Trading sinks on JSE Main Market

Trading dropped back from yesterday’s heady activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market, at close on Friday, with an 84 percent fall in the volume traded following a 96 percent plunge in value from Thursday, with trading in 57 securities compared with 56 on Thursday, with prices of 21 stocks rising, 16 declining and 20 ending unchanged.
The market closed with 7,156,390 shares being traded for $45,293,210 compared with 45,409,858 units at $1,184,111,687 on Thursday.
Trading averaged 125,551 shares at $794,618, down sharply from an average of 810,890 stock units at $21,144,852 on Thursday and month to date, an average of 237,646 units at $4,659,567 compared to 264,492 units at $5,585,206 on the previous day and August with an average of 290,511 units at $2,258,494.
Transjamaican Highway led trading with 1.53 million shares for 21.4 percent of total volume followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 1.12 million units for 15.7 percent of the day’s trade and Wigton Windfarm with 999,513 stock units for 14 percent of market share.
The All Jamaican Composite Index rallied 1,262.85 points to end at 347,280.42, the JSE Main Index popped a mere 14.57 points to finish at 304,502.89 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.20 points to settle at 63.29.
The Main Market ended trading with an average PE Ratio of 13.9. The JSE Main and USD Market PE ratios are based on last traded prices and earnings forecasts by ICInsider.com for companies with the financial year ending around August 2025.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows eight stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and four with lower offers.
At the close of trading, Barita Investments dipped 40 cents and ended at $73.10 with investors trading 2,395 stock units, Caribbean Cement fell 99 cents to $63.01 with 6,693 shares changing hands, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund shed $3 to finish at $39 with investors dealing in 21 units. GraceKennedy dropped $1.50 to end at $72 after an exchange of 16,277 stocks, Guardian Holdings sank $18 in closing at $288 with investors swapping 20,000 shares, Jamaica Broilers rallied $1.98 to close at $33.98 in switching ownership of 4,428 stocks. Jamaica Producers increased $2.50 to $21 with traders dealing in 28 units, Jamaica Stock Exchange climbed 56 cents to close at $10.75 in an exchange of 7,134 stock units, JMMB Group skidded 47 cents to end at $20.73 and closed after an exchange of 12,857 shares. Massy Holdings sank 78 cents in closing at $78 with a transfer of 41,490 units, Portland JSX rose 41 cents and ended at $10.69 after an exchange of 10 stocks, Proven Investments advanced 50 cents to finish at $16 with 4,226 stock units clearing the market. Salada Foods popped 49 cents and ended at $3.50 as investors exchanged 12,453 shares, Scotia Group gained $1 to $43 after a transfer of 77,691 stock units, Seprod rose $1.99 in closing at $84.49 in trading 507 units and Wisynco Group rallied 60 cents to close at $21.75 with 24,216 stocks crossing the market.
In the preference segment, Sygnus Credit Investments C10.5% increased 48 cents to end at $105 with an exchange of just one share.
