Gleaner’s big trade on JSE

Activity picked up on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday and resulted in the prices of 5 stocks rising, 3 declining as 22 securities changed hands, ending with 47,574,512 units trading, valued at $46,962,041, in all market segments as the Gleaner Company posted the largest trade.
Gleaner Company ended with more than 32 million units valued at $27.36 million trading. Broker, Stocks & Securities played a major role in the trade, with all units sold, executed by them as brokers with buying by MVL Stockbrokers for all but 185,000 units. The trades have removed a major overhang of selling from the market but still leave more selling at the closing price and some offers close to the closing price.

Grace Kennedy closing with 1,286 units changing hands ended with an increase of 51 cents to $60.51, National Commercial Bank finished with 9,350 shares as the price gained 13 cents to end at a new 52 weeks’ high of $22.15, Sagicor Group closing with 13,000 shares to end with an increase of 9 cents to $10.40 and Scotia Group ending with 2,977 shares trading for 20 cents more to $21.
Firm| The stocks in the main market to close without a change in the last traded prices are, Caribbean Cement closing with 10,000 shares trading at $2.85, Carreras ending with 22,192 shares trading at $44.50, Gleaner closing with 32,184,601 shares changing hands at 85 cents. Jamaica Broilers closed with 25,966 shares trading at $4.02, Mayberry Investments had 7,886 units trading at $1.95 and Sagicor Real Estate Fund closed with 3,200 shares changing hands at $6.70.
Declines| The last traded prices of stocks with losses at the end of trading in the main market are, Jamaica Money Market Brokers concluding trading with 579,863 ordinary shares changing hands to close 10 cents lower to $6.90 and Proven Investments ended trading with 9,810 shares trading lower by 0.05 cent to 18 US cents.
Preference| Jamaica Public Service 9.5% preference share traded 881 units at $1,125 and Jamaica Money Market Brokers 7.50% preference share ended with 1,460,887 shares changing hands to close $2.
