Main Market’s weak start to 2023

The strong rally in the last two weeks of December carried over into the new year on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Tuesday, but at a sedate level following 95 percent less the stocks trading with 96 percent less value than on Friday, after trading in 62 securities compared to 60 on Friday, with 15 rising, 30 declining and 17 ending unchanged.
A total of 8,252,097 shares were exchanged for $67,129,016 versus 182,913,713 units with a value of  $1,549,169,032 on Friday.
Trading averages 133,098 units at $1,082,726, compared to 3,048,562 shares at $25,819,484 on Friday. December closed with an average of 604,110 units at $4,072,598.
Transjamaican Highway was the lead trade, with 4.08 million shares for 49.4 percent of total volume followed by Pulse Investments with 986,612 units for 12 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Group with 569,539 units for 6.9 percent market share.
The All Jamaican Composite Index rallied 1,269.06 points to 404,349.42, the JSE Main Index climbed 342.34 points to 356,238.98 and the JSE Financial Index rose 0.04 points to settle at 85.92.

Jamaica Producers fell 98 cents to end at $21.92 while exchanging 2,552 stock units, JMMB Group ost $1.50 to close at $32.50 in trading 39,397 stocks, Kingston Properties dipped 75 cents to $7.75 in trading 7,741 stock units. Massy Holdings declined 49 cents to $79.50 with 2,324 shares crossing the market, Mayberry Investments shed $1.35 in closing at $8.70, with 47,687 units changing hands, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy dropped $6 to end at $75 after an exchange of 498 stocks. Palace Amusement rose $100 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $1599 as investors exchanged 656 units, Portland JSX declined 45 cents in ending at $10.55 after an exchange of 10 stocks, Sagicor Group dropped $4 to end at $55 with 569,539 shares crossing the market. Sagicor Real Estate Fund rallied $1.03 in closing at 52 weeks’ high of $9.53 with investors transferring 25,279 stock units, Seprod shed $8 to close at $70 with 5,354 shares clearing the market, Stanley Motta dipped $1.28 to end at $4.02 in switching ownership of 118,860 stocks. Sterling Investments gained 49 cents in ending at $3.44 after 54,045 stock units changed hands, Supreme Ventures fell $2.50 to $27.50 with the swapping of 26,450 units, Sygnus Real Estate Finance fell 48 cents ending at $9.52 trading 5,106 stock units and Wisynco Group declined 49 cents to $17.50 with a transfer of 128,774 units.

JSE USD Market raps up 2022 with 19.7% rise

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market ended on Friday and for 2022, with the market gaining 19.7 percent for the year after the JSE US Denominated Equities Index closed 2.39 points higher on Friday to end at 233.97, following a 54 percent dip in the volume of stocks changing hands after 88 percent less funds entered the market compared with Thursday, resulting in nine securities traded, compared to eight on Thursday with five rising, one declining and three ending unchanged.
Overall, 350,984 shares were traded for US$5,053 compared to 758,093 units at US$42,021 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 38,998 units at US$561, 94,762 shares at US$5,253 on Thursday, with month to date average of 39,679 shares at US$1,492 compared with 39,721 units at US$1,550 on the previous day. November ended with an average of 33,854 units for US$3,351.

Proven Investments shed 0.3 cents to end at 19 US cents in switching owners of 7,837 stocks, Sterling Investments rose 0.13 of a cent after ending at 2.13 US cents with the swapping of 183 stock units, Transjamaican Highway gained 0.08 of a cent in ending at 0.98 of one US cent, with 342,741 stocks crossing the market.

Main Market rallies but ends 2022 down

Trading picked up sharply on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Friday to close out the year on a positive note, with the volume of stocks traded surging 1,574 percent as the value jumped 1,552 percent over trading levels on Thursday and helping the market to put in one of the most bullish two days for the year, but that could not prevent the market from falling lower than it opened the year. 
At the close, 60 securities traded compared to 58 on Thursday, with 28 rising, 16 declining and 16 ending unchanged and resulting in an exchange of 182,913,713 shares valued at $1,549,169,032 versus 10,927,858 units at $93,761,610 on Thursday, with Kingston Properties chipping in with 136 million shares carrying a value of $1.05 billion.
The All Jamaican Composite Index popped 8,864.59 points to settle at 403,080.36, to add 18,791 points in just two days but ended the year down 8 percent, the JSE Main Index popped 4,672.83 points to 355,896.64, with gains of 10,764 point over the past two days and a 10.2 percent fall for the year, while  the JSE Financial Index rallied 0.92 points to settle at 85.88 and is down 12.4 percent for the year.
Trading averaged 3,048,562 shares at $25,819,484, up from 188,411 units at $1,615,711 on Thursday and month to date, an average of 604,110 units at $4,071,008, compared with  467,038 stocks at $2,851,468 on the previous day. November closed with an average of 202,406 units at $1,736,493.
Kingston Properties led trading with 136.04 million shares for 74.4 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 33.49 million units for 18.3 percent of the day’s trade. Barita Investments ended trading with 2.56 million units for 1.4 percent of the market trade, Radio Jamaica with 2.02 million units for 1.1 percent share of the market, Transjamaican Highway with 1.44 million units for 0.8 percent of trading and Sagicor Group with 1.17 million units for 0.6 percent market share.

