Pan Jam & Grace at new highs – Monday
Grace Kennedy and Pan Jamaican Investment traded at new 52 weeks’ high in the early morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with Grace hitting $90 following impressive first quarter results and Pan Jamaican traded as high as $130 but traded later at $125 in continued reaction to the company’s announced 5 fro 1 stock split, on a morning session of moderate trading.
The gains in the two stocks helped to push the main market indices up sharply by more than 1 percent.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Monday, the all Jamaica Composite Index rose 2,035.21 points to 170,597.52, the JSE Market Index gained 1,819.80 points to 153,586.45, the JSE combined index was up 1,726.04 points to 164,912.85 and the junior market index gained just 3.70 points to 2,188.13.
Stocks traded more than 100,000 units are, Caribbean Producers with 100,000 at $4 and Ciboney with 100,000 units. Trading resulted in activity in 23 securities, accounting for 490,595 shares changing hands as 10 stocks gained and 4 declined. The average number of shares traded is 21,330 units.
JSE reverses most of early losses – Tuesday
The market closed with 37 securities changed hands, accounting for 5,791,740 units valued at $159,776,122, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 1,364,688 units of the shares traded, valued at $9,672,342. Investors pushed the price of 18 stocks in the overall market up, 7 were pushed down including 7 stocks rising and 3 declining, from the junior market.
The JSE Market Index fell 42.46 points to end at 151,501.07. The all Jamaica Composite Index slipped 47.48 points to close at 168,265.30 and the JSE combined index rose 75.85 points, to close at 162,773.46.

At the end of market activities, Berger Paints traded 99,158 shares to rise 14 cents and closed at $4.14, Cable & Wireless closed at $1.39 after trading 154,987 units, Caribbean Cement traded 154,987 shares as the price jumped $1.99 to close at $27.99, Ciboney traded 418,270 shares at 13 cents after gaining 1 cent. Grace Kennedy closed at $84 with 945,030 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers lost 5 cents to end at $14.50 while trading 428,112 shares, JMMB Group rose 50 cents in trading 20,044 shares to close at $10, Kingston Wharves traded 95,600 shares, to close at $11.65. Margaritaville Turks fell 0.50 US cent in trading 402,850 shares at 16.50 US cents, National Commercial Bank gained 3 cents while trading 990,580 shares to close at $39.80, Pan Jamaican Investment jumped $1 with 12,640 shares trading at $98, Radio Jamaica traded 15,327 shares to end at $1.10. Sagicor Group ended with 41,056 shares changing hands with a gain of 31 cents to end at $22.30, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 131,542 shares to close at $10.10 after rising 10 cents, Scotia Group rose 50 cents to close at $31 while 8,841 units changed hands. Scotia Investments ended trading 19,695 shares to close at $26, Seprod Fell $1 to close at $16 with 13,284 units changing hands, Supreme Ventures gained 22 cents and closed at $5.49 with 6,693 shares changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 431,660 units at 17.05 US cents, down from 19 US cents.
JSE majors down juniors up
Trading in the early morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, on Tuesday saw the main market being active with stocks trading for 16 minutes before trading took place in the junior market. Trading resulted in the main market indices dropping and the junior market enjoying a moderate bounce.
Three stocks traded more than 100,000 units with Jamaica Broilers with 428,004 shares, Cable & Wireless Jamaica 118,112 units, Ciboney traded 418,270 units at 13 cents, Margaritaville Turks with 301,350 units, Proven Investments had 299,182 units changing hands but the price slipped to 17.05 US cents.
After 75 minutes of trading, on Tuesday, the average volume traded amounts to 70,975 units per active stock, compared to an average of 22,162 units in the mid-morning session on Monday.
Trading resulted in activity in 25 securities, accounting for 1,774,364 shares changing hands as 9 stocks gained and 6 declined.
The market saw the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 986.08 points to 167,326.70, the JSE Market Index fell 881.71 points to 150,661.82, the JSE combined index ended with a fall of 676.76 points to 162,020.85 and the junior market index bounced 13.76 points to 2,170.67.
Low volumes continue on JSE – Thursday
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday ended with very low volumes in the main market as just 2.27 million shares, including 1.48 million from the preference sector traded, well below the junior market. A total of 36 securities changed hands, accounting for 5,704,171 units valued at a mere $29,931,176, in all market segments.
The junior market accounted for 3,434,205 shares valued at $13,133,950. At the close of trading 17 stocks in the overall market gained, 13 declined including 6 of the stocks rising and 4 declining, from the junior market. Two stocks ended at 52 weeks’ closing highs including one in the junior market.
The JSE Market Index dropped 495.26 points to end at 153,356.09. The all Jamaica Composite Index pulled back 553.88 points to close at 170,339.89 and the JSE combined index climbed down 628.43 points, to close at 164,337.92.

