JSE majors now new year positive

Stocks rising and declining share the honours with 20 each, at the close of trading on Monday leaving to the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market to close above Friday’s close with the volume of shares traded falling 51 percent and values down 9 percent to Friday.
Several stocks posted strong gains leading the market into positive for the year to date, for only the second time since the start of the year, with January 5th being the only other day the market recorded gains over the 2020 close. The All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 4,304.98 points to 436,954.70 at the close, the Main Index advanced 3,840.76 points to 398,369.57, but the JSE Financial Index slipped 037 points to 100.35.
Investors traded 49 Securities, up from 47 on Friday and closed with 20 rising, 20 declining and 9 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 19.4 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Traders exchanged 18,062,183 shares for $101,989,445 compared to 35,675,257 units at $112,526,954 on Friday. Wigton Windfarm led trading with 45 percent of total volume, after an exchange of 8.12 million shares followed by Pulse Investments with 21.4 percent for 3.86 million units, Sagicor Select Financial Fund 7.9 percent for 1.42 million units and Transjamaican Highway with 6.1 percent market share for 1.11 million units.

JSE Main Market recorded gains in 2021 for only the second time for the year when the market closed on Monday.

Trading for the day averaged 368,616 units at $2,081,417, compared to 759,048 shares at $2,394,191 on Friday. February closed with an average of 419,015 units at $2,509,660.

At the close, Barita Investments slipped 33 cents to $81.17, after exchanging 26,461 shares, Berger Paints closed 30 cents higher at $14.20, with 17,723 units changing hands. Caribbean Cement advanced $5 to $70, after the stock surged to $75 in early trading, with the switching of 125,524 stocks, Ciboney Group lost 22 cents to finish at $1.22, with 38,183 shares clearing the market, Eppley advanced $3.40 to $28.40, with the swapping of 24,498 units. First Rock Jamaica lost 30 cents to end at $15 trading 3,126 stocks, Grace Kennedy climbed $4.50 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $89, with 194,627 shares changing hands. The stock traded upto $95 in response to a strong rise in profit, the company reported for 2020, Jamaica Broilers lost 26 cents to close at $28.74, with an exchange of 24,329 units. Jamaica Producers gained 25 cents to end at $20.45 in swapping 196,833 stocks, Key Insurance rose 76 cents to $4.77 trading 154,642 stock units, Kingston Properties rose $1.41 to $7.25, with 700 units crossing the exchange. Mayberry Investments ended 40 cents higher at $5.69, transferring 7,352 shares, NCB Financial fell 67 cents to $143.33 with an exchanging of 88,291 stock units, 1834 Investments fell 25 cents to 95 cents trading 2,120 units, 138 Student Living shed 70 cents to end at $5.30 while exchanging 1,700 stock units. Palace Amusement dropped $49 to $801, with 683 shares crossing the market, PanJam Investments rose $1 to $65, in an exchange of 13,660 stocks, Portland JSX ended $1.40 higher at $8.50, with the swapping of 2,000 units, Proven Investments climbed $3.40 to $39.40 trading 361 stock units. Sagicor Group declined $2 to finish at $50.10, in switching ownership of 81,964 units, Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 69 cents to close at $8.99 after 7,200 shares crossed the market, Salada Foods fell $3 to $41 in exchanging 6,514 stocks. Scotia Group declined $1.50 to $41 trading 271,291 units, Seprod gained 50 cents to close at $69.50, with the swapping of 34,072 shares, Supreme Ventures lost 50 cents to finish at $16.40 in switching ownership of 13,711 units and Wisynco Group lost 29 cents to close at $16, in transferring 134,237 stock units.

