The main market indices of the Jamaica Stock Market jumped sharply at 10:45 AM on Thursday morning but the junior market slipped after just two stocks traded in a moderate trading session with 6 stocks gaining versus 7 that fell.
Trading volumes were generally low except for two securities that traded more than 100,000 shares, these are Cable & Wireless with 150,000 units at $1.10 and Supreme Ventures with 368,964 units at $4.99, Berger Paints traded close to 100,000 units with 85,404 shares at $5.
In trading after the 10:45 cut off Jamaica Producers 725,108 units at $8.20 with the bid at $8.23 to buy 18,050 units, there were no stocks offered for sale.
At 10:45 am only 20 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 743,346 shares changing hands. The average number of shares traded amounts to 37,167 units compared to 80,952 units on Wednesday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index surged 1,287.12 points to 180,953.47, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 1,150.92 points to 162,846.35, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index gained 853.57 points to close at 173,722.72 and the junior market index lost 20.85 points to 2,209.61.
Juniors down majors jump – Thursday
Scotia pushes JSE early Wednesday
Scotia Group stock price surged $3.42 seconds before 10:45AM with 525,810 shares trading at $32.43, after the Jamaica Stock Market indices rose modestly in early trading, but fell back modestly ahead of the Scotia Group jump. Trading on Wednesday remains moderate with only a few stocks trading reasonable volumes at this time of the day.
Jamaica Producers Group (JPG) is the second leading trade with 486,781 units as the price rose 30 cents to $8.20, there are no JPG stock currently being offered for sale. Other noticeable trades include Cable & Wireless with 273,653 units at $1.06, Consolidated Bakeries with 48,150 shares at $2.50, after the company posted profit for the six months to June of $27 million versus $15 million in 2015 with earnings per share ending at 12 cents for the period an just 2 cents for the June quarter. Honey Bun traded 38,815 shares at $5.60 and Jetcon Corporation with 64,203 units at $2.85, with a 15 cents gain.

The all Jamaica Composite Index surged 1,799.16 points to 180,075.01, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 1,608.77 points to 162,060.85, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index gained 1,415.02 points to close at 173,208.97 and the junior market index lost 7.53 points to 2,230.54.
Juniors regain Monday’s losses
Trading levels climbed from Monday’s low level at 10:45 am with several stocks trading over 50,000 units with JJMB Group trading nearly 3 million units.
Stocks trading at a new 52 weeks’ high are Cargo Handlers at $72.02, ISP Finance Services at $5.22. Other noticeable trades include Cable & Wireless with 105,961 units at $1.15, Caribbean Producers with 50,000 units at $3.20, Honey Bun traded 75,372 shares at $5.53, JMMB Group traded 2,537,927 units at $9.87, JMMB Group 7.50% preference share traded 87,835 units at $1.10, Jetcon Corporation with 48,827 units at $3, Lasco Distributors with 217,361 shares at $6.55, Lasco Manufacturing with 665,561 units at $5, Sagicor Group had 170,700 units at $21.50.
The market indices all fell in the main and junior markets, with 11 stocks gaining versus 11 that fell.

The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 703.50 points to 177,756.10, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index fell 629.05 points to 159,987.33, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 256.95 points to close at 171,363.46 points and the junior market index gained 81.91 points to 2,238.13.
Olympics affects trading on JSE – Monday
Trading levels declined sharply and may well be attributable to the Olympic activities with the volume of each stock traded being unusually low with none trading over 13,000 units up to 10:45 am. Trading picked up subsequently with more securities changing hands with increased volumes. Elsewhere, Access Financial Services Unsecured Variable Rate Note Due 2020 was listed on the Exchange on Monday.
Berger Paints climbed 36 cents to $5.16, Blue Power rose by 50 cents to a new high of $17, Carib Cement fell 45 cents to $27.54, Grace Kennedy fell $1.50 to $45 and Scotia Group jumped $2.10 to $29.20. Lasco Distributors fell 25 cents to $6.75 and Lasco Manufacturing lost 44 cents to $4.51.

At 11:05 am 33 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,426,600 shares changing hands. The average number of shares traded amounts to 43,230 units compared to 167,184 units on Friday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 794.76 points to 178,660.46 the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index rose 710.66 points to 160,795.99 the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index fell 73.07 points to close at 171,364.30 points and the junior market index lost 71.36 points to 2,165.11.
C&W dominates JSE trading – Friday
Cable & Wireless has traded 3.44 million units in the early morning session of the Jamaica Stock Exchange in response to the company’s first quarter results with a rise of 11 percent in revenues but a slippage in net profit as outpayments, depreciation and interest cost rose thus negating the improved revenues. The stock traded between $1.20 and $1.30 so far.
Lasco Distributors was the next largest trade after C&W with 577,869 units at $7.15 followed by JMMB Group 7.50% preference share with 300,000 units and Grace Kennedy with 119,225 units trading at $44.01. The major market indices all rose in the main and junior markets, with 12 stocks gaining versus 10 that fell.
At 10:45 am 30 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 5,015,512 shares changing hands. The average number of shares traded amounts to 167,184 units compared to 246,145 units on Thursday.

SVL trades 12m shares on JSE – Monday
Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday morning resulted in an unusually high level of 34 securities trading. Supreme Ventures (SVL) traded 12,014,100 shares unchanged at $4.70 to be by far the dominant trade. The closest to that is Cable & Wireless with 134,255 units at $1.26.
The bulk of the SVL trade was done between Mayberry Investments, who sold from in house inventory and Scotia Investments, the buying broker, who bought for a combination of clients and inhouse purposes.

The market indices all rose in the main and junior markets, but declining stocks were in the ascendancy with only 3 stocks gaining in price versus 8 that fell.
