JSE main market sending positive signals

JSE Main Market suffered a sharp pullback from its peak but is still in an upward trajectory.

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main and US dollar markets resulted in stocks gaining outpacing declining ones almost two to one, to send a positive signal of the bottoming out of the markets.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index dived 4,326.14 points to close at 456,092.64, the JSE Market Index dropped 3,813.32 points to 415,475.46 and the JSE Financial Index lost 1.09 points to 114.78. The PE ratio of the market ended at 16.5, while the Main Market ended at 15.5 times 2019 earnings.
The market closed with 41 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 21 advancing, 13 declining and seven trading firm. Four stocks traded at 52 weeks’ intraday lows, including Carreras and Mayberry Investments and closed at a 52 weeks’ low. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 38 securities accounting for 27,349,052 units valued at $173,569,533 in contrast to 60,500,964 units valued at $170,953,012 from 41 securities on Wednesday.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 18 million shares for 66 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund trading 2.5 million shares for 9 percent and Supreme Ventures with 1.4 million shares for 5 percent market share. The only other stock trading more than 1 million units was Wisynco Group, with 1.1 million shares.
The Market closed with an average of 719,712 units valued at an average of $4,567,619 for each security traded, in contrast to 1,475,633 units valued at an average of $4,169,586 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 772,634 units valued at $4,772,738 for each security changing hands, compared to 778,055 units valued at $4,796,287 for each security traded. Trading in February resulted in an average of 624,731 units valued at $3,239,665 for each security.

Eppley gained 50 cents transferring 400 units to settle at $14, Grace Kennedy climbed $1.64 to end at $59.64, with an exchange of 98,591 shares, Jamaica Broilers gained $1 and closed at $27, after trading 77,551 units. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost $1.28 to close at $21.70, with 262,725 shares changing hands, JMMB Group ended 50 cents lower to $37.50, in transferring 293,675 stock units, Kingston Wharves climbed $2.45 trading 7,057 shares to close at $45.05. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy jumped $18 and ended at $148, trading 200 units, NCB Financial advanced $4.97 to $175, with a transfer of 125,582 shares, PanJam Investment tumbled $5 to $80, with 17,591 shares changing hands. Sagicor Group dropped $1 to finish at $57, after trading 227,486 shares, Sagicor Real Estate Fund slipped to 88 cents, with the swapping of 28,167 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $6.01, Scotia Group fell $1 to end at $50, after exchanging 389,765 shares. Seprod gained $2.55 to close at $44.50, with 109,882 shares changing hands, but only after the price hit a 52 weeks’ low of $35, Supreme Ventures closed at $18.50, with a loss of 50 cents transferring 1,419,961 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments closed at $18.49, after rising 49 cents trading 146,919 shares. Victoria Mutual Investments closed 75 cents higher to $7.95, transferring 391,775 units and Wisynco Group climbed $3.99 to end the day’s trade at $19.99 with 1,050,891 shares changing hands.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 84,961 units valued at over US$14,974. The market lost 0.24 points to close at 209.08. First Rock traded 60 units at 10 US cents, JMMB Group 6% preference share transferred 3,050 units at US$1 and Sygnus Credit Investments added 0.09 cent to end at 14.10 US cents, in exchanging 81,851 units.

7 JSE Main Market stocks hit 1 year low

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 47 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets, with the prices of 14 stocks advancing, 14 declining and 19 stocks trading firm, leading to moderate declines in the market indices after five companies’ stock closed at 52 weeks’ lows.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index declined by 1,576.07 points to close at 460,418.78, the JSE Market Index fell 1,540.81 points to 419,288.78 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.26 points to 115.87.
The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 60,500,964 units valued at $170,953,012 in contrast to 21,490,705 units valued at $169,613,509 from 44 securities on Tuesday.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 50.3 million shares for 83 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 3.2 million units for 5.3 percent of the day’s trade, and QWI Investments with 2.1 million units for 3.5 percent market share. The other stocks trading more than one million units are JMMB Group with 1.1 million shares and Wisynco Group with 1.07 million shares.
The Market closed with an average of 1,475,633 units valued at $4,169,586 for each security traded, in contrast to 537,268 units valued at an average of $4,240,338 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 786,535 units valued at $4,854,957 for each security changing hands compared to 699,869 units valued at $4,953,209 for each security traded. Trading in February resulted in an average of 624,731 units valued at $3,239,665 for each security.

JSE main market down again

There is no end in sight for the falling prices on the Jamaica Stock Exchange as investors sent the market indices down sharply by the close of trading on Tuesday.
The market closed with 48 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 18 stocks advancing, 18 declining and eight securities trading firm. At the close the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index plunged 17,178.04 points to close at 461,994.85, the JSE Market Index nose-dived by 15,605.81 points to 420,829.59 and the JSE Financial Index slid 4.64 points to 115.61.
The JSE Main Market activity ended with 44 securities accounting for 21,490,705 units valued at $169,613,510 in contrast to 28,292,088 units valued at $246,450,479 from 43 securities on Monday.
Kingston Properties led trading with 6 million shares for 28 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 4.8 million units for 22 percent of the day’s trade, and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 3.2 million units for 15 percent of the market’s volume.
The Market closed with an average of 488,425 units valued at an average of $3,854,852 for each security traded, in contrast to 657,956 units valued at an average of $5,731,406 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 691,386 units valued at $4,884,889 for each security changing hands compared to 722,611 units valued at $5,069,124 for each security traded. The Jamaica Stock Exchange recorded gains in the leading market indices on Monday but just barely dented the massive 55,391 points loss since the beginning of March. At the close the JSE, All Jamaican Composite Index, advancing 4,841.49 points to close at 479,172.89, the JSE Market Index climbed 4,382.37 points to 436,435.40, while the JSE Financial Index gained 2.13 points to 120.25.
The market closed with 47 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 13 stocks advancing, 27 declining and seven securities trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 43 securities accounting for 28,292,088 units valued at $246,450,479 in contrast to 28,587,236 units valued at $124,299,870 from 41 securities on Friday.
Sagicor Real Estate Fund led trading with 9.6 million shares for 34 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 9.5 million units for 33.7 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.7 million units for 9.5 percent market share.

