JSE Main Market recovers 30% of losses

JSE Main market recovering from a huge fall in March.

Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market continued its recovery from the huge March plunge in putting in another robust performance on Monday and recovered 50,581.75 points since the market bottomed on March 25 and nearly a third of the 154,631.13 points tumbled from the beginning of March to the low in the month.
At the close of trading, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 3,320.99 points to end at 425,672.84, the JSE Market Index climbed 3,004.85 points to 387,910.09 and the JSE Financial Index added 0.88 points to 106.32.
The market closed with 46 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with prices of 20 stocks advancing, 20 stocks declining, with six securities trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting for 24,630,786 units valued at $77,117,092, in contrast to 33,384,287 units valued at $221,730,878 from 42 securities on Friday.
Trans Jamaican Highway led trading with 10.4 million shares for 42 percent of total volume. Wigton Windfarm followed, with 8.5 million units for 34.6 percent of the day’s trade and Trans Jamaican Highway trading in the US dollar market accounted for 3.8 million units for the equivalent of 15.6 percent of the Main Market’s volume. Other stocks trading more than one million units were Sagicor Select Financial Fund, with 2.3 million shares and Wisynco Group with 1.3 million units.
The Market closed with an average of 586,447 units valued $1,836,121 for each security traded, in contrast to 794,864 units valued at an average of $5,279,307 on Friday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 606,651 units valued at $3,006,358 for each security changing hands, compared to 613,607 units valued at $3,409,226 for each security traded. Trading in March resulted in an average of 1,146,245 units valued at $7,550,295 for each security.

The PE ratio of the market ended at 14.4, while the Main Market ended at 14.6 times  2020/21 projected earnings.
In the Main Market, Barita Investments ended with a loss of $1.40 in exchanging 22,858 units and closed at $56.60, Caribbean Cement gained 51 cents to finish at $44 trading 30,861 shares, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund rose $2.25 to end at $37.25 while transferring 534 units. First Rock Capital closed 40 cents lower at $9.60, with 50,007 shares crossing the exchange, Jamaica Broilers declined $3.52 to $29, with 48,411 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers gained $1.04 to close at $20.15 transferring 15,332 units. Mayberry Jamaican Equities closed $1.20 higher to reach $9.10, in trading 59,464 shares, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy advanced by $5 to $145, with an exchange of 344 stock units, NCB Financial Group climbed $2.09 to $155 in swapping 37,820 shares. Sagicor Group added $1.75 to end at $50.50, with 89,434 shares changing hands, Salada Foods dropped $3.78 to finish at $32.22, after transferring 471 units, Seprod closed $1 lower to $48.50, with an exchange of 11,674 units. Stanley Motta shed 30 cents to end at $5.50 trading 22,100 units, Sterling Investments picked up 35 cents to close at $2.85, with a transfer of 145,739 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments lost $1.96 ended at $17.03, after exchanging 103,764 shares and Wisynco Group rose $1.49 to $15.39, in swapping 1,312,997 shares.

Strong weekly start for Junior Market

The Junior Market started the week off positively as it builds on last week’s sharp gains in adding 46.69 points to the Market Index to close at 2,521,29 and recovered 489.50 points or 24 percent from the low reached on March 18th.

Junior Market has recovered close to half of the losses in March.

Market activity closed with 33 securities changing hands, resulting in an exchange of 8,266,110 units valued at $19,972,528 compared to 25,469,094 units valued at $48,110,589 on Friday.
At the end of the trading day, the prices of 15 securities advanced, 12 declined and six remained unchanged. The average PE ratio of the Junior Market ended at 9.3 based on 2020/21 earnings.
Trading ended with an average of 250,488 units at $605,228 for each security traded, in contrast to 771,791 units, for an average of $1,457,897 on Friday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 543,166 units valued at $816,817 and previously 451,476 units valued at $885,272. In contrast, March closed with an average of 226,230 units, valued at $542,563 for each security traded.

More gains for JSE Main Market

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed higher for the sixth time out of the last seven trading days and recovered 47,260.76 points of the losses in March, to be up 13 percent from the recent lows of 375,091.09 points, reached on 25th of March on the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index.

At the close of the market on Friday, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 4,851.68 points to 422,351.85, the JSE Market Index climbed 4,394.76 points to 384,905.24 and the JSE Financial Index added 1.51 points to 105.44.
The market closed with 47 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with prices of 25 stocks advancing, 15 declining and 4 securities trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting for 33,384,287 units valued at $221,730,878, in contrast to 19,058,509 units valued at $80,731,137 from 40 securities on Thursday.
Trans Jamaican Highway led trading with 21.5 million shares for 64.4 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 2.6 million units for 7.9 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.9 million units for 5.6 percent market share. Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund ended with 1.1 million shares and was the only other stock trading more than one million units.

