Jamaican stocks close down – Monday

SM sign Trading levels on the Jamaica Stock Exchange slipped at the close on Monday from Friday’s with the number of securities and volume trading falling, compared to Friday. At the close the All Jamaica Composite Index fell 919.74 points to close at 188,471.81, with the year to date gains at 12.6 percent. The JSE Market Index fell 822.42 points to finish at 169,569.09 and the JSE combined index dropped 623.42 points to end at 182,889.85 with a gain for the year to date of 15.6 percent.
At the close 1,386,155 units valued at only $14,662,262 changed hands, compared to 2,121,591 units valued at $35,719,971 changing hands on Friday. The junior market accounted for 143,487 units trading valued at $754,871 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 62,133 and 108,809 units month to date. On Friday, an average of 81,096 units traded and for the month to date, 155,485 units, in comparison the average for the October was 220,811 units.

Grace out JMMB in TOP 5

Grace Kennedy is out of the TOP 5 list having released nine months results with earnings that are lower than what was previously indicated from the six months results. The stock is replaced with JMMB Group that is on at number 5 in the main market with potential gains of 134 percent.
Access Financial has moved to the top of the junior market listing. The company has not yet posted results to September but results for Proven Investment show that its associated company, Access’ profit in the September quarter is up 80 percent and 50 percent for the six months, an indication that IC Insider’s forecast for earnings Top 5 stks 11-11-16of $3 for the year is on target. The other stocks have held their respective places but with Jetcon price rising during the past week to $5 from $4.51.
Barita Investments reported earnings of 54 cents per share but it’s more like 65 cents from ongoing earnings, more importantly, ongoing earnings in the September quarter is of the order of 37 cents or close to $1.20 annualised. The investment company made more money from fees and interest income and less on investment and foreign exchange gains than in the past.

The All Jamaica Composite Index dropped 1,569.85 points to close at 189,153.12, bringing the year to date gains to 13 percent. The JSE Market Index fell 1,403.72 points to finish at 170,178.32 and the JSE combined index declined 1,147.57 points to end at 183,032.25 with a gain for the year to date of 15.6 percent.
At the close 18,462,121 units valued at $230,990,500 changed hands, compared to 6,616,334 units valued at $97,621,824 changing hands on Wednesday. The junior market accounted for 11,250,424 units trading valued at $76,439,888 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 277,373 and 229,873 month units to date. On Wednesday, an average of 186,716 units traded and 182,374 month to date. The average for the October was 220,811 units.

The JSE Market Index climbed 2,012.95 points to finish at 171,582.04 and the JSE combined index jumped 2,435.87 points to end at 184,449.82 with a gain for the year to date of 16.5 percent.

The JSE Market Index dived 2,580.55 points to finish at 166,991.45 and the JSE combined index collapsed 2,311.22 points to end at 180,210.50 and gained at 13.9 percent for the year to date.

The main market of the Jamaica Stock exchange surged with the All Jamaica Composite Index adding 3,761.75 points to close at a new high of 188,475.06 bring the year to date gains to 12.6 percent. The JSE Market index, the Select Index and the Composite index all closed at new all-time highs as well, erasing the previous high on October 11.
Helping to move the index up were a $3.35 jump in Caribbean Cement, 80 cents gain in National Commercial Bank, a gain of $1.50 in Sagicor Group and $1.48 in Scotia Group.
The JSE Market Index jumped 3,363.67 points to finish at 169,572.00 and the JSE combined index blasted 3,330.80 points up, to end at 182,521.72 and gained 15.3 percent for the year to date.
At the close 8,751,466 units valued at $70,052,498 changed hands, compared to 8,941,559 units valued at $145,848,058 changing hands on Tuesday. The junior market accounted for 521,462 units trading valued at $7,467,867 of the stocks traded.

Medical Disposables exited the IC Insider’s TOP 5 junior market list, with gains of 52 percent since it entered the list on September 9, at the number 1 spot. The stock rose to $5.62 during the past week but ended at $5.39.
Blue Power enters the list for the first time, with the price having fallen in the week to $20.50. Profits after tax increased by 101 percent to $37 million over the previous year. The contribution of Lumber Depot division to the after tax tally was $17 million ($7 million in 2015), while Blue Power division added $20 million ($12 million in 2015). Earnings per stock unit for the quarter doubled from 33 cents to 66 cents. Sales revenues rose 12 percent, from $302 million to $339 million. Gross profit margin climbed to 24.3 percent in the quarter from 21.3 percent in the similar quarter of 2015 and 20.82 percent for the last fiscal year.
Paramount Trading entered at the number 3 spot at $14, gained 71 percent having shot up to $24 and exited in the top list on the week ending September 16, Derrimon Trading entered with the price at $3.10 and hit $5, for a gain of 61 percent, the stock exited the list during the week ending October 14. General Accident entered the list at $2.10 for the week ending September 23 and has gained 43 percent, the company left the list during the week ending October 7.

The TOP 5 main market stocks have seen only one change since the start. JMMB Group entered at $10 and now sits at $13.50, just below the Top 5. During the past week, Caribbean Cement closed at $33 and move to number 2 spot but Barita Investments slipped in price and took over the number 1 spot. The company reported a small loss of $81 million in the September quarter, having suffered a reduction in revenues in the order of $950 million with the year to date results coming in at $973 million or earnings per share of $1.14 versus $1.5 billion or earnings per share of $1.75 in 2015. Based on the latest results, the stock price is unlikely to move higher in the short term and may well pull back but investors ought to be focusing on results in 2017 when the restructuring of the company’s operations are fully reflecting in the results. Berger Paints rose to $6 and dropped to 4.
Just below the TOP 5 junior market stocks are tTech, Dolphin Cove, Medical Disposables, Jamaican Teas and Caribbean Cream.
In the main market stocks below the Top 5 are JMMB Group, followed by Palace Amusement, Sterling Investments, National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Pan Jamaican. Technically, NCB is at a break out point accordingly, investors should keep an eye on this one as the next move could be sharply to the upside with final year results due shortly. In 2015, the full year results were released on November 12, as such the results for 2016 could be out on November 10.

At the close 2,584,785 units valued at $33,734,659 changed hands, compared to 5,164,481 units valued at $41,188,234 changing hands on Tuesday. The junior market accounted for 718,533 units trading valued at $4,825,236 of the stocks traded.
The average trade for the day in the main market ended at 77,761 units, compared to an average for the month to date of 178,931 units. On Tuesday, an average of 157,519 units, compared to an average for the month to date of 280,102.
