17 new highs for JSE stocks on Thursday

Scotia Group was one of 17 stocks to close at a 52 weeks’ high on Thursday.

Bulls pushed the stock market hard on Thursday, with the all market indices surging to new record highs on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 17 securities ending at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The market closed Thursday, as 48 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 26 stocks rising and 12 falling, including 16 stocks gaining and 3 declining, in the junior market.
The All Jamaica Composite Index surged 7,266.97 points to close at record 256,749.20, the JSE Market Index jumped 6,497.96 points to finish at record close of 227,455.97 and the JSE combined index climbed sharply by 6,919.27 points, to close at new closing high of 248,994.38. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 22.2 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index, with the JSE Market Index up 18.7 percent. The moves in the indices are subject to change as the stock exchange daily postings indicate that there are errors in the reports since the new trading system was activated on Monday.

At the close, 13,502,301 units valued at $265,917,085 changed hands, compared to $146,199,269 units valued at $265,917,085 changing hands on Wednesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 7,916,160 units valued at over $42,290,565.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 200,657 shares compared to an average of 355,210 units on Wednesday. For the month to date, an average of 188,419 shares traded compared to an average of 176,182 units up to the prior trading day. January ended with an average of 592,602 units.

26 JSE stocks rise & 11 fall – Wednesday

Jamaica Stock Exchange jumped to a 52 weeks’ high of $12 on Wednesday.

Stocks climbed more moderately on Wednesday to new record high on the Jamaica Stock Exchange than it did on Tuesday, in continuation of a comfortable ride to 265,000 points mark, the next area of potential major resistance for Jamaica’s main market.
The market closed Wednesday, as 49 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 26 stocks rising and 11 falling, including 16 stocks gaining and 3 declining, in the junior market while 14 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index gained 714.88 points to close at record 249,482.23, the JSE Market Index rose 639.22 points to finish at record close of 227,455.97 and the JSE combined index increased by 601.83 points, to close at new closing high of 242,075.11. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 18.5 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index, with the JSE Market Index up 18.7 percent. The moves in the indices are subject to change as the stock exchange daily postings indicate that there are errors in the reports since the new trading system was activated on Monday.
At the close, 20,631,314 units valued at $265,917,085 changed hands, compared to 10,455,555 units valued at $80,043,145 changing hands on Tuesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 11,553,647 units, valued at $90,755,608.

Scotia Investments gained 50 cents, after trading 3,000 units and closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $36. Supreme Ventures lost 20 cents to close at $5.50 with 100,349 shares traded, Proven Investments traded 552,539 ordinary shares to close at 31 US cents, after trading at a 52 weeks’ intraday high of 35 US cents, JMMB Group 7.5% preference share, closed at $1.10 with 90,600 units being exchanged and JPS 9.5 preference share traded 33,242 units at $1,276.50 after falling by $6.50.

JSE blast past resistance on Tuesday

Stocks jump to new records in trading on Tuesday with the All Jamaica Composite Index blasting pass resistance around the 243,000 level in decisive fashion. The market should have a comfortable rise to 265,000 points mark, the next area of resistance.
The market closed on Tuesday, as 51 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 27 stocks rising and 13 falling, including 11 stocks gaining and 7 declining, in the junior market while 9 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The All Jamaica Composite Index jumped 5,829.59 points to close at record 248,767.35, the JSE Market Index climbed 5,212.68 points to finish at record close of 226,816.75 and the JSE combined index shot up by 5,336.51 points, to close at new closing high of 241,473.28. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 18.4 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index, with the JSE Market Index up 18 percent.

