More corrections for Main Market

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange stretched its losing streak into the fourth day the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index shedding 2,281.59 points to close at 531,067.72, the JSE Market Index falling 2,132.31 points to 483,587.41.
At the close of trading, JSE Financial Index lost just 0.18 points to close at 131.54, a reflection that stocks in this segment of the market remain relatively stable on Thursday.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 14 advancing, 16 declining and 15 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 49,111,069 units valued at $124,613,707 in contrast to 12,415,818 units valued at $141,179,331 from 43 securities on Wednesday.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 24.3 million shares for 49.5 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 12.3 million units for 25 percent of the day’s trade, and QWI Investments with 5.9 million shares for 12 percent of the market’s volume. Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution was the only stock trading more than 1 million units, ending the day with 4.3 million shares.
The Market closed with an average of 1,197,409 units valued at an average of $3,035,972 for each security traded, in contrast to 288,740 units valued at an average of $3,283,240 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 669,453 units valued at $2,538,839 for each security changing hands compared to 489,068 units valued at 2,376,829 for each security traded. Trading in January resulted in an average of 626,134 units valued at $3,511,981 for each security.

Jamaica Broilers closed $1 lower to $34, with 41,583 shares changing hands, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 50 cents trading 81,502 shares to close at $31, JMMB Group declined by $3 to $43, in transferring 112,651 shares. Kingston Wharves climbed $2.40 to $63.47, with an exchange of 3,773 units. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy dropped $6, ending at $190 after 858 units changed hands, NCB Financial lost $2 to end at $187, in trading 211,865 shares, PanJam Investment lost $1 to settle at $100, with an exchange of 3,124 shares. Proven Investments rose to $47, with gains of $2.50 in trading 9,744 units, Pulse Investments closed at $7.50, climbing $1.50 after a transfer of 510,319 shares, Sagicor Group gained 50 cents to end at $66.50, with 23,173 shares crossing the market. Scotia Group dropped $1.50 after trading 150,064 shares to close at $53, Stanley Motta rose 70 cents to $5.75 trading 6,768 shares and Sygnus Credit Investments lost $1 to end at $24.50, with 29,744 shares changing hands.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 9,740 units valued at over US$2,707, with the market index declining 2.16 points to close at 220.57. JMMB Group 5.75% preference share traded 230 units at US$2, JMMB Group 6% preference share exchanged 21 units at US$1, Proven Investments gained 1.3 cents to close at 28.5 US cents, with 5,260 units changing hands and Sygnus Credit Investments closed at 17.99 US cents, after transferring 4,229 units.

JSE Main Market 3 days 16,000 points plunge

Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market plunged at the close of trading on Wednesday and, in the process, pulled JSE All Jamaican Composite Index down 16,165 points in three days and the JSE Market Index down by 14,744 points.
At the close of the market on Wednesday, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index dived 6,722.84 points to close at 533,349.31, the JSE Market Index declined 6,069.73 points to 485,719.72 and the JSE Financial Index fell 1.22 points to 131.72. At the close, and Portland JSX closed at 52 weeks’ high while 138 Student Living traded at a 52 weeks’ intraday high of $6 and QWI investments closed at a 52 weeks’ low of 88 cents.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 13 advancing, 22 declining and 10 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 43 securities trading and accounting for 12,415,818 units valued at $141,179,331 in contrast to 17,558,523 units valued at $50,385,050 from 37 securities changing hands on Tuesday.
Wigton Windfarm led trading with 3.4 million shares for 27 percent of total volume, followed by QWI Investments Limited with 2.5 million units for 20 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution with 2.4 million shares for 19 percent of the market’s volume. Sagicor Select Financial Fund was the sole stock trading more than 1 million units ending the day with 1.8 million shares.
The Market closed with an average of 288,740 units valued at an average of $3,283,240 for each security traded, in contrast to 474,555 units valued at an average of $1,361,758 on Tuesday. Trading in the US dollar market ended with 36,279 units valued at over US$10,361. The market index dropped 12.49 points to close at 222.73. Proven Investments lost 4.3 cents to close at 27.2 US cents exchanging 35,743 shares and Sygnus Credit Investments gained 1 cent trading 986 units, to end at 18 US cents.

