JSE majors in month end jump – Wednesday

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed the last day of the month on a high note with the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index rising 1,154.95 points to 321,207.65 and the JSE Index advancing by 1,052.29 points to 292,656.49, in what has become a usual month end rally.
Trading on Wednesday closed 28 securities changing hands with 12 advancing, 8 declining and 8 trading firm, in the main and US dollar markets.
The securities with the largest price changes include, Berger Paints ending with a gain of $1.50 to $20, Caribbean Cement rising $1 to $36, JMMB Group up by $1 to $26, NCB Financial Group traded 95 cents higher at $100, Salada Foods with a gain of $1 higher to $11.50, Wisynco Group settling at $1.19 higher to $11.49 and Scotia Group lost $1 to close at $52. Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded at an intraday all-time high of $17 but closed at $16 and JMMB Group 7.5% preference share closed a 52 weeks’ low of 85 cents.
Main market activity ended with 8,204,593 units valued at $66,110,510 compared to 8,204,593 units valued at $155,870,781 on Wednesday. Wisynco Group accounted for 60.5 percent of the total volume traded in the with 3,266,124 stock units followed by Ciboney Group with 658,995 units or 12.2 percent and Caribbean Cement with 359,865 shares.
Trading results in an average of 200,080 shares valued at $2,448,537 for each security traded, in contrast to 282,917 shares valued at $5,374,855 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 213,336 units valued at $3,392,475 and previously, 214,033 units valued at $3,445,024. In contrast, January closed with average of 349,084 units at an average of $5,801,440 for each security traded.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading shows 9 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with lower offers.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with Productivity Business trading 5,000 shares and rose 2 cents to close at 60 US cents with a value of US$3,000 as the market index rose 1.84 points to 172.55.

JSE main market enjoyed big bounce

Bulls may be lurching to pounce on Jamaican stocks.

Trading on the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended on Wednesday with JSE All Jamaican Composite Index increased by 2,161.69 points to 320,034.56 and the JSE Index advanced by 1,969.54 points to 291,587.67.
Trading ended on Tuesday with 9 stocks advancing, 6 declining and 11 trading firm.
The securities with the largest price changes include, Caribbean Cement settled $3.80 higher at $35, Salada Foods traded $1 higher at $12, Seprod closing 99 cents higher at $29.99 and Sterling Investments rising $2.74 higher to $12.05.
Market activity ended with 20,208,278 shares valued at $255,279,222 in contrast to 2,910,640 shares valued at $68,467,853 on Tuesday.
Wisynco Group was the leading security trading with 16,421,906 units accounting for 81.26 percent of share traded, followed by Caribbean Cement with 1,663,767 units or 8.2 percent and Ciboney Group with 791,013 units or 3.91 percent of total volume traded.
December closed with average of 777,241 shares valued at $9,818,432 for each security traded, in contrast to 111,948 units for an average of $2,633,379 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 215,943 units valued at $3,334,894 and previously, 176,923 units valued at $2,847,692. In contrast, January closed with average of 349,084 units at an average of $5,801,440 for each security traded.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading shows 9 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and 3 with lower offers.
Traded in the US dollar market ended with Productivity Business finished unchanged at 56 US cents with 54,799 shares and Proven Investments traded 544,500 units at 21.99 US cents down from 22 US cents before. Total trading in the US market came to US$150,012 as the market index inched higher by 0.18 points to 168.78.

GWest IPO is here

The initial Public Offer (IPO) of shares in the Montego Bay based GWest Corporation is now out with 169.7 million shares offered for sale at $2.50 each. The offer opens on December 7 and is scheduled to close on December 21.
With FosRich and Wisynco opening next week as well it could result in record of 4 IPOs being opened within the same week on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. During July, Express Catering opening on July 12, Stationery and Office Supplies that opened on July 19, Proven Investments with a rights issue opened on July 3, Productivity Business Solutions with an ordinary share issue and a preference share issue that opened on July 5.
GWest offer includes 36,000,000 Shares reserved for the lead broker, JMMB Securities or its clients, 64,000,000 Shares reserved for Jamaica Money Market Brokers’ Pension and Client Funds Investment Management Unit. 19,400,000 Shares are for GWest clients and suppliers and 600,000 Shares for independent directors, the Mentor and employees of the Company. This leaves 69.7 million shares for applications by the general public. If any of the Reserved Shares in any category are not subscribed by the persons entitled to them, they will be made available for subscription by the general public.

