The main market indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange made modest gains on Wednesday with the all Jamaica Composite Index rising 216.41 points to 183,669.65. The JSE Market Index climbed 193.50 points to finish at 165,275.10 and the JSE combined index rose 551.77 points to end at 177,742.62 and gained at 12 percent for the year to date.
At the close 2,584,785 units valued at $33,734,659 changed hands, compared to 5,164,481 units valued at $41,188,234 changing hands on Tuesday. The junior market accounted for 718,533 units trading valued at $4,825,236 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 77,761 units, compared to an average for the month to date of 178,931 units. On Tuesday, an average of 157,519 units, compared to an average for the month to date of 280,102.
The market closed with 40 securities trading as the prices of 11 gained while 14 declined in the overall market, including 5 stocks rising and 4 falling, in the junior market.

In market activity, Berger Paints traded 5,000 shares to end at $6, Cable & Wireless closed at 84 cents with 290,565 units trading, Caribbean Cement traded 40,741 shares and lost 40 cents to close at $32.10, Carreras closed at $66 with 820 units changing hands. 1834 Investments traded 26,836 units but lost 3 cents to end at $1.17, Grace Kennedy lost 5 cents and closed trading with 6,685 shares changing hands at $41.90, Jamaica Broilers closed at $14.50 with 419,751 shares switching owners. Jamaica Producers closed with a loss of 4 cents at $8.25 with 890 units trading, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 44 cents and ended at $27.39 while trading 2,323 shares, JMMB Group lost 43 cents in trading 7,580 units to close at $13.22. Kingston Wharves traded 5,328 shares to close at $17, Mayberry Investments ended with 265,471 shares trading at $4, National Commercial Bank traded 14,975 shares to close with a decline of 49 cents at $43, Pan Jamaican Investments rose 45 cents to close at $23 after trading 15,199 shares. Portland JSX traded 1,500 units with the price falling 7 cents to $11.03, Radio Jamaica traded 111,388 units and fell 15 cents to end at $1.40. Sagicor Group had 12,768 shares changing hands and lost 15 cents to close at $22.40, Scotia Group rose 36 cents and closed at $30.51 with 388,287 shares changing hands and Proven Investments traded 245,840 units at 19.75 US cents after rising 0.25 cents.
Declining stocks hold upper hand – Thursday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange made some modest gains on Thursday with trading closed with 44 securities trading as the prices of 12 gained while 14 declined in the overall market, including 4 stocks rising and 4 falling, in the junior market.
At the close 6,736,290 units valued at $26,904,029, changed hands, compared to 4,936,602 units valued at $80,553,639 changing hands on Wednesday. The junior market accounted for 1,753,530 units valued at $7,158,594 of the stocks traded.
At the close, the JSE Market Index rose 155.60 points to end at 166,601.28. The all Jamaica Composite Index close higher by 174.02 points to close at 185,152.77 and the JSE combined index rose 254.44 points, to end at 179,602.60.

Carreras gained 3 cents with 918 shares changing hands at $65.03, trading in 1834 Investments ended with 24,000 shares changing hands to close at $1.24, Grace Kennedy closed with 69,734 shares changing hands at $42 after falling 45 cents, Jamaica Producers ended with 991 shares changing hands to close at $8.40. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 40 cents and ended at $27 while trading 31,435 shares, JMMB Group climbed 54 cents in trading 111,604 units to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $14.55, Kingston Properties lost 12 cents in closing at $9 with 14,000 shares changing hands, Kingston Wharves lost 45 cents in trading 26,495 shares to close at $17.05. Mayberry Investments traded 8,619 shares to close with a loss of 20 cents at $3.50, National Commercial Bank traded 7,764 shares and declined 40 cents to end at $41.60, Pan Jamaican Investments gained 10 cents and closed at $23.50 after trading 7,800 shares. Portland JSX traded 6,435 shares and fell 30 cents to $11. Radio Jamaica lost 5 cents in trading 101,020 shares to close at $1.65, Sagicor Group traded 56,722 shares and rose by 4 cents to end at $23.85, Scotia Group closed at $30.01 with 173,539 shares changing hands. Scotia Investments had 2,000 units changing hands to close at $30, Supreme Ventures closed at $4.80 with 49,928 shares, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share traded 3,426,600 units after falling 9 cents to end at $1.10 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share traded 473,670 units at $2.10.
JSE majors retreat on Tuesday
At the close of the market, prices of 12 securities gained out of a total of 38 trading, while 15 declined in the overall market, including 7 stocks rising and 4 falling, in the junior market.
Caribbean Cement was the star performer with a dive of $4.40 to close at $29.50 during the day and closed with 67,176 shares changing hands while Carreras exchanged 1,349,963 shares at $65 with a loss of 25 cents.
At the close 3,375,381 units valued at $114,125,679, changed hands, compared to the 3,502,355 units valued at $25,804,167 changing hands on Monday. The junior market accounted for 494,666 units valued at $2,264,166 of the stocks traded.
The market index ended with sizable losses, with the JSE Market Index all Jamaica Composite Index dropping 1,595.99 points to close at 179,931.64 and the JSE combined index falling 1,108.42 points, to end at 174,438.21.

Pan Jamaican Investment traded 19,860 shares to close $23.31 after falling 68 cents, 138 Student Living ordinary share traded at $4.80 while with 512,500 shares changing hands, Portland JSX closed at $11 after trading 24,700 shares, Radio Jamaica traded 95,519 shares and lost 9 cents to land at $1.31. Sagicor Group rose 19 cents in trading 602,900 shares to close at $23.51, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 49,223 shares to close with at $10.20, Scotia Group lost $1 and closed at $29 with 40,289 shares changing hands and Supreme Ventures lost 5 cents to close at $4.80 with 14,000 shares