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed higher on reduced volume less dollar valued than on Wednesday as three stocks rose for every two that declined, leading to the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index jumping 3,216.72 points to 417,500.17. The JSE Market Index climbed 2,911.92 points to 380,510.48 and the JSE Financial Index adding just 0.30 points to 103.93.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with prices of 21 stocks advancing, 14 declining and ten securities trading firm. Junior Market rapidly clawing back March losses

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange enjoyed another day of outstanding gains in the market index of 69.27 points to close at 2,463.20 in trading on Thursday, the fifth day of substantial gains in a row, lifting the index 369 points since last week Friday.
Thursday gains reduced the market losses for the year, from a high of 39.3 percent in March to 26.5 percent presently. At the close of market activities, prices of 16 securities advanced, eight declined and ten remained unchanged with 34 securities changing hands. Trading resulted in an exchange of 13,283,703 units for $24,888,541 compared to 7,297,716 units at $17,298,654 on Wednesday. The average PE ratio of the Junior Market ended at 9.1 based on 2020/21 earnings.
Trading ended with an average of 390,697 units at $732,016 for each security traded, in contrast to 208,506 units for an average of $494,247 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 298,258 units valued at $611,409, which is higher than the average in March of 226,230 units, valued at $542,563 for each security traded.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Junior Market Index surged 89.79 points to close at 2,393.93 as trading ended on Wednesday with 35 securities changing hands, 13 securities advanced, 12 declined and ten remained unchanged. resulting in an exchange of 7,297,716 units valued at $17,298,654 compared to 14,255,673 units valued at $34,934,660 on Tuesday.

JSE Main Market starts Q2 with a fall

Jamaica Stock Exchange started the second quarter of 2020 with losses in the leading indices after racking substantial gains ahead on the month-end. The market closed with 40 securities changing hands with prices of 22 stocks advancing, 21 declining and two trading firm.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index declined 1,819.45 points to 414,283.45, the JSE Market Index dropped 1,643.55 points to 377,598.56, but the JSE Financial Index rose 0.33 points to 103.63.
The JSE Main Market activity ended with 22,417,248 units valued at $113,463,573, in contrast to 46,241,343 units valued at $672,264,195 from 42 securities on Tuesday.
Trans Jamaican Highway led trading with 9.3 million shares for 42 percent of total volume followed by Wigton Windfarm with 4.1 million units for 18.3 percent of the day’s trade, and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.7 million units for 7.5 percent of the market’s volume. QWI Investments was the only stock trading more than one million units, with 1.4 million shares.

JMMB Group closed $1.44 lower to $38.54, in swapping 110,895 shares, Kingston Wharves added 59 cents to finish at $43.50, in trading 12,358 units, Mayberry Investments picked up 44 cents to close at $5.99, with 81,015 units crossing the exchange. NCB Financial Group advanced to $154.99, with gains of $4.99 and swapping 57,909 units, 138 Student Living climbed $1.34 to $6.99, after transferring 15,500 units, PanJam Investment ended at $78, with a loss of $1 trading 63,834 units. Portland JSX gained 70 cents exchanging 2,090 units and closed at $8, Proven Investments ended at $36.60, after climbing $1.60 and transferring 14,113 stock units, Sagicor Group closed $4.40 lower to $48, in swapping 101,381 shares. Salada Foods ended the day at $30, after gaining $1 trading 200 units, Scotia Group dropped $1.49 to finish at $46.50, with 29,841 units changing hands, Seprod added 50 cents to transferring 254,512 shares and closed at $47.50. Stanley Motta shed 75 cents with an exchange of 6,000 units to end at $5, Supreme Ventures gained 57 cents and closed at $13.57, in swapping 561,955 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments ended at $17.03, with a loss of 97 cents trading 99,934 units and Wisynco Group closed $1.39 lower to $13.30 exchanging 1,657,479 shares.