Ciboney traded 108,000 shares but fell 2 cents to end at 12 cents, Grace Kennedy gained 50 cents to end at $83.50 with 6,038 shares changing hands, Jamaica Broilers had 54,653 units changing hands, to close at $14.55, after rising by 5 cents. Jamaica Producers jumped $1.25 with just 250 units changing hands at $34.50, JMMB Group rose by 50 cents in trading 3,627 shares to close at $10.50, Kingston Wharves traded just 200 shares and gained 70 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $13, National Commercial Bank fell 65 cents while trading 22,416 shares to close at $40.25. Radio Jamaica traded 39,500 shares but fell 4 cents to $1.15, Sagicor Group climbed by $1 to end with 323,077 shares changing hands at $23, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 18,156 shares to close at $10.15 after falling 10 cents, Scotia Group declined by $1 to close at $32 while 43,830 units changed hands. Supreme Ventures fell 30 cents and closed at $5.35 with 80,300 shares changing hands, Proven Investments traded 24,067 share at 20 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference shares traded 1,476,960 units at $2.14 for the loss of 1 cent.
Rising stocks dominate on JSE – Tuesday

The JSE Market Index fell 122.57 points to end at 153,377.94. The all Jamaica Composite Index declined by 137.09 points to close at 170,364.32 and the JSE combined index eased 121.52 points, to close at 164,416.20.

Ciboney traded 615,712 and gained 2 cents to 15 cents, Rebranded Gleaner Company, 1834 Investments, fell 13 cent to close at $1.02 in trading only 8,500 shares, Jamaica Broilers gained 35 cents with 19,395 units changing hands, to close at $14.50. Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 20,000 shares but lost 45 cents to end at $20.55, JMMB Group rose 70 cents in trading 4,116 shares to close at $10.20, Kingston Properties traded 12,084 shares to close at $6.50, Mayberry Investments jumped 85 cents as it traded 73,642 shares to close at $4.25. National Commercial Bank gained 50 cents while 20,091 shares traded, to close at $41, Pan Jamaican closed with a gain of 50 cents at $88.50 with 2,000 shares changing hands. Pulse Investments rose 51 cents to close at $3.01 as 3,987 units changed hands, Radio Jamaica traded 25,100 shares and lost 1 cent to close at $1.19, Sagicor Group fell 40 cents to end with 100,330 shares changing hands at $22, Scotia Group jumped $2.70 to close at $33.20 while only 1,035 units changed hands. Scotia Investments closed with 8,374 shares trading with a gain of 50 cents to $26, Seprod ended with 19,777 units trading with a loss of $1.30 at $15.60, Supreme Ventures climbed 50 cents and closed at $5.50 with 2,086 shares changing hands and Proven Investments traded 55,988 share at 20 US cents.
Jamaican stocks drop again – Wednesday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market indices on Wednesday gave up much more than they gained on Tuesday, with losses exceeding 2.3 percent compared to more than 1.90 percent gained on Tuesday. The all Jamaica Composite and the JSE index dropped more than 1,000 points on Wednesday.
A total of 37 securities changed hands, in all market segments with 14 stocks rising while 16 declined. Trading amounted to 6,525,627 units valued at $85,157,957 changing hands, in all markets, the junior market accounting for 1,448,567 units valued at $4,853,764.
The JSE Market Index declined 1,043.10 points to end at 149,006.90, the all Jamaica Composite Index fell 1,166.58 points to 165,475 and the JSE combined index dropped 699.90 points, to close at 157,519.32.

Caribbean Cement fell $1.89 to close at $19.11 with 3,075,900 shares changing hands, Carreras ended trading with 18,790 shares, to close at $66, Ciboney traded 461,143 shares but shed 2 cents to end at 13 cents, Grace lost 42 cents to close at $81.10 with 142,927 shares trading. Jamaica Broilers had 30,865 units changing hands, to close with a loss of 80 cents at $13.70. Jamaica Producers ended at $32 while trading 105,600 shares, JMMB Group had 22,971 shares changing hands with a loss of 38 cents to end at $9.60, Margaritaville Turks traded 138,798 shares to close at 16.5 US cents after falling 97 cents, National Commercial Bank had 8,594 shares changing hands to close at $40. Pan Jamaican Investments traded 11,500 units at $90, Radio Jamaica rose 1 cents as 710,157 shares were traded to close at $1.15, Sagicor Group fell 50 cents in ending with 854 shares changing hands to close at $22.50. Scotia Group traded just 486 shares to close at $30.30 after falling 75 cents, Supreme Ventures rose 5 cents with 11,000 shares trading to end at $5.10, Proven Investmenst closed at 17 US cents while trading 108,862 shares, and the JMMB 7.50% preference share, traded 92,200 units with a loss of 1 cent at $1.05, a 52 weeks’ low.