The primary purpose of the Company is to provide integrated medical health care services and facilities. The Company established 5 medical businesses under the common “GWest Medical” brand. The Company will be providing the following medical services to complement those offered by owners and lessees in the GWest Centre:
1. General Practitioner and Specialist Suite (operational since June 2017)
2. A 2,200 square feet Urgent Care Centre (operational since November 2017)
3. Medical Laboratory (to be opened by January 2018)
4. A 5,000 square feet 8-Bed Inpatient Unit (to be opened by September 2018)
5. In addition, its 100% subsidiary company GWest Surgery Centre Limited will own and operate an 8,500 square feet Outpatient Surgery Centre (to be opened September 2018), including two modern operating theatres and two procedure rooms.
The Company has approximately 18,111 square feet of space leased to tenants for periods of 3 to 10 years with lease rates denominated in United States currency, ranging from US$20 to US$22 per square feet. The lease payments are subject to annual increases at a rate of up to 0.5% per annum.

The shares are really based of forecast which are vastly different than the historical results. For the year to March 2017 profit reported was $181 million but it includes a large gain on revaluation of the unsold property, amounting to $205 million. The profit was mainly based on income of sale of property. A loss of $29 million was made in the six months to September and for the full year to March 2018 a loss of $111 million is projected, swinging sharply to a profit of $166 million in 2019 and $388 million in 2020 as revenues rise from an estimated $158 million in 2018 to $803 million in 2019 to $1.2 billion in 2020.
Net book value is just $287 million, representing 324,848,485 shares, with net book value of just 88 cents per share, the stock is priced at 3 times book value which can be considered high for a company yet to start showing profit from ongoing operations. The stock is also priced at a high PE of nearly 7.5 times projected 2019 earnings which is way above most other stocks in the market, with a renowned operating track record.

The main market the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed higher on Thursday with the All Jamaica Composite Index jumping 2,646.72 points to a record close at 293,186.46, the JSE Market Index climbed 2,411.46 points to record close of 267,126.05 after trading much higher in the morning session.
The sharp rise was due primarily to gains in Scotia Group as the advance decline ratio was a negative 3 to 1.
In market activity, the volume of securities trading with their last prices are: Barita Investments with a loss of $1, closed at $8 with 18,827 shares, Berger Paints falling 40 cents to close at $12.10 with 137,727 stock units, Cable and Wireless with a loss of 3 cents, to $1.03 with 686,724 shares. Scotia stars again

Scotia Group remains the star performer on the Jamaica Stock Exchange and is almost the sole stock resulting in the main market hitting new record highs in the past two weeks.
Although the stock traded at $57.99 with a gain of nearly $3 and the advance decline ratio was strongly positive, the market indices slipped at the close on Wednesday.

Broilers dominates Monday’s trading

Trading activity rose on Monday in the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange with 9,375,844 units valued at $169,350,761 changing hands, but one stock, Jamaica Broilers dominated trading, accounting for 7.49 million units and 80 percent of the volume traded.
Three stocks ended trading at record closing prices as demand grows for a selective group of companies.
At the close of the market the volume of stocks changing hands and their last traded price are: Barita Investments with gains of $2.15 and closing trading $10.25 with 45,000 units changing hands, Berger Paints closed 90 cents higher to $11.50 with 2,600 shares, Cable and Wireless gained 3 cents in closing at $1.08 with 142,022 shares, Caribbean Cement ending with a loss of 50 cents, to $26.50 with 499,169 units. Carreras closed at $107.55, losing 45 cents with 18,336 stock units, Grace Kennedy with a loss of 80 cents, closed at $41.20 with 9,576 shares. Finance companies blast JSE indices

Sagiocr Group was one of the big contributors to the JSE rise on Friday with a rise of $2.30.

