Prices mostly fall on T&T Stock Exchange


Declining stocks outpaced by a wide margin those rising on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Thursday, following a 142 percent jump in the volume of stocks traded valued 10 percent less than Wednesday, resulting from an exchange of 23 securities up from 19 on Wednesday, and ending with prices of four rising, nine declining and 10 ending firm.

In a moderate trading session the market closed with a mere 138,067 shares changing hands for $948,356 compared to a mere 56,999 stock units at $1,053,242 on Wednesday.
An average of 6,003 shares were traded at $41,233 down from 3,000 units at $55,434 on Wednesday. Trading for the month to date, averages 8,958 shares at $76,432 just below 9,362 units at $81,251 on the previous day and well lower than the average of 11,573 shares at $105,485 for July.
The Composite Index slipped 6.22 points to end at 1,002.39, the All T&T Index declined 14.47 points to finish at 1,423.89, the SME Index dipped 0.05 points to 71.67 and the Cross-Listed Index increased 0.39 points to 77.27.

At the close of trading, Agostini dropped $4.95 in closing at a 52 weeks low of $50 with 839 units crossing the market, Ansa McAl rallied $1 to $47 in an exchange of 2,003 stocks, Ansa Merchant Bank ended at $28.30 with 35 shares changing hands. AS Bryden remained at $1.50 with 7,797 stock units crossing the exchange, Eric Solis Marketing lost 7 cents to finish at $4.10 with a transfer of 575 shares, First Citizens Group fell by $1.05 to $38.50 with 602 stocks being traded. GraceKennedy increased 15 cents to $3.90 in an exchange of 55,965 units, Guardian Holdings ended at $16.25 with a transfer of 152 stock units, Guardian Media remained at 81 cents after the trading of 5 shares. JMMB Group ended at 84 cents with 450 stocks clearing the market, L.J. Williams B share remained at 80 cents after a transfer of 5 units, Massy Holdings shed 1 cent to finish at $3.44 with investors trading 7,305 stock units. National Enterprises dropped 5 cents to $4.50 in switching ownership of 15,000 shares, National Flour Mills fell 6 cents in closing at $1.54 with investors dealing in 3,954 stocks, One Caribbean Media skidded 1 cent to $1.67 after an exchange of 650 units. Point Lisas remained at $6.90 following trading of 83 stock units, Prestige Holdings dipped $3.10 to finish at $10.55 with 801 shares passing through the market, Republic Financial climbed 50 cents to $110.50 with an exchange of 31 stocks. Scotiabank ended at $45.49 after an exchange of 1,313 units, Trinidad & Tobago NGL remained at $10.49 with investors swapping 28,732 stock units, Trinidad Cement fell 5 cents and settled at $1.75 with investors trading 7,002 shares. Unilever Caribbean rose 5 cents to end at $14.80 as investors exchanged 4,766 units and West Indian Tobacco ended at $4.20 with 2 stocks changing hands.