JSE Main Market dives again

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market indices dropped back again on Tuesday after suffering pulling back on Monday, with more than twice the number of stocks declining versus those advancing.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index declined 4,862.18 points to close at 540,072.15, the JSE Market Index fell 4,352.68 points to 491,789.45 and the JSE Financial Index lost 0.45 points to 132.94.
The market closed with 42 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 9 advancing, 23 declining and 10 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 37 securities accounting for 17,558,523 units for a sum of $50,385,050 in contrast to 28,713,834 units valued at $92,575,039 from 40 securities on Monday.
 Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 7.7 million shares for 44 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 5.8 million units for 33 percent of the day’s trade, and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 1.86 million shares for 10.6 percent of the market’s volume. QWI Investments was the sole stock trading more than 1 million units ending the day with an exchange of 1.2 million units.

Proven Investments lost half of a cent to close at 31.5 US cents trading 12,408 shares, Sterling Investments ended at 2.4 US cents after losing 0.6 of a cent, in transferring 25,378 shares and Sygnus Credit Investments gained half of a cent to close at 17 US cents.

JSE Main Market falls

The Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with a moderate fall on Friday as declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks by 36 percent.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index lost 1,023.16 points to close at 544,986.47, the JSE Market Index dropped 907.78 points to 496,361.33 and the JSE Financial Index gained 0.69 points to 134.09.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 14 advancing, 19 declining and 12 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting 22,042,921 units valued at $194,024,950 in contrast to 22,654,582 units valued at $171,374,765 from 42 securities on Thursday.
Wigton Windfarm dominated trading with 8.4 million shares for 38 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 5.8 million units for 26 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 2.4 million shares for 11 percent of the market’s volume. QWI Investments with 1.8 million shares or 8 percent of the market changing hands, was the only other security trading more than one million units.

Sterling Investments closed at 3 US cents, with 6,160 units changing hands and Sygnus Credit Investments lost half of 1 US cent to close at 17 US cents in transferring 84,127 shares.

JSE Main Market ekes out gain

Grace Kennedy ended at a 52 weeks’ closing high.

The Main Market on the Jamaica Stock Exchange posted modest gains at the close on Thursday even as declining stocks doubled advancing ones but with Grace Kennedy and Victoria Mutual investments hitting record highs.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 478.62 points to close at 546,009.63, the JSE Market Index gained 402.72 points to end at 497,269.11 while the JSE Financial Index rose 0.23 points to 133.40.
The market closed with 47 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with prices of 11 advancing, 22 declining and 14 remaining unchanged. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting 22,654,582 units valued at $171,374,765 in contrast to 30,283,990 units valued at $380,332,800 from 39 securities on Wednesday.
 Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 9.1 million shares for 40 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 6.6 million units for 29 percent of the day’s trade, and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 2.4 million shares for 10.6 percent of the market’s volume. Sagicor Group with an exchange of 1.5 million shares, for 6.5 percent of the Main Market volume, was the only other stock trading more than one million units.

Proven Investments lost 2 US cents to close at 32 US cents trading 175,270 shares, Sterling Investments closed at 3 US cents in exchanging 3,000 units and Sygnus Credit Investments gained half of 1 US cent to close at 17.5 US cents after the transfer of 5,590 shares.

Sharp surge in JSE Main Market

Kingston Wharves jumped $9.40 on Tuesday.

The major indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange surged substantially at the close on Tuesday as Kingston Wharves led price movement with a gain of $9.40 and heavy weighted Scotia Group rose $1.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index soared 8,517.00 points to close at 552,549.31, the JSE Market Index surged 7,718.70 points to 503,194.75 and the JSE Financial Index rose 1.81 points to 136.17.
The market closed with 43 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 15 advancing, 18 declining and 10 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting 35,465,290 units valued at $125,645,204 in contrast to 17,412,213 units valued at $219,477,578 from 42 securities on Monday.
Wigton Windfarm dominated trading with 22.2 million shares for 62 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 6.2 million units for 17 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 2.24 million shares for 6 percent of market share. QWI Investments with 1.56 million units changing hands was the only other company trading more than one million shares.

