units at $5.

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with strong gains in the indices on Monday as Grace Kennedy traded 1.9 million units carrying a value of $160 million. The other big trade was in National Commercial Bank shares with over 2 million units changing hands with a value of $88.6 million.
Market activities slowed with only 33 securities changing hands in all market segments compared to recent levels around 40 or more per day for January. At the close of trading session, the combined index added 2,291 points with 13 securities in the combined markets gaining and 16 declining.
Three stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday highs as 8,596,958 units valued at $285,106,122 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $ 5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 2,618.88 points to 159,325.44 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 2,926.75 points to end at 177,011.46 and the JSE combined index rose 2,290.59 points to close at 170,337.74.

Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday high as 17,493,274 units valued at $112,767,164 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,058,983 units changed hands, valued at $6,002,466.

Moderate changes in JSE morning session

There has been moderate movement in the market indices in the morning session with stock prices trading close to yesterday’s close. JSE intra 20-01-16Of note is that AMG Packaging traded 806 units at a new all-time high of $12 and Supreme Ventures traded at new 52 weeks’ high of $5.50.
After an hour of trading, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 16.66 points to 173,027.55 the JSE Market Index gained 14.90 points to 155,760.59 the JSE combined index rose 8.83 points to 167,178.91 and the junior market index slipped by 0.58 points to 2,249.07. In trading, 28 securities were active and accounted for 3,774,288 units changed hands with 8 stocks rising and 7 falling.
Other trades of note are Cable & Wireless with 764,689 at $1.50, Grace Kennedy with 257,421 valued at $21.3 million trading at $84, Pan Jamaican Investment with 210,941 units valued at $19.8 million while trading at $94.05 and Scotia Group with 1,155,450 shares at $30.42 valued at $35 million.

Scotia pushes JSE to 4,000 points gain

The continued seesaw movement in the price of Scotia Group continued in the morning session with the stock trading at $34.99, JSE intra 18-01-16helping to push the main stock market indices up between 3,100 to just under 4,000 points. Scotia closed trading on Friday with the last trade ended at $30.09.
Supreme Ventures also rose with a gain of 35 cents to trade at $5.05, in the junior market Honey Bun traded at a new high of $7.60 with 56,000 units but, Lasco Financial fell back by 46 cents to $4.06 with 109,645 shares.
After 75 minutes of trading, the all Jamaica Composite Index jumped by 3,996.70 points to 177,597.82 the JSE Market Index climbed 3,576.27 points to 159,850.11 the JSE combined index gained 3,139.92 points to 170,963.97 and the junior market index fell 25.71 points to 2,240.63
In trading 31 securities were active and accounted for 1,469,912 units that changed hands with 16 stocks rising and 9 falling.

Caribbean Cement traded more orderly on Friday, than it did on Thursday when there were wild price swings and closed today with an increase of $2 to $24 with 4,884 shares trading. Carreras fell 5 cents to end at $60 with 60,210 units changing hands, Gleaner Company traded 7,400 shares to gain 30 cents to close at $2.70, Grace Kennedy closed at $80.21, with 20,240 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers fell $1.51 to close at $11.50 with 256,650 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers had 3,570 shares trading as the price rose by 10 cents to $32.30, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained $1 and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $20 while trading 200,000 shares, JMMB Group traded 83,100 units to end with a loss of 18 cents at $11.77. Kingston Wharves traded 8,341 units to close at $11.15, Margaritaville Turks came into its own after reporting profits of US$518,134 in the six months to November last year versus $279,000 in 2014. The stock traded 1,128,920 units at 10.5 US cents each. Mayberry Investments traded 327,979 shares and lost 2 cents to end at $4.70, National Commercial Bank ended with a loss of 99 cents at $40.51 with 257,266 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investments fell 9 cents to close at $94.06 with 8,528 shares trading. 138 Student Living Jamaica traded 985 shares at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.10, after rising by 35 cents, Radio Jamaica gained 40 cents in trading 32,400 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $6. Sagicor Group fell 65 cents to close at $22.80 with 365,894 units changing hands, Scotia Group dropped $4.90 with 346,798 shares changing hands to close at $30.09, Scotia Investments recovered the $3.10 it lost on Thursday to close at $29.90 after 18,469 units traded. Seprod dropped $2.49 with 83,600 shares trading and closed at $18.51, Supreme Ventures gained 4 cents to end at $4.70 with 70,820 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 40,730 units at 22 US cents, down from 22.99 US cents.
Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference share traded for the first time in months, with 33,000 units valued at $39,633,000 changing hands to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $1,201, for an increase of $76 and Proven Investments 8% preference shares traded 100,000 units at $5.