Ciboney drops 15% on Thursday

Ciboney Group price retreated after trading more than 2.5 million shares with the price falling 15 percent from Wednesday’s level on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Thursday with the total volume of stocks trading fell 46 percent from Wednesday’s quantity as the value dropped 60 percent.
The All Jamaican Composite Index inched 3.97 points up to 430,240.96 the Main Index rose 15.10 points to 392,402.29, and the JSE Financial Index rose 0.14 points to settle at 99.94.
Trading ended with 47 securities changing hands, the same as on Wednesday and closed with prices of 14 stocks rising, 24 declining and nine ending unchanged.
The PE Ratio averages 16.6 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Investorss exchanged 15,923,380 shares for $63,507,779 compared to 29,447,608 units at $158,590,501 on Wednesday. Transjamaican Highway led trading with 18.3 percent of total volume, after an exchange of 2.91 million shares followed by QWI Investments controlled 16.9 percent with 2.69 million units, Ciboney Group chipped in 16.1 percent with 2.56 million units. Pulse Investments controlled 11.9 percent of market share for 1.89 million units, Wigton Windfarm with 11.1 percent for 1.77 million units and Key Insurance with 9.4 percent for 1.50 million units.
Trading for the day averaged 338,795 units at $1,351,229, compared to an average of 626,545 shares at $3,374,266 on Wednesday. Trading month to date averages 399,667 units at $2,516,231, versus 403,340 units at $2,586,520 on Wednesday. Trading in January averaged 311,275 units at $1,432,133.

Ciboney stunning rise clocks gains of 783%

Ciboney continues to create waves in the Jamaican financial market. The price closed at a fresh new multi-year high not seen since 1993. In Wednesday’s trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, the stock last traded at $2.13 with year to date gain of 783 percent.

Trading on Wednesday with the market rising modestly, with 47 securities changing hands, down from 46 on Tuesday and closed with 18 rising, 16 declining and 13 remaining unchanged.
The All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 173.69 points to 430,236.99, the Main Index rose 148.82 points to 392,387.19 and the JSE Financial Index shed 0.33 points to close at 99.80.

Some 45 percent more shares traded with a 17 percent dip in value than on Tuesday as 29,447,608 shares traded for $158,590,501 compared to 20,247,118 units at $191,400,586 on Tuesday. Pulse Investments led trading with 47.5 percent of total volume, after 13.98 million shares changed hands, followed by Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund 17.9 percent with 5.27 million, Transjamaican Highway accounted for 13.8 percent with 4.06 million units, Ciboney Group chipped in 5.1 percent for 1.52 million units and Sagicor Select Financial Fund 4.2 percent with 1.25 million units.
Trading for the day averaged 626,545 units at $3,374,266, compared to 440,155 shares at $4,160,882 on Tuesday. Trading month to date averaged 403,340 units at $2,586,520 for each security, in contrast to 389,008 units at $2,535,940 on the prior trading day. Ciboney Group continued its extraordinary run by climbing 31 cents to finish at a new multi-year high of $1.71 on Tuesday with trading 1,438,112 units being bought by stock market investors as they pushed the gains for the year to date to 613 percent, with the stock being the leading winner of on the market so far in 2021.
Trading ended with stocks playing hopscotch, one day up one day down, on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, with the market declining after almost the same number of stocks rose as fell. The value of trading climbed 202 percent, with only 23 percent more shares exchanged than on Monday.
The All Jamaican Composite Index lost 513.21 points to end at 430,063.30, the Main Index shed 464.43 points to 392,238.37 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.33 points to settle at 100.13.
Trading ended with 46 securities changing hands, down from 47 on Monday and closed with 19 stocks rising, 20 declining and seven remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio averages 17 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.

Ciboney’s extraordinary run to new high

The volume of stocks trading climbed 20 percent above Tuesday’s level but with 51 percent less dollars chasing stocks, with Ciboney accounting for a third of the volume and hitting a new multi-year high, in continuation of an extraordinary run for the stock in recent weeks, after the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market resumed activity on Thursday, following the closure for the Ash Wednesday holiday.

Ciboney traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $1.03.

The All Jamaican Composite Index rose 530.13 points to close at 429,893.90, the Main Index advanced 648.27 points to 392,156.46 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.14 points to close at 100.15.
Trading ended with 49 securities changing hands, up from 45 on Tuesday and closed with prices of 17 stocks rising, 21 declining and 11 remaining unchanged.