The end may be in sight for JSE big losses

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange got clobbered again on Friday with investors slashing more than 7,000 points off the All Jamaican Composite Index, but the end may be in sight as the index hits support at the close.

Friday’s index loss brings the total for the week and month to date to 55,391 points or 10.5 percent. The decline for the year to date reached 15.3 percent while the market fell 110,366.3 points or 18.9 percent since peaking in August last year.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 7,274.07 points to close at 474,331.40, the JSE Market Index dived 6,632.94 points to 432,053.03 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.22 points to 118.11.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 9 advancing, 31 declining and five ending unchanged. At the close, three stocks closed at 52 weeks low, while three traded at 52 weeks’ intraday low.
The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 28,587,236 units for $124,299,870 in contrast to 58,534,158 units valued at $293,293,547.76 from 42 securities on Thursday.

Record 24,000 points plunge for JSE

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market suffered its worse daily fall in its near 51 year history with All Jamaican Composite Index plunging a massive 24,224.80 points to close at 481,605.47, the JSE Market Index nose-dived 21,798.25 points to 438,685.97. The JSE Financial Index slipped just 2.79 points to 118.33.

Thursday’s sharp fall brings the total decline for the week to 48,117 points or 9 percent and 56,657 points since February 21, making the loss 10.5 percent in just eight days and 14 percent for the year to date.
The market closed with 48 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 12 advancing, 26 declining and 10 trading firm. During trading, five stocks hit 52 weeks’ lows, but only one ended the trading session at the low. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting for 58,534,158 units for $293,293,548 in contrast to, 29,204,863 units valued at $241,250,894.58 from 40 securities on Wednesday.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 44.6 million shares for 76.3 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 5 million units for 8.6 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 2.1 million units for 3.5 percent of the market’s volume. QWI Investments with 1.5 million shares was the only other stock trading more than a million units.

In the US preferences section, JMMB Group 5.75% preference share gained 15 cents to close at US$2.15 while exchanging 1,500 units and JMMB Group 6% preference share lost 1 cent to end at 99 US cents, with an exchange of 1,950 shares.

JSE Main Market down 13% since August 2019

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market suffered more losses on Tuesday, bringing the loss for the Composite Index to 23,892 points in three days, with a fall of 9.6 percent since the start of the year and 13 percent from the peak of 584,697.71 on August 8, last year.  
The JSE All Jamaican Composite Index declined by 5,335.20 points to close at 505,830.27, the JSE Market Index dropped 4,832.90 points to 460,484.22 and the JSE Financial Index lost 1.47 points to 124.12.
The market closed with 41 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of eight advancing, 29 declining and four trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 40 securities accounting for 29,204,863 units valued at $241,250,895 in contrast to 29,930,856 units valued at $203,577,617 from 39 securities on Tuesday.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 14.1 million shares for 48.4 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 6.1 million units for 21 percent of the day’s trade and Wisynco Group with 2.1 million units for 7.2 percent of the market’s volume.
The Market closed with an average of 730,122 units valued at an average of $6,031,272 for each security traded, in contrast to 767,458 units valued at an average of $5,219,939 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 760,443 units valued at $4,858,004 for each security changing hands compared to 775,604 units valued at $4,172,370 for each security traded. JSE Main Market suffers biggest day’s drop

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Tuesday suffered the biggest fall of the market index in the JSE 50 year history as nervous investors cut 8.7 percent of the value of stocks since the commencement of the year.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index plunged 14,424.69 points to close at 511,165.47. The previous biggest fall in the JSE Composite index was 12,616.74 points on October 18, 2018. The JSE Market Index nose-dived 13,201.50 points to 465,317.12 and the JSE Financial Index dropped 3.55 points to 125.59.
The market closed with 44 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 15 advancing, 21 declining and 8 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 29,930,856 units valued at $203,577,617 in contrast to 32,117,425 units valued at $138,131,956 from 41 securities on Monday.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 11.1 million shares for 37 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 8.9 million units for 30 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 3.6 million units for 12 percent of the market’s volume. JSE Main Market ended trading with the second monthly decline for the year as the primary indices declined by almost 2,000 points on Friday, with the market down 5.4 percent for 2020 to date.

Wigton Windfarm dominated trading with 31.5 million shares for 51 percent of total volume, Sagicor Select Financial Fund followed with 8.25 million units for 13.3 percent of the day’s trade and Pulse Investments with 8.1 million units for 13 percent of the market’s volume.
