Main Market loses ground to close out week

Demand for stocks declined on Friday in trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, with the volume of stocks trading falling 48 percent and the value of stocks exchanged dropping 82 percent lower than Thursday’s market activity leading to a slight dip in the main market indices with the advancing stocks just edging out those declining.
The All Jamaican Composite Index shed 202.86 points to 454,479.33, the Main Index fell 257.00 points to 424,303.18 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.04 points to close 105.33.
Trading ended with 48 securities compared to 50 on Thursday, with 19 stocks rising, 18 declining and 11 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio closed with an average of 16.3 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The market closed with 13,537,949 shares trading for $85,630,782 down sharply from 26,264,484 units at $470,763,094 on Thursday. Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 38.9 percent of total volume for an exchange of 5.26 million shares, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 20.2 percent after 2.74 million units were traded and Pulse Investments with 7.3 percent for 988,208 shares changing hands.
Trading closed with an average of 282,041 units at $1,783,975, compared to 525,290 shares at $9,415,262 on Thursday. Trading month to date averages 320,145 units at $3,595,710, in contrast to 322,750 units at $3,719,589 on Thursday. Trading in April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

At the close, Berger Paints slipped $1.61 to $16.39 with the swapping of 5,003 shares, Caribbean Cement lost 42 cents to close at $87.50 with 4,856 units changing hands, Carreras ended 20 cents lower at $10.70 after crossing the exchange with 382,401 stocks. Eppley Caribbean Property Fund advanced $4.18 to close at $44.98 with the swapping of 1,700 units, Jamaica Broilers fell 80 cents to $34.70 in a transfer of 129,900 shares. Jamaica Producers lost 50 cents to close at $23, with 200,170 stocks crossing the market, Margaritaville lost 40 cents in closing at $14.60 trading 26,126 stock units, Mayberry Investments gained 20 cents to end at $5.50, with 196,336 shares changing hands. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy rose $2 to $102 in trading 5 stocks, NCB Financial Group shed 50 cents to end at $138.50 in a transfer of 46,041 units, 138 Student Living shed 49 cents to settle at $4.90 with 3,975 stock units changing hands, Pan Jam Investment climbed $5.55 to $71.60 after exchanging 86 stocks. Proven Investments fell 90 cents to $37 with the swapping of 61,769 units, Sagicor Group lost 30 cents to close at $52.70 in switching ownership of 21,793 stocks, Scotia Group gained 80 cents to end at $40.80 in exchanging 5,309 units. Seprod shed $1.50 to close at $73.50 with an exchange of 44,685 stock units, Supreme Ventures rose $1.55 to close at $21.75 in trading 98,472 stocks and Sygnus Credit Investments gained 40 cents to finish at $15.61 after exchanging 313,497 stocks.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.75% preference share fell 99 cents to close at $6.51 with a transfer of 347 shares.

JSE Main market bounces back

Market activity ended on Thursday, with the market recovering almost all of the losses of the previous two days after advancing stocks edged out declining ones, with the overall traded volume and value climbing 211 percent and 357 percent respectively compared to Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 3,237.08 points to 454,682.19, the Main Index advanced 2,716.72 points to 424,560.18, and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.97 points to settle at 105.37.
Trading ended with 50 securities compared to 47 on Wednesday, with 18 stocks rising, 16 declining and 16 remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com’s 2021-22 forecast of earnings, is 16.1.

At the close 26,264,484 shares traded for $470,763,094 versus 8,440,224 units at $102,931,227 on Wednesday. JMMB Group 7.25% led trading with 33.9 percent of total volume for 8.91 million shares followed by Sagicor Group with 27.6 percent in trading 7.25 million units, Sagicor Select Financial Fund 13.6 percent, with 3.58 million units, Pulse Investments with 5.2 percent for 1.37 million units and Transjamaican Highway with 3.9 percent for an exchange of 1.04 million shares.
Trading averaged 505,086 units at $9,053,136, compared to 179,579 shares at $2,190,026 on Wednesday. Trading month to date averages 321,833 units at $3,709,022, compared to 307,218 units at $3,282,804 on Wednesday. April averaged 234,200 units at $1,772,561.