The main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange started trading for September in a very bullish mode and closed the day with a huge jump in the market indices, thanks to 2 to 1 advance decline ratio, but more so by movements in the three large capitalisation stocks, NCB Financial, Sagicor Group and Scotia Group.
The All Jamaica Composite Index surged 8,689.74 points, at the close of trading the third highest in the markets history and the JSE Market Index climbed 7,917.33 points. The market sits just under a major resistance level at 290,000 points on the All Jamaica Composite Index, a meaningful break out this coming week could open the market up for a huge rally for the balance of the year.
At the close of market activity, the volume of stocks changing hands and their last traded price are Barita Investments with gains of 5 cents to end at $8.10 with 9,501 shares, Berger Paints closed $2.50 lower to $10.60 with 30,378 shares as investors responded negatively to the buyout offer for the minority shareholdings while ignoring the fundamentals of the company. Cable and Wireless gained 5 cents, closing at $1.05 with 18,094 shares, Caribbean Cement traded 40,150 shares at $27, Carreras closed at $108 with 30,352 stock units, Ciboney exchanged just 200 shares at 17 cents, Grace Kennedy added 2 cents to close at $42 with 14,115 shares. Newly listed Productive Business Solutions US ordinary shares rose 5 cents and closed at a record 60 US cents while trading just 100 units, Proven Investments US ordinary share closed at 24 US cents with 14,100 units, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share traded 45,100 units at $2 and JMMB Group 7.5% preference share gained 1 cent to close at $1.16 with 34,643 units.

Major end of month JSE moves

Supreme Ventures closed at record high of $12 on Thursday.

In an active day of market activities, 29 securities traded with Scotia Group hitting a record high of $50 ahead of the third quarter results due for release within a week and Supreme Ventures (SVL) closed at a high of $12 on the Jamaica Stock Exchange
Investors continue to respond positively to SVL half year results that rose 41 percent but Sterling Investments dropped to a 52 weeks’ low of $12.75.
Elsewhere in the main market overvalued Jamaica Producers traded 1,082,752 shares to close at $15.99 after adding 5 cents and 138 Student Living gained 30 cents to close at $5.45 with 1,589,048 shares. Productive Business Solutions that went to the public to raise fresh capital had the US dollar ordinary shares and the preference shares were listed at the start of the day but there was no trading in them.

PBS shares were listed on Thursday.

At the close of the market, the volume of securities trading and their last traded price are, Barita Investments with a loss of 95 cents, closed at $8.05 with 20,000 shares, with investors interest wanes pending the announcement of the offer to acquire to acquire majority shares. Berger Paints closed $2.70 lower to $13.10 with 99,115 shares, after the new majority owner released an underwhelming of $10.88 before trading cost, to acquire the minority shares. Cable and Wireless closed at $1 with 415,972 shares, Caribbean Cement traded $2 lower to $27 with 33,000 shares, Carreras shed 50 cents to $108 with 50,214 shares, Grace Kennedy added 48 cents to close at $41.98 with 21,669 shares. Jamaica Broilers gained 80 cents, to end at $19 with 132,533 shares, Jamaica Stock Exchange dipped 50 cents to $5.85, with 16,413 shares, JMMB Group rose 5 cents and closed at $21 with 64,023 shares. Kingston Properties closed at $7.20, in losing 30 cents with 12,000 shares,Kingston Wharves traded $1.15 lower to $30.85 with 16,437 stock units, Mayberry Investments lost 10 cents, in closing at $4.50 with 121,180 shares, NCB Financial Group climbed $1.44 to close at $88.99 with 215,240 shares, 1834 Investments exchanged 1,200 shares at $1.30, PanJam Investment ended with a loss of $2.49 at $32.01 with 44,860 shares.