Kingston Wharves climbed $3.66 to close at $3, with 161,557 units changing hands, Mayberry Investments popped $1.21 to close at $10.05 with investors exchanging 236,867 stocks, Mayberry Jamaican Equities dipped 47 cents in closing at $13.51 as 30,300 stock units passed through the market. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy lost $2 to end at $81 after trading 164 units, Palace Amusement advanced $2 to $1499 in trading 1,198 stock units, Portland JSX rallied 90 cents to $11 as investors exchanged 12,027 stocks. Proven Investments rose 85 cents to $27 and closed with 511 shares changing hands, Radio Jamaica gained 50 cents in ending at $2.60 in an exchange of 2,016,480 units, Sagicor Group increased $6 in closing at $59 after a transfer of 1,170,151 stock units. Sagicor Real Estate Fund rose 60 cents to end at $8.50, with 230,043 stocks crossing the market, Seprod advanced $8 to close at $78 with a transfer of 217,964 shares, Stanley Motta gained $1.29 in ending at $5.30 after trading 142,927 shares and Wisynco Group rose 49 cents to close at $17.99 in switching ownership of 189,234 stock units.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market suffered a sharp reversal of recent gains with the market index diving 26.46 points to close at 231.58 after Productive Business Solutions had a massive decline in price on Thursday, after the volume of stocks changing hands declining 22 percent with a 187 percent greater value than on Wednesday, resulting in trading in eight securities, similar to the number traded on Wednesday and ended with two rising, four declining and two ending unchanged.
Overall, 758,093 shares were traded for US$42,021 compared with 966,219 units at US$14,629 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 94,762 units at US$5,253 versus 120,777 shares at US$1,829 on Wednesday. Trading month to date average 39,721 shares at US$1,550 versus 36,460 units at US$1,331 on the previous day. November ended with an average of 33,854 units for US$3,351.

JSE All Jamaica jumps 9,926 points

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market closed sharply higher on Thursday, resulting in the All Jamaican Composite Index surging 9,926.38 points to  394,215.77, the JSE Main Index jumping 6,090.77 points higher to 351,223.81 and the JSE Financial Index climbed 2.16 points to settle at 84.96, as the volume of stocks traded declined 51 percent with a 25 percent higher value than on Wednesday, with 58 securities trading compared to 59 on Wednesday, with 26 rising, 15 declining and 17 ending unchanged.
A total of 10,927,858 shares were exchanged for $93,711,234 versus 22,138,197 units at $73,392,960 on Wednesday.
Trading averages 188,411 shares at $1,615,711 compared with 375,224 shares at $1,243,948 Wednesday.
Trading month to date averages 467,038 units at $2,851,468 compared with 483,007 units at $2,922,292 on the previous day. November closed with an average of 202,406 units at $1,736,493.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 6.44 million shares for 59 percent of total volume, Transjamaican Highway followed with 1.07 million units for 9.8 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Real Estate Fund with 905,055 units for 8.3 percent of market share.

Investors pulled back funds entering the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market ended on Wednesday, as the volume of stocks traded rose 4 percent, with a 52 percent drop in the value of stocks compared to Friday, with trading ended with an exchange of 59 securities compared to 53 on Friday, with prices of 17 rising, 26 declining and 16 ending unchanged.
A total of 22,138,197 shares were traded for $73,392,960 compared with 21,211,534 units at $157,346,195 last Friday.
Trading averages 375,224 units at $1,243,948, versus 400,218 shares at $2,968,796 on Friday and month to date, an average of 483,007 units at $2,922,292, compared to 489,680 units at $3,026,20 on the previous trading day. November closed with an average of 202,406 units at $1,736,493.

