Trading activity dropped on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Thursday, with the volume of stocks traded diving 51 percent with the value jumping 40 percent compared to Wednesday. The market closed with 37 securities changing ownership compared with 41 on Wednesday and ending with prices of 12 advancing, 11 declining and 14 closing unchanged.
The market closed with trading of 11,731,854 shares for $80,157,352, down from 24,097,251 units at $57,354,315 on Wednesday.
Trading averaged 317,077 shares at $2,166,415 compared to 587,738 stocks at $1,398,886 on the prior day, with trading the month to date, averaging 339,903 stock units at $1,207,149 compared to 349,610 stocks at $799,185 on the previous day and March with an average of 307,021 shares at $759,432.
Fontana led trading with 8.13 million shares for 69.3 percent of the total volume, followed by ONE on ONE Educational with 1.01 million stock units for 8.6 percent of the day’s trade and Dolla Financial with 786,388 stocks for 6.7 percent of the volume traded.
At the close of trading, the Junior Market Index increased 7.76 points to close at 3,577.36. The Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows six stocks ending with bids higher than their last selling prices and three with lower offers.The Junior Market ended trading with an average PE Ratio of 14.3, based on last traded prices and projected earnings computed by ICInsider.com for financial years ending around August 2025.
At the close of the market, AMG Packaging popped 24 cents to finish at $3.04 with 4,501 shares clearing the market, Caribbean Cream slipped 20 cents to $2.30 with traders dealing in 2,119 stock units, Derrimon Trading sank 5 cents and ended at $1.90 with 6,021 shares crossing the market. Dolla Financial gained 13 cents to close at $2.73 with investors swapping 786,388 units, Elite Diagnostic dipped 19 cents in closing at $1.60 with 36,182 stocks crossing the exchange, Fontana rose 13 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $9.68 with investors dealing in 8,133,730 units. Indies Pharma fell 22 cents to $3.41 with 39,265 stocks being traded, Jamaican Teas climbed 15 cents to finish at $2.46 after an exchange of 10,639 shares, Jetcon Corporation declined 12 cents and ended at $1.06 with 27,728 stock units changing hands Knutsford Express increased 33 cents to close at $14.49 in trading 296 shares, Mailpac Group sank 10 cents to end at $2.38 with 8,514 stocks units crossing the market, Omni Industries shed 5 cents in closing at 86 cents in trading 437,330 units. Regency Petroleum advanced 44 cents to $3.39 with a transfer of 7,971 stocks and Spur Tree Spices dipped 5 cents to close at $1.30 as investors exchanged 42,912 shares.