Stocks gave back much of the gains generated on Wednesday with a loss of 77 percent of the gains in the market indices on Thursday at the close of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market after 66 percent fewer shares were exchanged at half the values of Wednesday traded.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index declined by 2,490.53 points to 423,264.65, the Main Index shed 2,253.82 points to 385,973.65 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.19 points to settle at 98.48.

Stocks regained some of the ground lost on Tuesday with the volume of shares traded rising 162 percent and values climbing 200 percent over Tuesday as advancing stocks edged out declining ones, with the market closing with three securities ending at 52 weeks’ highs.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index rose 3,222.51 points to 425,755.18, the Main Index advanced by 2,902.45 points to 388,227.47 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.01 points to settle at 98.29.
Trading ended with 48 securities changing hands, up from 44 on Tuesday and closed with 22 stocks rising, 21 declining and five remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio closed with an average of 16.5 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
Traders exchanged 43,738,990 shares for $240,182,541 compared to 16,697,777 units at $80,072,023 on Tuesday. Pulse Investments led trading with 66.8 percent of total volume, after an exchange of 29.23 million shares followed by Transjamaican Highway with 8.5 percent for 3.71 million units. Wigton Windfarm ended with 7.9 percent of the day’s trade for 3.47 million units, QWI Investments with 5.6 percent for 2.46 million units and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 4 percent for 1.77 million units changing hands.
Trading for the day averaged 911,229 units at $5,003,803, compared to 379,495 shares at $1,819,819 on Tuesday. The month to date averaged 449,559 units at $2,675,448, in contrast to 380,091 units at $2,325,100 on the prior trading day. Trading in January averaged 311,275 units at $1,432,133.

At the close of the market, Barita Investments fell $1.07 to $78.94 trading 87,793 shares, Berger Paints lost 39 cents to end at $13.50, with 2,685 stock units crossing the market, Caribbean Cement rose $2 to $62 in exchanging 45,633 shares. Ciboney Group carved out a gain of 6 cents in closing at a 52 weeks’ high of 41 cents in exchanging 705,294 stock units, Eppley fell $2.50 to settle at $20, in switching the ownership of 18,191 stock units, First Rock Capital climbed $1 to $15 trading 77,450 stocks. Grace Kennedy advanced $4.20 to a 52 weeks’ high of $82 with 294,737 shares clearing the market, Jamaica Broilers dropped $2.53 in closing at $26.55 after transferring 67,862 stock units, Jamaica Producers ended at $20.50, with gains of 80 cents in exchanging 11,994 units. Jamaica Stock Exchange shed 64 cents to finish at $17.66 after investors swapped 17,020 stocks, Kingston Wharves climbed $2.80 to $48 with 3,881 shares changing hands, Mayberry Jamaican Equities lost 39 cents to end at $6.85 with the swapping of 437 shares. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy fell $2.99 to close at $137.01 in an exchange of 328 stock units, NCB Financial rose $1 to $136 in trading 201,278 units, Palace Amusement jumped $50 to close at $1,050 in trading one unit. Pan Jam Investment fell by $1.30 to $65 with 7,378 stocks changing hands, Portland JSX rose $1.70 to $8.80 with an exchange of 100 shares, Proven Investments shed 73 cents to finish at $38 after crossing the market with 15,620 units. QWI Investments gained 10 cents in closing at a 52 weeks’ high of $1.20 in an exchange of 2,464,374 units, Sagicor Group gained $1.25 to close at $50.25 exchanging 5,218 stocks, Salada Foods declined by $3.90 to settle at $40 trading 118,884 shares and Seprod lost $2.20 and closed at $66.02, after exchanging 18,328 stocks.
In the preference segment, Community & Workers Credit Union gained 23 cents to close at $2.08 with 3,551 shares crossing the market, 138 Student Living preference share shed 80 cents to $5.10, in trading 249 stocks and Eppley 8.75% preference share slid 55 cents to $6.85 trading 73 shares.