Pulse Investments gained 4 cents, closing at $1.99 with 4,826 shares, Radio Jamaica closed at $1.22 with 1,000 shares, Sagicor Group closed at $31.80 with gains of 20 cents trading 44,472 units, Sagicor Real Estate fund ended at $12.05, after gaining 5 cents with 500 shares, Salada Foods dropped $2 to $8 with 100,000 shares, Scotia Group advanced $3 to $50 with 75,994 shares, Scotia Investments eased 1 cent to $35.50 with 200 shares, Seprod traded 2,500 shares at $33, Sterling Investments declined $1.25 to $12.75 with 2,000 shares, Supreme Ventures closed at $12, gaining $1.01 with 114,906 shares. Margaritaville Turks US ordinary shares closed at 30 US cents with 1,000 units, Proven Investments US ordinary shares closed at 24 US cents with 51,749 units, Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.5% preference share with gains of 15 cents, closed at $2 with 745,140 units and Proven 8.25% cumulative redeemable preference share gained 40 cents to close at $5.50 with 21,000 units.

Over US$5,500 shares for PBS investors

Investors in the recent public offer of Productive Business Solutions’ ordinary shares, will end up receiving the bulk of what they applied for, with the minimum of shares allocated worth the equivalent of J$700,000.
A release from the brokers for the issue, NCB Capital Markets, advised that the basis of allocation resulted in all the Reserve Shares allocated to Portland Private Equity Funds with full allotment up to US$15,000,000, the PBS Employees, will receive full allotment up to US$4,000,000 and subscribers from the general public will receive allotment up to US$5,500 and any amount in excess of this amount will be pro-rated. The release did not state the rate of pro-rating the balance.
The lowest amount allocated for full allocation is equivalents to 10,000 shares and would mean that applications from the general public would be over 450 applicants, coming from 4.55 million shares that were allocated to the general public. PBS therefore raised the full US$41.5 million offered from the issue of ordinary shares at 55 US cents each.
PBS reported revenues rose of US$42.45 million for the March 2017 quarter up from US$39.32 million in 2016, with profit rising to US$838,000 before taxation of US$389,000 from a loss the year before. According to the prospectus, the stock is slated to list on the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market and the Barbados Stock Exchange International market.

Big gains for 2016 IPOS

I$P Finance is up 1,100% since listing in March 2016 but hit an all time high of $35 earlier this year to be up 1,650% at that time.

Initial Public listings have been very popular in the Jamaican stock market. Most of them enjoyed strong gains within a few years of issue.
Investors have bought heavily into most of the issues resulting in most closing on the first day of the issue.
No doubt investors will be avidly awaiting issues to come in the second half of this year. Expecting this week is Productivity Business Solution IPO should be available of subscription in the first week of July and Express Catering should be coming pretty soon as well.
A series of others should be following later in 2017 and in 2018 with Stationery and Supplies expected to follow shortly after the above two, as they iron out a few issues before coming to market, while UCC Online still has issues to resolve. Others that have been recently mentioned publicly and a few that have not yet made public statements, should add to the excitement when they do make it and swell the choices available in the market for ongoing investment.
How have recent IPOS done since listing? Stocks sold to the publish and listed since the start of 2016 had mixed fortunes, with startup entities delivering little gains with one trading lower than the IPO price but four have gained 200 percent or more including one with more than 1,000 percent, one rising 64 percent and one with 34 percent, up to last Friday.
Little known micro finance company, ISP Finance gained a stunning 1,100 percent, since listing in March 2016. Pre-owned car dealer, Jetcon Corporation is up with gains of 687 percent since March last year with information technology, company tTech coming in with gains of 220 percent.
Portland JSX Fund lost 18 percent, while start up general insurance company, Iron Rock is up just 7 percent. All stocks traded at higher prices than the closing ones on Friday.