The stock markets in Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados switch over trading to a new electronic trading platform on Monday and seem to have negatively affected trading levels in Jamaica as brokers get comfortable with it, even as the South African developers have staff in Kingston trying to resolve issues on the spot.
The end result is that trading reports were late and included errors some of which were sorted out and some have not. The market closed on Monday, as 42 securities changed hands in the overall market, ending with 19 stocks rising and 8 falling, including 6 stocks gaining and 2 declining, in the junior market while 5 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
All major market indices rose moderately compared with the sharp increase for the past 7 trading days. The all All Jamaica Composite Index jumping 2,645.20 points to close at record 242,937.76, the JSE Market Index climbed 2,365.27 points to finish at record close of 221,604.07 and the JSE combined index grew 2,425.63 points, to close at new closing high of 236,136.77. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 15.6 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange enjoyed another day of big gains on Thursday, as 50 securities changed hands in the overall market and ended with 29 stocks rising and 15 falling, including 12 stocks gaining and 2 declining, in the junior market.
At the close 12 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs and 2 trading at an intraday high.
All major market indices jumped sharply, with the all All Jamaica Composite Index surging 4,106.35 points to close at 240,039.46, the JSE Market Index climbed sharply by 3,671.80 points to finish at 219,012.48 and the JSE combined index jumped 3,678.17 points, to close at 232,813.53. NCB & Scotia push Jamaican stocks hard

NCB jumped to a record high of $65 during trading on Wednesday.

Continued strong gains of National Commercial Bank and lesser gains in Scotia Group exerted upward pressure on stocks values, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Tuesday as 50 securities changed hands, 7 more than on Monday, both stocks traded at record prices during the day.
Overall market activity, ended with 22 stocks rising and 14 falling, including 12 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market. At the close 4 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs and 6 trading at an intraday high while one traded, at an intraday 52 weeks’ low.
All major market indices jumped sharply, with the all All Jamaica Composite Index surging 3,907.49 points to close at 235,933.11, the JSE Market Index climbed sharply by 3,493.98 points to finish at 215,340.68 and the JSE combined index jumped 3,495.03 points, to close at 229,135.36. The movement of the main market, for the year to date, resulted to gains of 12.3 percent, for the all Jamaica Composite Index.
At the close, 10,945,066 units valued at $162,330,186 changed hands, compared to 15,833,084 units valued at $518,190,757 changing hands on Tuesday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 2,831,925 units valued at $14,341,956.

The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 279,763 shares compared to an average of 384,180 units on Tuesday. January ended with an average of 592,602 units.

In market activity, Barita Investments gained 50 cents to close at $6.50 with 47,891 units changing hands, Berger Paints declined 45 cents and closing at $11.05 after trading 26,638 shares, Cable and Wireless lost 4 cents trading 513,643 units at $1.15, Caribbean Cement closed at $33.02 with an exchange of 26,700 shares. Carreras closed lower at $62.50, losing $4.25 with 569,635 units changing hands, the stock traded at a 52 weeks’ low of $60, earlier in the day, 1834 Investments lost 5 cents to close at $1.45 after trading 26,648 shares, Grace Kennedy had 18,034 units trading at $40, for a loss of 50 cents. Jamaica Broilers lost 10 cents to close at $15.30 with 78,129 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers traded 51,690 shares, rising $1.50 to end at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $15, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $5.60 trading 573,360 shares, JMMB Group closed at $16.89, with a loss of 1 cent as 129,066 units traded. Kingston Wharves lost $1, ending at $32.99 and trades of 2,112 units, Margaritaville traded 52,619 shares at 27 US cents, Mayberry Investments gained 35 cents to close at $5.50 with 508,060 shares exchanged, after trading at an intraday high of $5.75, National Commercial Bank rose to a 52 weeks’ closing high of $64.99, after gaining $3.49 and swapping 76,727 shares.

Pan Jamaican lost 50 cents and closed at $30.50 with 20,195 units exchanged, Portland JSX traded 7,500 units with gains of 10 cents to close at $9.10, Pulse Investments gained 5 cents to close at $6 in trading 15,750 units, Radio Jamaica closed at $1.30 with 84,170 shares traded. Sagicor Group closed with 55,950 shares changing hands with a loss of 40 cents at $30.10 after it traded earlier at an intraday high of $31, Sagicor Real Estate fund gained 22 cents, closing at $10.22 and trading 14,328 units, Scotia Group ended trading at $38.61, gaining 61 cents with 771,110 shares changing hands. Scotia traded at an intraday high of $40. Scotia Investments also traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $34.94 but closed trading with 980,950 units while losing $1.02, to close at $32, Sterling Investments closed at $15.60 with trades of 70,850 units, Supreme Ventures gained 20 cents after trading 1,790,979 shares to close at $5.30, Proven Investments traded 500,825 ordinary shares, adding 1 cent to close at a 52 weeks; high of 24 US cents and JMMB Group 7.5% preference share traded 1,090,382 units at $1.10.