Trading highest since December

Trading picked up again on Monday, following the highest amount traded for January on Friday as investors placed $269,081,586 in 222 percent more 38,526,662 shares than they did on Friday when 11,980,396 units traded at $215,025,944 on Friday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market.
Trading ended with 45 securities changing hands compared to 44 on Friday and closed with rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 62 percent leaving prices of 12 stocks rising, 28 declining and five remaining unchanged. Ciboney traded at a 52 weeks’ high of 26 cents and Palace Amusement fell to a 52 weeks’ low of $950.
The PE Ratio closed with an average of 15.7 based on ICInsider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 1,954.05 points to 423,300.48, the Main Index fell by 1,717.60 points to 386,220.23 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.83 points to settle at 98.49.
Carreras led trading with 86.5 percent of total volume, after an exchange of 33.34 million shares followed by Transjamaican Highway with 4.8 percent for 1.86 million and Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund with 2.5 percent for 955,632 units changing hands.
Trading for the day averaged 856,148 units at $5,979,591 for each security, compared to an average of 272,282 shares at $4,886,953 on Friday. Trading in January with an average of 311,275 units at $1,432,133.

At the close of the market, Caribbean Cement shed 51 cents to close at $60, in exchanging 6,672 shares, Eppley closed 75 cents lower at $22, after clearing the market with 4,031 stock units. Eppley Caribbean Property Fund fell $3.95 to $41.05 after trading 923 units, Grace Kennedy advanced by $1.50 in closing at $74.95, with an exchange of 163,715 shares. Jamaica Stock Exchange slipped $1 to $18.50 after 110,632 stock units changed hands. JMMB Group declined by $1.36 in closing at $31.14 after transferring 13,859 units, Kingston Wharves ended at $45, with a loss of $1.50 trading 7,729 stock units. Mayberry Jamaican Equities shed 59 cents to end at $6.40, in swapping 5,756 stocks, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy declined by $11 to $145, with 1,135 units clearing the market. 138 Student Living ended at $4, with a loss of 45 cents and ownership of 260 stock units switching, Palace Amusement dropped $101 to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $950 in exchange of 67 shares, PanJam Investment fell by $3 to $64, with 16,660 stocks crossing the exchange. Salada Foods rose $1 to close at $38, in exchanging 42,886 stock units, Scotia Group shed 79 cents to finish at $43, with 24,748 shares changing hands. Seprod gained 50 cents to settle at $64 after 6,678 stock units crossed the market, Supreme Ventures lost 49 cents to end at $17 trading 38,797 shares and Sygnus Credit Investments slipped 30 cents to $15.70, after transferring 85,391 shares.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.25% shed 90 cents to close at $6.10, in exchanging 839 shares.

Trading at January peak for JSE majors

Trading broke the $200 million mark for the first time this year on Friday, the last trading day for the in January for Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market and the only second time for the month that trading value exceeded $110 million in a day when just over $116.6 million worth of shares crossed the market on January 20.
The market closed with 11,980,396 shares, 30 percent more than Thursday and 168 percent more in value at $215,025,944, up from 9,368,496 units at $83,242,802 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 272,282 units at $4,886,953 for each security, compared to an average of 234,212 shares at $2,081,070 on Thursday. The month to date averaged 311,456 units at $1,435,407 for each stock, in contrast to 313,511 units at $1,254,396 on the prior trading day and well off December average of 455,206 units at $7,774,631.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 19.1 percent of total volume after an exchange of 2.29 million shares followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 14.3 percent for 1.71 million units, Grace Kennedy chipped in with 11.5 percent for 1.38 million units and Transjamaican Highway with 11.4 percent for 1.37 million units.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index climbed 2,827.24 points to 425,254.53, the JSE Main Index rose 2,558.50 to 387,937.83 and the JSE Financial Index added 0.56 points to close at 99.32.
Trading ended with 44 securities changing hands compared to 40 on Thursday and closed with prices of 17 stocks rising, 18 declining and nine remaining unchanged. The average PE Ratio was 16.6 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.

