Transjamaican cornered Main Market trading

Trading surged on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Friday, with Transjamaican Highway the leading trade with 108.33 million shares for 84.7 percent of total volume followed by Sagicor Group with 6.16 million stock units for 4.8 percent of the day’s trade, Wigton Windfarm with 4.26 million stock units for 3.3 percent market share, but that did not prevent the market from declining to close out the week.
Also trading more than a million shares were Kingston Wharves with 2.22 million stock units for 1.7 percent of market share, Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.72 million stock units for 1.3 percent of traded stocks and GraceKennedy with 1.30 million units for one percent of total volume and resulted in the volume of stocks traded rising 281 percent and the value 357 percent more than on Thursday, with trading in 63 securities compared with 59 on Thursday, with prices of 21 stocks rising, 19 declining and 23 ending unchanged.
The market closed with trading of 127,873,060 shares with a value of $819,655,109 compared with 33,594,485 units at $179,518,690 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 2,029,731 shares at $13,010,399 compared to 569,398 stocks at $3,042,690 on Thursday and month to date, an average of 636,315 units at $8,820,548 compared with 526,721 shares at $8,491,009 on the previous day and August with an average of 290,511 stocks at $2,258,494.
The All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 2,026.91 points to close at 348,363.41, the JSE Main Index shed 1,280.15 points to end trading at 305,716.91 and the JSE Financial Index dipped 0.55 points to end the day at 63.80.
The Main Market ended trading with an average PE Ratio of 14.3. The JSE Main and USD Market PE ratios are based on last traded prices and earnings forecasts by ICInsider.com for companies with the financial year ending around August 2025.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 12 stocks ending with bids higher than their last selling prices and six with lower offers.
At the close, Barita Investments climbed $1.33 to $73.43 in switching ownership of 12,085 shares, General Accident declined 40 cents to end at $6.50 with 6,125 stocks crossing the market, GraceKennedy lost 50 cents in closing at $73.50 in an exchange of 1,299,669 shares. Jamaica Broilers rose $1.32 and ended at $34.84 with investors trading 60,162 stock units, Kingston Wharves gained 50 cents to finish at $26.50 in an exchange of 2,222,865 shares, Mayberry Jamaican Equities popped $1.15 to close at $10.40 in trading 300 stock units. NCB Financial increased 74 cents to $52 with a transfer of 16,941 stocks, Sagicor Group rallied 64 cents to end at $39.99 as investors exchanged 6,163,783 stock units, Seprod advanced 80 cents in closing at $83.30 after a transfer of 13,233 stocks and Wisynco Group sank $1.47 to finish at $20.03 with investors trading 314,866 units.
In the preference segment, Jamaica Public Service 7% slipped $5 and ended at $42 after closing with 260 shares changing hands, JMMB Group 7% preference share sank 44 cents to close at $2.52 with investors dealing in 3,300 stock units. JMMB Group 7.15% – 2028 shed 39 cents to end at $2.61 after 20,030 shares passed through the market, 138 Student Living preference share dived $46.60 to end at $144 with an exchange of 181 stocks and Sygnus Credit Investments C10.5% dipped $2.61 in closing at $101.39, with 250 units changing hands.