Stock stampede slows in Jamaica

NCB hits a new high of $63.20 on Tuesday in trading on the JSE.

Stock broker, NCB Capital Markets crossed 7,280,711 National Commercial Bank at $61.50, pushing the value of trading by nearly $448 million while Cable & Wireless chipped in with 4,711,717 shares valued at $5.6 million.
At the close, 15,833,084 units valued at $518,190,757 changed hands, compared to 12,789,852 units valued at $79,186,131 changing hands on Monday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 1,610,629 units valued at $10,783,120.
At the close the all All Jamaica Composite Index rose 1,972.56 points to close at 232,026.62, the JSE Market Index rose 1,763.82 points to finish at 211,846.70 and the JSE combined index climbed 1,722.77 points, to close at 225,640.33.
The movement of the main market in the last 4 trading days, lifted the gains to 10 percent for January, after starting the year with moderate gains of 2.7 percent, up to Wednesday last week.
The market closed with 43 securities changing hands, with 18 stocks rising and 15 falling in the overall market, including 7 stocks rising and 9 falling, in the junior market. At the close 5 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.

Jamaica Producers traded 309,026 shares, rising 44 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $13.50, after trading as high as $15 in early trading, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $5.60 having traded 69,397 shares, JMMB Group closed at $16.90 with 129,575 units traded. Kingston Wharves advanced 99 cents, ending at $33.99 and trades of 45,268 units, Mayberry Investments traded 12,219 shares with gains of 15 cents to close at $5.15, National Commercial Bank rose to a 52 weeks’ closing high of $61.50, after gaining $1.50 after and swapping 7,498,281 shares, NCB traded as high as $63.20 in the morning session.

Pan Jamaican gained $1 and closed at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $31 with 90,681 units being exchanged, Pulse Investments traded 8,000 units, losing 5 cents to close at $5.95, Radio Jamaica lost 5 cents, closing at $1.30 with 73,828 shares traded, Sagicor Group closed with 22,947 shares changing hands with a gain of 50 cents at $30.50. Sagicor Real Estate fund traded 49,769 units and closed at $10, Scotia Group ended trading at $38, losing $1 with 30,863 shares changing hands. Scotia Investments traded 3,849 units, gaining 2 cents to close at $33.02, Sterling Investments closed at $15.60 with trades of 23,000 units, Supreme Ventures lost 11 cents after trading 700,304 shares to close at $5.10 and Proven Investments traded 12,450 ordinary shares and closed at 23 US cents.

Bulls stampeding Jamaican stocks

Stock prices followed Friday’s surge on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Monday, moving the market higher, with gains of 9.5 percent for the year to date, after the main market started the year with moderate gains.
The movement over the past three trading days has brought the gains in the market in line with the junior market that previously had gains that were 3 times that of the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market.
At the close, the all All Jamaica Composite Index leapt 3,931.57 points to close at 230,053.06, the JSE Market Index surged 3,515.51 points to finish at 210,082.88 and the JSE combined index climbed sharply by 3,283.99 points, to close at 223,917.56.
Trading resulted in 12,789,852 units valued at $79,186,131 changing hands, compared to 2,882,798 units valued at $55,189,818 changing hands on Friday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 426,481 units valued at $2,702,243.
The market closed with 42 securities changing hands, with 24 stocks rising and 9 falling in the overall market, including 10 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market. A total of 8 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 149,740 shares compared to an average of 111,605 units traded on Friday. For the month to date, an average of 175,757 shares compared to an average of 201,775 units on the previous trading day. The average for the month of December ended at 549,379 units.