At the market closing, Caribbean Cement dropped $3.99 to $60.51, with a transfer of 27,289 shares. First Rock Capital gained 40 cents to $13.10 after 2,635 units crossed the market. Jamaica Producers closed 40 cents higher at $20, in trading 15,002 stocks. Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 30 cents to $19.50 in trading 129,636 stock units, JMMB Group climbed $1.10 to $32.50, with an exchange of 80,460 shares, Kingston Wharves rose $2.50 $46.50, after switching ownership of 4,238 stocks. Mayberry Investments shed 38 cents to finish at $5.45 in an exchange of 5,232 stock units, 138 Student Living gained 45 cents in ending at $4.45 and trading 4,039 units, Palace Amusement dropped $164 to close at $1,051, with investors swapping 4 units. Pan Jam Investment declined by $3 to $67, with 134,726 stocks crossing the market, Sagicor Group advanced by $3.01 to $52 after trading 598,948 stock units, Sagicor Real Estate Fund fell 95 cents to $8 in exchanging 19,000 shares. Salada Foods climbed $3 to $37, in swapping of 80,784 units, Scotia Group rose 79 cents to close at $43.79, in an exchange of 28,402 stock units, Sygnus Credit Investments shed 30 cents in closing at $16, with 34,889 units crossing the market and Victoria Mutual Investments lost 30 cents to end at $5.55, with the swapping of 62,867 stocks.
In the preference segment, Eppley 8.25% gained 42 cents to settle at $7, in exchanging 2,081 stocks.

Stocks regained some of the ground lost in Monday’s trading when the market closed on Tuesday after an exchange of 65 percent fewer shares at 23 percent less value than on Monday at the close of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market with more stocks rising than falling
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index advanced by 793.87 points to 419,405.38 and the Main Index rose 732.08 points to 382,649.18, and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.60 points to settle at 98.30.
Trading ended with 46 securities changing hands compared to 48 on Monday and closed with prices of 18 stocks rising, 12 declining and 16 remaining unchanged. The PE Ratio closed with an average of 16.5 based on ICInsider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with 11,593,159 shares traded for $63,685,850 down from 32,802,782 units at $83,157,380 on Monday. Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 18.3 percent of total volume after an exchange of 2.13 million shares followed by Wigton Windfarm with 16.4 percent for 1.90 million units, QWI Investments accounted for 16.2 percent with 1.88 million units, Carreras with 13.7 percent for 1.59 million units. Transjamaican Highway ended with 12.7 percent for 1.47 million units and Pulse Investments with a 9.2 percent market share for 1.07 million units.
Trading averaged 252,025 units at $1,384,475 for each security, compared to an average of 683,391 shares at $1,732,445 on Monday. The month to date averaged 328,085 units at $1,225,912, in contrast to 333,020 units at $1,215,624 on Monday. Trading in December averaged 455,206 units at $7,774,631.

JMMB Group climbed $1.04 to $33 after 463,646 units crossed the market with, Key Insurance lost 40 cents to end at $6.30, in exchanging 49,080 stock units. Mayberry Jamaican Equities gained 81 cents to finish at $7.14 after 74,800 shares cleared the market, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy advanced by $14 to $156 trading 25 stock units, NCB Financial slid $1.50 to $136, transferring 24,191 units. 138 Student Living shed 45 cents to end at $4, after exchanging 500 stocks, Pan Jam Investment gained 50 cents to close at $66, in an exchange of 2,349 shares, Portland JSX declined $1.25 to $7.10, with 1,000 units crossing the market, Pulse Investments gained 27 cents to $4.80 in exchanging 1,067,423 shares. Sagicor Group rose 85 cents to $47.50, with 156,219 units crossing the market, Sagicor Real Estate Fund gained 70 cents to close at $8.95 trading 500 stocks, Salada Foods fell $3 to $33, with 966 stock units changing hands.
