Trading levels picked up the early Wednesday morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with an increased with the average number of securities trading almost doubling after 75 minutes of the market’s opening. The volume traded also increased well over the amount traded on Tuesday by 69 percent.
After 75 minutes of trading in the early morning session, on Wednesday, the all Jamaica Composite Index ICI int sht 18-05-16 fell 175.88 points to 170,239.89, the JSE Market Index declined by 157.27 points to 153,266.67, the JSE combined index fell 150.58 points, to 164,103.91 and the junior market index lost 0.46 points to 2,138.18.
Stocks traded with 100,000 units or more include, Cable & Wireless traded 328,761 shares at $1.26, Caribbean Cement with 501,000 shares at $27, Carreras with 109,992 units at $64 and 138 Student Living 1,991,000 units at $4.50, in the junior market, General Accident Insurance with 132,318 shares at $2 and Lasco Financial Services with 106,630 units at $3.40.

Grace Kennedy climbed to a 52 weeks’ closing high of $87 but closed with a gain of $1.51 at $85.51 with 18,308 shares changing hands after it traded at $87 earlier in the day. The company reported a big jump in earnings for the March 2016 quarter of 153 percent after strong growth in most divisional profit and investors are quietly buying into the fortunes with selling down to just two offers amounting to 4,700 shares.
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the main market on Friday was saw low volumes changing hands, but the market closed with less active selling than before the reading of the budget, on Thursday by the Minister of Finance.

Trading after 75 minutes in the early morning session on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, on Wednesday, saw the main market shedding ground, with the all Jamaica Composite Index falling almost 991.84 points after an hours and 20 minutes of trading, but recovered to lose 555 points shortly after. At the same time the junior market just inched up.

Trading resulted in activity in 28 securities, accounting for 910,214 shares changing hands as 8 stocks gained and 10 declined. The average number of shares traded is 32,508 compared to an average of 70,975 units on Tuesday.
The market saw the all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 555.06 points to 167,710.24, the JSE Market Index fell 496.30 points to 151,004.77, the JSE combined index ended with a fall of 458.55 points to 162,314.91 and the junior market index gained just 0.18 points to 2,168.33.