Portland JSX closed 30 cents higher at $8, after swapping 1,500 units, Proven Investments added 50 cents to end at a record closing high of $49.50, with an exchange of 20,981 shares, Radio Jamaica lost 48 cents to settle at $1.41, with 246,227 shares changing hands. Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended 60 cents lower to close at $9 while trading 183,700 shares, Scotia Group added $1 to close at $57.50, after swapping 563,570 shares, Seprod dropped $2.95 to end at $47 while trading 11,255 units. Supreme Ventures tumbled to $21.02, after falling $3.98 and exchanging 56,530 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments closed $1.15 lower to $25.60, with 31,627 shares changing hands and Victoria Mutual Investments rose to a record high of $11.50, with a gain of 54 cents to end at $11.50, as 337,888 shares crossed the exchange.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 25,611 units valued at over US$4,730. The market index climbed 4.19 points to close at 241.65. Proven Investments gained 1.5 US cents to close at 33 US cents trading 2,218 shares and Sygnus Credit Investments ended 2 US cents higher to settle at 17 US cents with 23,393 units changing hands.

JSE Main Market loses ground – Monday

Activity on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market began the week with the major indices losing ground with rising stocks edging out declining ones.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index declined 2,332.11 points to close at 544,032.31, the JSE Market Index dropped 2,102.93 points to 495,476.05 and the JSE Financial Index lost 1.18 points to 134.33.
Grace Kennedy and Jamaica Producers lost $5 and $2.39, respectively, at the same time, Kingston Wharves jumped $5.57, Jamaica Stock Exchange climbed $3.14 and Caribbean Cement was up $2 to be some of the more significant movers at the close of trading.
The market closed with 46 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 19 advancing, 16 declining and 11 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting 17,412,213 units valued at $219,477,578 in contrast to 18,625,847 units valued at $90,035,262 from 43 securities on Friday.
 Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 5.65 million shares for 32 percent of total volume, followed by Wigton Windfarm with 3.45 million units for 20 percent of the day’s trade and Sagicor Select Manufacturing and Distribution Fund with 2.64 million shares for 15 percent market share. Other stocks trading more than one million shares were Grace Kennedy with 1.25 million shares and QWI Investments with 1.44 million units.
The market closed with an average of 414,576 units valued at an average of $5,225,657 for each security traded, in contrast to 433,159 units valued at an average of $2,093,843 on Friday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 528,016 units valued at $2,464,594 for each security changing hands, compared to 537,214 units valued at $2,221,990 for each security traded. Trading in December resulted in an average of 595,143 units valued at $9,344,514 for each security.

Eppley Caribbean Property Fund rose 98 cents to $38, in swapping 3,200 shares, Grace Kennedy dropped $5 to end at $72, after transferring 1,248,922 shares, Jamaica Broilers closed at $38, after losing $1 in trading 2,849 shares. Jamaica Producers settled at $24.61, with a loss of $2.39 in swapping 21,511 units, Jamaica Stock Exchange advanced by $3.14 to $32, in exchanging 56,550 shares, JMMB Group lost 45 cents to close at $48, with 107,892 shares changing hands. Kingston Wharves climbed $5.57 to $61.60, in transferring 32,070 units, Mayberry Jamaican Equities ended 31 cents lower at $11.01, with an exchange of 22,155 shares, 138 Student Living gained 42 cents to settle at $4.22 trading 3,000 shares. PanJam Investment ended at $102, with a gain of $1 after exchanging 8,876 shares. Portland JSX lost $1.29 to end at $7.70, with 92,980 shares changing hands, Proven Investments gained $1 to $49, after transferring 29,275 shares, Sagicor Real Estate Fund ended 55 cents higher to close at $9.60 after trading 7,657 stock units. Scotia Group added 50 cents to settle at $56.50, with 91,557 shares changing hands, Supreme Ventures ended at $25, gaining $1 exchanging 54,697 shares, Victoria Mutual Investments closed 36 cents higher at $10.96, after swapping 334,266 shares and Wisynco Group rose $1 to $23, in trading 74,342 units.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 395,007 units value US$115,375. The market index plunged 10.07 points to close at 237.46. Margaritaville traded 251,150 shares and declined marginally from 34 US cents to 33.99 US cents, Proven Investments closed 2.5 US cents lower to 31.55 US cents, after swapping 13,933 shares. Sygnus Credit Investments lost 3 US cents in exchanging 126,766 units to close at 15 US cents, and JMMB Group 5.75% preference share remained unchanged at US$1.72, after trading 3,158 units.