JSE Main Market in turbulent zone

Just below 460,000 points is proving to be a turbulent area for the Main Market on Tuesday after coming close during the morning session at 459,212 points the index of locally based Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market stocks pulled back sharply at the close. In today’s trading, the market moved up to 456,129 points but again failed to hold onto early gains and closed with the market index slipping from Tuesday close.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index declined 2,953.62 points to close tab 451,445.11, the Main Index shed 2,482.03 points to 421,843.46 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.98 points to settle at 104.40.
Trading ended with 47 securities, down from 52 on Tuesday, with 20 stocks rising, 22 declining and five remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings averages 16.
The market closed with 8,440,224 shares trading for $102,931,227 versus 11,779,992 units at $110,710,765 on Tuesday. Transjamaican Highway led trading with 18.5 percent of total volume for an exchange of 1.56 million shares followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund 17 percent, with 1.43 million units and Pulse Investments with 15.7 percent after trading 1.33 million units.

Guardian knocks JSE Main Index

Market activity ended on Tuesday with the market indices all declining, but the JSE Main Index sustaining the greater loss of 6,266.26 points to close at 424,325.49, with Guardian Holdings dropping $110, with NCB Global announcing on Monday the offer of 2 million shares to the public at $795 each. Trading ended after an exchange of 31 percent fewer shares valued 30 percent less than on Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.

Guardian Holdings hits the lowest price on the JSE on Tuesday.

JSE Main Market in resistance territory

Market activity pushed the All Jamaican Composite Index up 4,686 points in the early morning session to just over 456,400 points and close to resistance level on Monday and the market managed to hold on 3,056.45 points at the close to end at 454,770.11, on the Main Market of Jamaica Stock Exchange, at the same time, the Main Index rose 2,576.48 points to 430,591.75, and the JSE Financial Index gained 1.14 points to settle at 108.27.
At the close, 51 securities traded, up from 49 on Friday, with 20 rising, 23 declining and eight ending unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 16.2 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2021-22 earnings.
The volume and values of shares traded, fell 46 percent and 48 percent respectively compared to Friday levels, as 17,166,156 shares changed hands for $158,866,078 versus 31,695,926 units at $306,013,533 on Friday. Main market retreats from robust early gains

Stocks trading climbed sharply on Friday with an exchange of 118 percent more shares valued 268 percent more than in Thursday trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market. The All Jamaican Composite Index just managed to squeeze out a gain of 87.75 points to close at 451,713.66 after it traded up close to 6,000 points to a high of 457,408.33 within an hour of the market’s opening.  

JSE All Jamaica Composite Index heading for the top of the upward sloping channel top at 460,000 points and could face resistance there.

The JSE Main Index rose 581.22 points to settle at 428,015.27 and The JSE Financial Index gained 0.24 points to end at 107.13.

JSE Main market rises to 14 months high

Rising stocks pushed the market indices higher on Thursday to end with the All Jamaican Composite Index at the highest level since the middle of March last year as the market continues to move higher in recovering the big losses in 2020.  At the close, the volume traded rose 18 percent, but the value dropped 46 percent on Wednesday levels on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
The All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 1,110.77 points to 451,625.91, the Main Index rose 732.14 points to 427,434.05, and the JSE Financial Index inched 0.15 points up to settle at 106.89.
Trading ended with 47 securities compared to 53 on Wednesday and closed with prices of 17 stocks rising, 23 declining and seven remaining unchanged.

The All Jamaican Composite Index closed above the 450,000 points level for the first time since March 13 last year when it advanced 780.41 points to close at 450,515.14, on Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with an exchange of 119 percent more shares valued 339 percent higher than in trading on Tuesday.
The JSE Main Index gained 314.36 points to 426,701.91 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.05 points to settle at 106.74.
A total of 53 securities traded compared to 54 on Tuesday, with 21 stocks rising, 23 declining and nine remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio, based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2021-22 earnings, averages 16.4.
The market closed with 12,295,253 shares trading for $154,483,246 compared to 5,625,284 units at $35,183,198 on Tuesday. Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund led trading with 25.1 percent of total volume after an exchange of 3.09 million shares followed by Sagicor Group 18.5 percent with 2.28 million units, Transjamaican Highway with 15.5 percent, with 1.9 million units and Wigton Windfarm with 14 percent after 1.73 million units changed hands.
