Slow start for JSE – Wednesday

JSE intra 20-07-16 The Jamaica stock market is off to slow start with no stock trading over 100,000 units after 75 minutes of the opening of market. The stock with the highest volume is Lasco Distributors with 75,456 units at $7.50 after rising 40 cents.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 307.31 points to 177,170.70, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 274.79 points to 159,463.88, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 582.36 point to close at 170,353.83 points andthe junior market index climbed 31.91 points to 2,187.05 with the jump in the price of Lasco Distributors.
Trading at 10:45am resulted in 20 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of a mere 234,305 shares, with 6 securities rising and 7 falling. The average number of shares traded amounts to 11,715 units compared to an average of 53,267 units on Tuesday.

JSE off to moderate start – Tuesday

Jamaica stocks is off to moderate start in trading on Tuesday morning after 80 minutes of the opening of market but the indices recorded modest gains with the market continuing to consolidate.
JSE intra 19-07-16Securities trading over 100,000 units include Cable & Wireless that traded 200267 at $1.12, Derrimon Trading had 530,506 units trading at $3.05, Lasco Distributors with 143,689 shares at $7.10, National Commercial Bank having 179,342 shares changing hands at $42.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 389.78 points to 176,954.71, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 348.54 points to 159,270.75, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 325.73 point to close at 169,817.89 points andthe junior market index slipped 0.24 points to 2,152.28.
Trading at 10:50am resulted in 25 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of 1,331,680 shares, with 8 securities rising and 8 falling. The average number of shares traded amounts to 53,267 units compared to an average of 110,630 units on Monday.

Jamaica stocks gained in trading on Monday in the main market but there was some slippage in the junior market although Caribbean Cream traded at a new high of $7.55,JSE intra 18-07-16 up by 90 cents with 21,157 units as investors continue to respond to the company’s first quarter results.
The all Jamaica Composite Index gained 130.80 points to 179,643.95, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 109.96 points to 159,887.05, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 1,499.13 point to close at 171,976.49 points andthe junior market index slipped 0.22 points to 2,157.12.
Subsequent to 12:20PM the main market indices enter negative territory.
Trading at 12:20 pm, resulted in 28 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of 3,097,628 shares with 14 securities rising and 7 falling. The average number of shares traded amounts to 110,630 units compared to an average of 63,379 units on Friday.

JSE off to rousing start – Friday

Jamaica stocks started trading on Friday where they left off on Thursday with both the main market and the junior market indices rising. Caribbean Cream traded at a new high of $6.78 with 56,000 units as investors continue to respond to the company’s first quarter results.
The all Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,506.48 points to 179,177.69, the Jamaica Stock JSE intra 15-07-16Exchange Market Index gained 1,347.06 points to 161,258.48, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 1,499.13 point to close at 171,976.49 points andthe junior market index gained 19.20 points to 2,177.83.
Trading after 75 minutes of the market’s opening resulted in 23 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of 1,330,966 shares with the average number of shares traded amounts to 63,379 units compared to an average of 45,559 units on Thursday. Trading has so far resulted in 10 stocks gaining and 6 declining as stocks trading over 100,000 units include Cable & Wireless that traded 167,000 at $1.12, Consolidated Bakeries traded 400,000 shares at $2.10, Honey Bun with 185,000 units traded at $5.60 and Lasco Manufacturing with 236,850 shares trading at $5.05. Scotia Group gained $1.10 while trading 18,490 shares at $31.90 while Pan Jamaican Investments lost $1 in trading 27,900 units at $24.

JSE off rocky start – Wednesday

Jamaica stocks started trading on Wednesday with a rocky start with the main market indices continuing to make sharp declines, while the junior market jumped, with Lasco Distributors price climbing to $6.55 from $6.05 and Caribbean Cream trading at $5.50, JSE intra 12-07-16as investors respond to the company’s first quarter results, with an increase of 81 percent in profits.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,216.89 points to 174,460.57, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index dived 1,088.11 points to 157,040.54, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index declined 572.41 point to close at 167,075.96 points andthe junior market index gained 42.58 points to 2,086.66.
The session had low volumes trading overall after 75 minutes of the market’s opening resulting in 24 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of just 418,777 shares 5 stocks gained and 12 declined, including a fall of 95 cents in Grace Kennedy, 80 cents in Jamaica Producers, $1.40 fall in National Commercial Bank and $2.80 in Scotia Investments price. The average number of shares traded amounts to 17,449 units.

JSE off to slow start – Monday

Jamaica stocks are off to a slow and moderate start to the new week with no trading in junior stocks after more than 44 minutes of opening. Kingston Wharves, however, climbed to a new high of $16.50, but with limited volume.
Cable & Wireless is the sole stock to trade more than 100,000 units with 204,519 shares traded at $1.12, JSE intra 11-07-16Knutsford Express fell $2.10 on small volume to $14.70 and Portland JSX fell 80 cents to $13.20 with 26,892 shares changing hands. Elsewhere, Lasco Distributors that came under selling pressure last week traded a small volume of just 1,500 shares at $6.
The session had low volumes trading overall after 80 minutes of the market’s opening resulting in 22 securities changing hands, accounting for a volume of just 296,560 shares 10 stocks gained and 6 declined. The average number of shares traded amounts to 13,480 units compared to an average of 49,022 units on Friday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 343.87 points to 177,104.17, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index rose 307.48 points to 159,404.39 the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index rose by 652.50 point to close at 168,805.05 points and the junior market index gained 35.80 points to 2,041.49.

Portland JSX jumps to $14

Investors pushed Portland JSX to a new high of $14, for an increase of 27 percent, since it was listed on Wednesday. The stock has so far traded 30,000 shares and put on $1 in the morning session. Lasco Distributors with 124,864 shares changing hands and Caribbean Producers, made some recovery from two day of declines.

The session, generally, had low volumes trading after 85 minutes of the market’s opening, resulting in 22 securities changing hands and accounting for a volume of 1,078,489 shares, of which 11 stocks gained and 3 declined. The average number of shares traded amounts to 49,022 units, compared to an average of 17,210 units on Thursday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index climbed 881.09 points to 179,623.77, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index rose 787.85 points to 161,657.36 the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index rose by 472.92 point to close at 170,549.07 points andthe junior market index slipped 25.14 points to 2,007.78.
By 11:15 am, the main market shed 1,785.12 points as measured by the all Jamaica Composite Index , the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index chopped 1,596.21 points and the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index 1,738.49 while the junior market remained unchanged.

LasD chops over 85 points off juniors

Investors chopped the price of Lasco Distributors by $1.01 to $5.99 and pulled down the junior market index by a large 4 percent or 85 points in early Thursday morning trading. After 80 minutes of trading the price plummeted to $5.30 pulling the index even lower. The drop also pulled down the combined market index by more than 1,100 points.
Investors continue to react negatively to the news that Pfizer’s estimate for damages due to Lasco is US$518,000 well off the US$300 million the local company is claiming.JSE intra 07-07-16 Lasco Distributors traded 396,700 shares as the price dropped $1.70 overall. The next big trade was Supreme Ventures with 4,600,497 units at $4.50. Some demand have built up for Portland JSX with 59,949 shares trading at $12.60 and with bids at $13.

The average number of shares traded amounts to 295,103 units compared to an average of 17,210 units on Thursday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index dropped 379.30 points to 177,163.92, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index fell 339.17 points to 159,457.81, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index declined by 1,190.21 to close at 168,783.34 points andthe junior market index slipped 99.03 points to 2,034.54.
