The Jamaica Stock Exchange is enjoying modest gains in Tuesday morning trading as investors participate in moderate trading on the first trading day of the week. Trading volume and value were up from Friday’s levels as advancing stocks edged out declining ones on the day after the market was closed for a public holiday on Monday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 380.56 points to 186,523.26 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index advanced 340.29 points to 167,826.74, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index rose 518.72 points to close at 180,491.37 and the junior market index rose 19.78 points to 2,419.04.
At 10.45 am, a total of 27 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 659,435 shares changing hands carrying a value of $8,595,191, compared to 346,328 shares changing hands, carrying a value of $3,122,421 on Friday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 24,424 units compared to 15,058 on Friday. Market activity resulted in 6 stocks falling while the prices of 9 securities rose.
In trading activity, AMG Packaging traded 290,000 shares at $20, Radio Jamaica traded 153,763 units at $1.55 and Scotia Investments jumped $3.90 to $33.90 while trading 53,500 units.

JSE makes early morning gains – Friday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange is enjoying modest gains in Friday morning trading as investors participate in moderate trading on the final day of the week. Trading volume and values were well down on Thursday’s levels but advancing stocks edged out declining ones.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 200.66 points to 186,953.68 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index advanced 179.43 points to 168,211.62, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index rose 191.65 points to close at 180,964.32 and the junior market index rose 2.46 points to 2,430.33.
At 10.45 am, a total of 23 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 346,328 shares changing hands carrying a value of $3,122,421, compared to 1,933,234 shares changing hands carrying a value of $12,769,849 on Thursday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 15,058 units compared to 69,044 on Thursday. Market activity resulted in 6 stocks falling while the prices of 8 securities rose.
Cable & Wireless traded 119,582 units but lost 10 cents in trading down to $1 was the sole stock trading over 100,000 units, but Seprod traded 50,000 and gained $1.40 to $24 and Paramount Trading lost $1 following the release of first quarter results that showed much lower profits than in 2015.
Majors drop juniors gain
The Jamaica Stock Exchange market main market indices fell in Thursday morning while the junior market index rose with volume increasing over Wednesday’s levels.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 233.27 points to 185,818.56 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index fell 208.58 points to 167,196.62, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index slipped 9.50 points to close at 179,837.16 and the junior market index rose 17.90 points to 2,421.24.
At 10.45 am, a total of 28 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,933,234 shares changing hands carrying a value of $12,769,849, compared to 1,599,416 shares changing hands carrying a value of $10,753,662 on Wednesday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 69,044 units compared to 72,701 on Wednesday. Market activity resulted in 10 stocks falling while the prices of 12 securities rose.
Caribbean Cement dropped $3 in early trading with 30,000 units at $30, but recovered back to $33 after trading 5,000 more units, JMMB Group fell from $14.98 on Wednesday to $13.50 while trading 3,000 units, Scotia Investments jumped to $34 from $30 while trading 26,000 units, Caribbean Cream Traded 260,866 units and last traded at $9.90 but went as high as $10.19, Honey Bun traded 1 million shares but lost ground to $5.51, down 49 cents but the bid is now at $5.70.
Trading jumps for juniors stocks – Wednesday
Market activity resulted in advancing stocks being edged by declining stocks 4 to 5, pushing the junior market index down by 20.19 points to 2,394.34.
At the close, 13 securities traded as trading jumped 728 percent from Tuesday’s levels, ending with 9,170,473 units changing hands, than on Tuesday, while value traded, jumped 510 percent to $51,520,805 from $8,452,329, on Tuesday.
Market activities ended with 6 securities closing with bids higher than their last selling prices and 1 ending with a lower offer.
In other trading activity, AMG Packaging jumped $2.40 to end at $20 with 21,662 units changing hands, Blue Power closed with 1,240 units changing hands to close at $24.50 after falling $3.50, Caribbean Cream closed trading with 80,500 units at $10. Caribbean Flavours traded 894,508 units to end at $8.60 with a rise of 60 cents, Caribbean Producers gained 1 cents in trading 17,000 units to end at $3.51, Honey Bun traded 17,036 shares and fell 20 cents to $6, Jamaican Teas traded 3,296 units to end at $4. Jetcon Corporation lost 20 cents with 6,200 units changing hands, to end at $3.80, Lasco Distributors had 800,475 units trading and closed at $7, Lasco Financial fell 10 cents and ended with 69,370 shares changing hands at $3.10, Lasco Manufacturing closed at $4.99 with 7,025,629 shares trading. Medical Disposables traded 213,287 with a gain of 18 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $5.05 and Paramount Trading dropped $1 to end with 20,270 shares changing hands at $25.
JSE majors drop sharply
The Jamaica Stock Exchange market stocks indices fell in Wednesday morning with big fall in the main market indices trading with volume increasing over Tuesday’s levels.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 2150.07 points to 185,347.93 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index dived 1,922.55 points to 166,775.78, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index slipped 1,858.71 points to close at 179,394.69 and the junior market index dipped 7.37 points to 2,407.16.
At 10.45 am, a total of 22 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,599,416 shares changing hands carrying a value of $10,753,662, compared to 2,592,474 shares changing hands carrying a value of $31,641,641 on Tuesday.
The average number of shares traded amounts to 72,701 units compared to 92,588 on Tuesday. Market activity resulted in 6 stocks falling while the prices of 9 securities rose.
JMMB Group traded 56,992 units and lost $1.50 to trade at $13.50, Scotia Investments jumped to $34 from $30 while trading 26,000 units, Blue Power Group pulled back from $28 that it closed at on Tuesday to $23.50 on small volume and Lasco Financial Services dropped to $2.80 from $3.20.
Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share had 355,130 units trading at $2.10, Caribbean Flavours & Fragrances traded 820,700 and rose to $8.60 from $8, Cable & Wireless traded 103,300 units at 98 cents.