JSE majors end worse month with gains

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market closed out the worse month in its 50-year history, with a plunge of 29 percent from the start of the month to March 25, before it recovered 41,011.81 of the 154,631.13 points lost up to that point to close the month with a loss of 21 percent.
At the close of trading for March and the end of the first quarter of 2020, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index soared 15,152.90 points to 416,102.90, the JSE Market Index jumped 13,681.82 points to 379,242.11 and the JSE Financial Index gained 2.76 points to end at 103.30.
The market closed with 48 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with prices of 29 stocks advancing, 9 declining and 10 securities trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting for 46,241,343 units valued at $672,264,195, in contrast to 29,160,780 units valued at $111,371,550 from 39 securities on Monday.
Pulse Investments led trading with 17.2 million shares, for 37 percent of overall Main Market volume, Trans Jamaican Highway traded 7.3 million units, in the JSE US dollar market, the equivalent of 15.7 percent of the Main Market volume and Barita Investments exchanged 7 million units for 15 percent market share.
Other stocks trading more than one million units were Wigton Windfarm with 6.9 million units, Trans Jamaican Highway with 6.1 million shares, JMMB Group with 2.5 million shares and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.1 million units.
The Market closed with an average of 1,100,984 units amounting to $16,006,290 for each security traded, in contrast to 747,712 units valued at an average of $2,855,681 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 1,146,245 units valued at $7,550,295 for each security changing hands compared to 1,148,383 units valued at 7,111,386 for each security traded. Trading in February resulted in an average of 624,731 units valued at $3,239,665 for each security.

Mayberry Jamaican Equities ended $1.08 higher in trading 16,911 units at $7.72, PanJam Investment rose $1 to $79, with 54,643 shares changing hands, Proven Investments ended at $35, after losing 94 cents while trading 36,309 shares. Pulse Investments added 32 cents to finish at $3.45, in transferring 17,162,610 shares, Sagicor Group leaped $8.40, in exchanging 341,368 shares and closed at $52.40, Salada Foods finished at $29, advancing $4 and trading 20,327 units. Scotia Group closed $3.98 higher at $47.99, with 155,932 shares changing hands, Seprod added $4.50 to end at $47, in swapping 51,191 units, Stanley Motta gained $1.14 exchanging 16,615 units and closed at $5.75. Supreme Ventures shed 50 cents to end at $13, with 177,935 shares traded, Sygnus Credit Investments ended at $18, with gains of $1.40 transferring 154,566 shares, Victoria Mutual Investments exchanged 560,714 shares at $7, after picking up 55 cents and Wisynco Group closed $1.44 higher at $14.69 after trading 501,240 shares.

JSE Junior Market closes worse month ever

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Tuesday with the worse performance in its ten-year history. The market fell as much as 39.3 percent at one stage during the month and 45 percent from the peak in August last year, to record the worse decline in its history, from the peak to the bottom.  
At the close of trading for March, the Junior Market Index climbed 51.34 points to 2,304.14 to claw back 210 points in the last three days of the massive 818 points loss the market suffered on March 26. At the end of the month, the market shed 31 percent for the year to date after declining 21 percent for the month.
Market activities closed with 33 securities changing hands and resulting in the prices of 17 securities advancing, seven declining and nine closing unchanged and 14,255,673 units valued at $34,934,660 crossed the exchange compared to 8,601,172 units valued at $20,333,956 on Monday.
 Trading ended with an average of 431,990 units for $1,058,626 for each security traded, in contrast to 232,464 units, for an average of $549,566 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 226,225 units valued at $542,563 and previously 216,579 units valued at $508,797. Trading in February closed with an average of 167,673 units valued at $488,038 for each security traded.

Caribbean Flavours climbed $1.50 to settle at $10.50, with 60,122 shares changing hands, Caribbean Producers ended market activity exchanging 10,368,364 shares to close at $2.32, after falling 8 cents, Consolidated Bakeries fell 20 cents in trading of 99,000 units at $1.35. Elite Diagnostic rose 20 cents to close at $3.30, with 34,433 stock units changing hands, Everything Fresh climbed 17 cents exchanging 23,015 shares at 77 cents, Express Catering shed 5 cents in trading of 72,781 units at $3.13. Fontana closed 19 cents higher at $4.99, with 758,475 stock units trading, Fosrich ended trading with 19,700 shares, after rising 29 cents to end at $2.89. Honey Bun ended with 43,393 shares changing hands, after gaining 50 cents to close at $6.50, iCreate rose 1 cent and exchanged 400 shares at 51 cents, Indies Pharma closed 45 cents higher at $2.45, with 170,125 stock units changing hands, Iron Rock Insurance lost 45 cents in trading 10,658 shares to close at $3. KLE Group picked up 20 cents and exchanged just 880 shares at $1.45, Knutsford Express closed trading of a mere two units and gained 65 cents to end at $8.65. Lasco Financial closed trading of 98,998 units with gains of 40 cents to close at $2.95, Lasco Manufacturing closed trading of 119,295 units, after picking up 28 cents to finish at $3.18. Limners and Bards rose 22 cents and exchanged 131,091 shares at $2.28, Lumber Depot closed 3 cents higher at $1.18, with 21,273 stock units trading. MailPac traded 1,469,821 shares, after rising 9 cents to end at $1.69, Main Event gained 1 cent to close at $4.52, after 700 shares crossed the exchange, Paramount Trading declined by 4 cents to settle at $1.94, with 249 units changing hands.