Jamaica Producers traded 7,647 shares, rising 56 cents to end a new closing high of $13.06, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $5.60 having traded 178,916 shares, JMMB Group climbed to a 52 weeks’ closing high of $16.90 with gains of 90 cents and 8,633 units trade. Kingston Wharves retreated slightly from the rarefied heights to end trading 4,625 units and losing $1, to close at $33, Mayberry Investments traded 1,020 shares with a loss of 25 cents to close at $5, National Commercial Bank climbed higher at a 52 weeks’ high of $60, gaining $2 after swapping 61,840 shares. Pan Jamaican gained 10 cents and closed at $30 with 27,659 units being exchanged, Portland JSX closed at $9 with 10,000 units trading. Pulse Investments traded 12,500 units, gaining 83 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $6.00, Radio Jamaica rose 5 cents, closing at $1.35 with 27,693 shares traded, Sagicor Group closed with 112,763 shares changing hands with a gain of 99 cents at $30. Sagicor Real Estate fund traded 12,627 units and closed at $10, Salada closed at $8 having traded 148,787 shares, Scotia Group ended with 9,771 shares changing hands at $39. Scotia Investments traded 14,891 units, losing 49 cents to close at $33, Sterling Investments lost 15 cents to close at $15.60 after trading 124,700 units, Supreme Ventures traded 11,259,836 shares and closed at $5.21 and Proven Investments traded 15,300 ordinary shares to close at 23 US cents.

Bulls pushing Jamaican stock to new highs almost daily for 2017.

Prices surged on the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday resulted in the daily highest points gain in history of the market.
The huge move was the result mainly of sharp gains in the prices of National Commercial Bank, Scotia Group, Kingston Wharves, Jamaica Producers Group. It was a day when both the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange and the junior market closed at record levels as the bull market which had its genesis in late 2014, continues to build momentum with the supply of stocks on the wane, while demand builds.
At the close, the All Jamaica Composite Index jumped sharply by 9,082.60 points, to close at 226,121.49, the JSE Market Index surged 8,121.44 points to finish at 206,567.37 and the JSE combined index climbed 7,716.24 points to close at 220,633.57.
For the consecutive trading day, volume going through the market was moderate, with less than $100 million of trading. At the close, 2,882,798 units valued at $55,189,818 changed hands, compared to 3,687,829 units valued at $80,933,897 changing hands on Thursday. Of the stocks traded, the junior market accounted for 204,282 units valued at $1,106,948.
The market closed with 42 securities changing hands, with 24 stocks rising and 9 falling in the overall market, including 10 stocks rising and 2 falling, in the junior market. A total of 8 securities ended at new 52 weeks’ closing highs.
The average trade for the day in the main market, ended at 111,605 shares, compared to an average of 116,490 units traded on Thursday. Jamaica Producers traded 27,986 shares after rising by $1 to end at a new high of $12.50, Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 10 cents to close at $5.60, having traded 127,613 shares, JMMB Group jumped to a new closing 52 weeks’ high of $16 in trading 27,146 units, after rising by 50 cents. Kingston Wharves jumped sharply by $6.25, to end trading with 6,500 units and closed at 52 weeks’ high of $34, Mayberry Investments traded 500,000 shares with gains of 25 cents, to close at $5.25, National Commercial Bank surged $5.98 to close at an all-time high of $58 after swapping 38,550 shares. 138 Student Living traded 100,000 units at $4.50, Pan Jamaican shed 10 cents and closed at $29.90, with 765,562 units traded, Portland JSX closed at $9 while trading 6,000 units, Pulse Investments traded 42,700 units, falling 13 cents to close at $5.17 after it traded at an intraday high of $5.65. Radio Jamaica lost 5 cents, closing at $1.30 with 35,778 shares traded, Sagicor Group closed with 8,935 shares changing hands, with a fall of 99 cents to $19.01, Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 50 cents in trading 9,333 units and closed at $10. Scotia Group, with 470,682 shares changing hands jumped $2.89 cents to a 52 weeks’ closing high of $39. Supreme Ventures gained 11 cents in trading 39,240 shares to close at $5.21 and JMMB Group 7.50% preference shares traded 200,000 units to close at $1.10.