Trading picked up on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market ended on Wednesday, following the long Christmas holiday break and closed with the volume of stocks changing hands rising 10,805 percent valued 1,994 percent more than on last week Friday and resulted in the trading of eight securities, similar to that on Friday and closed with four rising, three declining and one ending unchanged.
The JSE US Denominated Equities Index gained 5.46 points to end at 258.04.
A total of 966,219 shares were traded for US$14,629 compared with 8,860 units at US$699 on Thursday. Trading averaged 120,777 shares at US$1,829 versus 1,108 units at US$87 last Friday, with the month to date average of 36,460 units at US$1,331 compared to 31,148 shares at US$1,300 on the previous trading day. Trading plunged on the Jamaica Stock Exchange US dollar market ended on Friday, with the volume of stocks changing hands declining 88 percent valued 97 percent lower than on Thursday and resulted in the trading of eight securities, compared to 11 on Thursday with two rising, five declining and one ending unchanged.
Only 8,860 shares were traded for a mere US$699 compared to 73,385  units at US$24,703 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 1,108 units at US$87 versus 6,671 shares at US$2,246 on Thursday, with the month to date average of 31,148 shares at US$1,300 compared with 33,168 units at US$1,381 on the previous day. November ended with an average of 33,854 units for US$3,351.

Main Market Christmas bounce

Trading bounced on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market ended on Friday, with the volume of stocks traded rising 180 percent with a 40 percent higher value than Thursday, following trading in 53 securities down from 58 on Thursday, with prices of 21 rising, ten declining and 22 ending unchanged.
A total of 21,211,534 shares were traded for $157,346,195 compared to 7,586,543 units at $112,182,540 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 400,218 units at $2,968,796, versus 130,802 shares at $1,934,182 on Thursday. Trading month to date, averaged 489,680 units at $3,026,197, compared with 494,948 units at $3,029,578 on the previous day. Trading in November closed with an average of 202,406 units at $1,736,493.
Wigton Windfarm was the lead trade with 13.94 million shares for 65.7 percent of total volume followed by PanJam Investment with 1.72 million units for 8.1 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.68 million units for 7.9 percent of market share.

Trading fell back to more normal levels on Thursday on the Market activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, with an 89 percent drop in volume of stocks traded and an 85 percent fall in value compared with market activity on Wednesday, after trading of 58 securities compared to 59 on Wednesday, with 19 rising, 16 declining and 23 ending unchanged.
A total of 7,586,543 shares were traded for $112,182,540 versus 68,370,391 units at $766,972,565 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 130,802 shares at $1,934,182, versus 1,158,820 units at $12,999,366 on Wednesday and month to date, an average of 494,948 units at $3,029,587, compared with 520,032 units at $3,105,033 on the previous day. November closed with an average of 202,406 units at $1,736,493.
Jamaica Broilers led trading with 2.03 million shares for 26.7 percent of total volume followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 958,565 units for 12.6 percent of the day’s trade and Wigton Windfarm, 888,530 units for 11.7 percent market share. The All Jamaican Composite Index fell 1,195.13 points to 380,984.79, the JSE Main Index rallied 1,526.78 points to 341,994.74 and the JSE Financial Index rose 0.71 points to 82.03.

At the close, Berger Paints dropped $2.72 to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $8.01 while exchanging 2,000 shares, GraceKennedy rose 90 cents to end at $81 with a transfer of 38,131 units, Guardian Holdings climbed $12.56 to $630 with the swapping of 1,253 stocks. Jamaica Broilers fell 95 cents to $29.04 after exchanging 2,027,625 stock units, Mayberry Investments dropped $1.20 in closing at $7.25 after an exchange of 18,192 shares, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy rallied $3 in closing at $83 as investors exchanged 96 stocks. NCB Financial advanced $1.98 to end at $80 with an exchange of 6,908 units, Palace Amusement popped $44.99 to close at $1244.99 with investors transferring 422 stock units, Portland JSX climbed 97 cents in ending at $10.47, with nine shares clearing the market. Proven Investments gained $1.40 to $28.40, with 1,071 units crossing the exchange, Sagicor Group declined 40 cents in closing at $47.60 after trading 252,369 stocks, Scotia Group popped $1.41 to $34.90 after a transfer of 620,050 stock units. Supreme Ventures shed 71 cents in ending at $29.29 with 14,623 units crossing the market and Sygnus Credit Investments gained 96 cents to close at $13 as 5,215 stocks passed through the market.
In the preference segmentJamaica Public Service 9.5% dipped $40 to end at $2960 in switching ownership of two shares.
