JSE drops sharply on Tuesday
National Commercial Bank closed with 1,327,563 shares changing hands, the price fell by 20 cents to close at $41.80, Grace Kennedy chipped in with 253,791 units, with the price jumping $9, to close back at $125 and Jamaica Producers traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $49, after rising by $1 with 17,253 shares changing hands.
Stocks traded amount to 3,512,857 units valued at $109,817,045, in all market segments with the junior market accounting for to 1,016,398 units valued at $4,845,689 of all trades.
The JSE Market Index dived 1,245.08 points to end at 159,595.62. The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,392.49 points to close at 177,317.98 and the JSE combined index declined 1,133.47 points, to end at 171,149.34.

The price of 1834 Investments fell 11 cents in trading 11,900 units at $1.05, Jamaica Broilers gained 25 cents with 11,243 units changing hands, to close at $14.75. JMMB Group traded 12,445 units to close at $9.80. Pan Jamaican Investment Trust closed with just 189 shares trading, as the price rose by 40 cents to $27.40, Radio Jamaica had 80,100 shares trading but fell 24 cents to $1.50, Sagicor Group ended with 287,712 shares changing hands after declining 1 cent to $23, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 38,550 shares and lost 3 cents to close at $10.12. Scotia Group rose 64 cents with 207,786 units trading to close at $30.75, Scotia Investments traded 12,600 shares but fell 50 cents to close at $25.50, Supreme Ventures ended trading with 36,902 units at $4.75, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 47,680 units at 18 US cents after slipping by 1.47 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 29,000 units at $1.04 for a 1 cent rise.
JSE jumps higher on Monday
Stocks traded amount to 9,084,743 units valued at $145,603,514, in all market segments with the junior market accounting for 775,816 shares, valued at $4,015,547 of all trades.
The market closed with prices of 10 stocks in the overall market rising, 12 declining, including 3 stocks rising and 2 declining, from the junior market.
The JSE Market Index gained 1,108.10 points to end at 160,840.70. The all Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,239.29 points to close at 178,710.47 and the JSE combined index climbed 978.39 points, to end at 172,282.81.

At the end of market activities, demand for Caribbean Cement has melted away as the price of oil on the world market heats up, with the stock price falling 80 cents to close at $21.20 after trading just 2,965 units. Bids for Cement are few with only 13,000 units being bought down to $19. Carreras added 1 cent in trading 33,000 shares and closed at $62.81. The price of 1834 Investments fell 4 cents in trading 77,834 units at $1.16, Jamaica Broilers traded 12,880 units changing hands to close at $14.50, Jamaica Producers traded 10,266 shares at $48, Jamaica Stock Exchange lost $1.02 in trading 2,000 shares to close at $19, JMMB Group declined by 20 cents in trading 109,800 units to close at $9.80. National Commercial Bank closed with 304,003 shares changing hands at $42, Radio Jamaica had 78,200 shares trading but fell 11 cents to $1.74, Sagicor Group ended with 265,658 shares changing hands after rising 11 cents to $23.01, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 38,950 shares and gained 5 cents to close at $10.15. Scotia Group with 274,855 units to close at $30.11, Scotia Investments traded 27,072 shares and gained $1 to close at $26 and Supreme Ventures lost just 1 cent in trading 164,840 units at $4.75.
JSE stocks close higher – Wednesday
The JSE Market Index gained 770.88 points to end at 159,719.08. The all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 862.14 points to close at 177,456.06 and the JSE combined index rose 622.59 points, to end at 171,033.62.

National Commercial Bank traded 51,295 shares at $41.12 after shedding 40 cents, Pan Jamaican Investment Trust traded 43,090 shares to end at $27. Radio Jamaica closed trading with 3,000 shares with the price rising 23 cents to end at $1.75, Sagicor Group ended with 169,846 shares changing hands after gaining 30 cents to $23, Scotia Group dropped 59 cents to close at $31.41 with 98,123 units changing hands. Scotia Investments traded 133,125 shares to close at $26.10, Seprod traded 4,400 shares unchanged at $17, Sterling Investments traded 6,000 shares with a gain of $1.49 to close at $12.99 and JMMB Group 7.50% preference share ended with 331,396 units traded at $2.10.
Stocks close week positively on Friday
The Jamaica Stock Exchange ended higher at the close of trading on Friday, with all major market indices recording positive movements, while the volume and value of stocks traded rose above the recent low levels. Supreme Ventures was the dominant trade with 3,590,303 units to close unchanged at $4.50 and 138 Student living with 1 million shares closed at $4.50 after gaining by 10 cents.
Overall, 43 securities changed hands on Friday, accounting for 8,594,535 units valued at $114,210,268, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 2,704,040 shares, valued at $10,558,176 of the all trades. Prices of 16 stocks in the overall market rose, 13 declined, including 8 stocks rising and 4 declining, from the junior market. One stock ended at a new 52 weeks’ high.

Radio Jamaica closed trading with 601,416 shares with the price falling 36 cents to end at $1.42, Sagicor Group ended with 130,377 shares changing hands after adding 35 cents at $23, Scotia Group gained 50 cents to close at $31 as 88,521 units changed hands and Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference shares traded 44,390 units at $1,247.
JSE cuts sharp morning losses
The Jamaica Stock Exchange lost ground at the end of trading on Wednesday, with the main market major indices declining and the junior market Index moving higher, while the volume of stocks traded, fell to low levels in a moderate day of trading activity.
The main market was recovering from big declines in the early morning session, with the all Jamaica Composite Index dropping 948.35 points, the JSE Market Index losing 847.97 points and the JSE combined index dipping 715.15 points.
A total of 38 securities changed hands on Wednesday, accounting for 1,894,110 units valued at $16,587,522, in all market segments. The junior market accounted for 1,190,538 shares, valued at $6,986,614 of the overall trades.
The price of 13 stocks in the overall market rose, 18 declined, including 5 stocks rising and 8 declining, from the junior market. 3 stocks in all markets hit new highs, 2 of which ended at new 52 weeks’ high.
The JSE Market Index dropped 76.61 points to end at 159,757.32. The all Jamaica Composite Index lost 85.68 points to close at 177,498.82 and the JSE combined index rose 69.03 points, to close at 170,895.65.

Jamaica Producers traded 54,000 shares to end at $44.01, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 20 cents trading 360 shares, to close at $21, JMMB Group traded 8,227 units as the price fell 10 cents to $9.90. National Commercial Bank traded 25,010 shares, to close with a loss of 49 cents at $41.51, there was a $1 fall, in the price of 138 Student Living, to close with 12,685 shares changing hands at $4.50, Pan Jamaican Investment Trust traded 75,609 shares and ended at 52 week’s closing high of $27. Radio Jamaica closed trading with 105,416 shares with the price falling 30 cents to end at $1.70, Sagicor Group ended with 5,000 shares changing hands after falling 11 cents at $22.89, Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed at $10.12 with 21,861 shares changing hands.