JSE Main Market enjoys bounce

Grace Kennedy put on $7 to recover from a big drop on Wednesday, but Scotia Group dropped $2.95 and, along with sixteen other rising stocks, helped to push the JSE Main Market Index up 3,600 points.
Market activity resulted in the primary indices regaining almost half of the ground lost on Wednesday. At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index jumped 4,003.98 points to close at 548,733.81. The JSE Market Index climbed 3,628.22 points to 499,677.72 and the JSE Financial Index rose 1.55 points to 136.32.
The market closed with 47 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 18 stocks advancing, 16 declining and 13 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 42 securities accounting for 28,467,668 units valued at $102,258,217 in contrast to 49,953,294 units valued at $104,735,667 from 42 securities on Wednesday.
Wigton Windfarm dominated trading with 17.6 million shares for 62 percent of total volume, followed by Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 6.3 million units for 22 percent of the day’s trade and QWI Investments with 1.1 million shares for 4 percent of the market’s volume.
The Market closed with an average of 662,039 units, valued at an average of $2,378,098 for each security traded, in contrast to 1,218,373 units valued at an average of $2,554,528 on Wednesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 546,633 units valued at $2,234,657 for each security changing hands, compared to 535,146 units valued at $2,218,923 for each security traded. NCB Financial Group declined by 50 cents to close at $193, in an exchange of 74,576 shares, Sagicor Group climbed $1.80 to $70.80, in swapping 9,434 shares, Scotia Group ended $2.95 down at $55, with 34,209 shares changing hands, Seprod slipped 94 cents and closed at $48, in trading 35,213 shares. Supreme Ventures slid to $23, after a loss of $2 in transferring 147,830 shares, Victoria Mutual Investments closed 50 cents lower at $10.50, with an exchange of 297,116 shares and Wisynco Group gained $1.25 to end at $23.25, in swapping 188,582 shares. In the preference sector, JMMB Group 7.25% preference share lost 39 cents in closing at $1.59 with just 535 units changing hands.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 223,639 units valued at over US$55,813. The market index advanced 3.06 points to close at 235.51. Margaritaville Turks exchanged 122,500 shares at 35 US cents after rising a fraction of a cent. Sygnus Credit Investments gained 3.7 US cents trading 56,225 shares to end at 18 US cents, Sterling Investments closed at 3 US cents with 36,382 units changing hands. Productive Business Solution rose 5 US cents to 75 US cents, with a transfer of 123 units and Proven Investments lost half of a cent to end at 32 US cents while exchanging 8,409 shares.

Prices of Grace Kennedy and NCB Financial Group suffered sharp declines followed by Jamaica Broilers and Kingston Wharves and helped to knock several thousand points off the major indices of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index plummeted 9,959.24 points to close at 544,729.83, the JSE Market Index plunged 9,002.01 points to 496,049.50 and the JSE Financial Index declined 2.42 points to 134.77.
The market closed with 46 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 13 advancing, 21 declining and 12 trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 49,953,294 units at $104,735,667 in contrast to 25,370,029 units valued at $66,307,015 from 36 securities on Tuesday.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund dominated trading with 36.3 million shares for 73 percent of total volume, followed by JMMB Group 7.5% with 5 million units for 10 percent of the day’s trade, and Wigton Windfarm with 2.9 million shares for 6 percent of the market’s volume. Other stocks trading more than one million units were Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund with 2.2 million shares and QWI Investments with 1.7 million units.
The Market closed with an average of 1,218,373 units valued at an average of $2,554,528 for each security traded, in contrast to 704,723 units for $1,841,862 on Tuesday for each security changing hands. PanJam Investment closed $1.50 lower to $100.50 while exchanging 2,500 units, Pulse Investments gained 55 cents to close at $7, with 22,670 units changing hands. Sagicor Group lost $1 to end at $69, in swapping 52,139 shares, Seprod closed $1.06 lower to $48.94 trading 12,584 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments gained 50 cents in transferring 38,791, to end at $27. Victoria Mutual Investments climbed $1 to a record $11, with an exchange of 341,192 shares and Wisynco Group closed 50 cents lower to $22 in swapping 319,531 shares.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 220,522 units valued US$77,797. The market index lost 1.49 points to close at 232.45. Proven Investments traded 104,624 units, gaining half of 1 US cent to close at 0.325 US cents, Sterling Investments swapped 10,000 units at 3 US cents and Sygnus Credit Investments lost 3.7 US cents in exchanging 73,431 shares to end at 14.3 US cents. JMMB Group 6% preference closed at US$1, after falling just under half of one US cent in trading 32,467 shares.
