D&G dropped majors sharply – Monday

Scotia Group traded at a new high on Monday

A big drop of $5.63 pushed down Desnoes and Geddes $22.88 with only 2,500 shares trading inflicted a big dent in the Jamaica Stock Exchange main market indices on Monday. Trading took place with 39 securities changing hands in all market segments, 14 of which gained and 12 declined. Six stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs, as 7,135,151 units valued at $84,903,170 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,152,213 units valued at $5,608,634.
The JSE Market Index shed 2,948.76 points to 158,874.73 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a dive of 3,295.41 points to end at 176,507.77 and the JSE combined index dropped 2,447.98 points to close at 170,583.93.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 18 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and only 1 with a lower offer.
At the end of the market activities, Barita Investments ended with a gain of 50 cents as a mere 100 units traded to close at $4.78,

Berger Paints rose 5 cents to end at 52 weeks’ closing high of $4.80, with 1,610 units traded. Cable and Wireless lost 4 cents to close at $1.50 with 1,123,590 units trading, Caribbean Cement fell 90 cents to close at $27.10 with 23,691 shares changing hands. Ciboney traded 20,632 shares at 21 cents, Gleaner Company fell 35 cents in trading 498,936 to close at $2.42, Grace Kennedy gained $1 to close at $83 with 242,975 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers Group traded 24,546 units but fell 80 cents to $14, Jamaica Producers rose 85 cents to end at $30 with 10,800 units trading, JMMB Group traded 12,000 units to end at $11. Margaritaville Turks had 35,000 shares trading at a new high of 13.7 US cents, Mayberry Investments had 207,543 units changing hands with a loss of 25 cents to end at $4.75, National Commercial Bank traded 1,268,712 shares and dived $2.50 to close at $43.

Pan Jamaican Investments closed at $96 after trading 400,000 shares with a loss of $1.50. Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 642,587 units changing hands. Scotia Group had 357,016 shares changing hands to close with a gain of $3.50 at a 52 weeks’ high of $37. Seprod added 3,564 units and gained $1.49 in ending at a 52 weeks’ high of $21.99, Supreme Ventures closed at $6.25 with 312,500 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 22,700 units to close at 22 US cents, JMMB 7.50% preference share traded 13,400 units with a gain of 1 cent at $2.12 and Proven Investment 8% preference share traded 52,000 units at $5.

Stocks dropped sharply on Friday

Scotia fell on Friday & helped in the sharp fall of the main JSE indices.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market indices all closed sharply down on Friday, as declines in mainly Scotia Group and National Commercial Bank took back much of the gains of Thursday, as 41 securities changed hands in all market segments, 18 of which gained and 9 declined.
Seven stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs, as 7,135,151 units valued at $84,903,170 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,152,213 units valued at $5,608,634. The JSE Market Index shed 3,188.40 points to 161,823.49, the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a dive of 3,563.21 points to end at 179,803.18 and the JSE combined index dropped 3,106.97 points to close at 173,031.91.

JSE Sum 05-02-16 Cable and Wireless with 283,110 units trading, closed with a rise of 2 cents at $1.54, Caribbean Cement fell 90 cents to close at $28 with 23,393 shares changing hands. Carreras exchanged 527,435 shares at $62.51 with a rise of 1 cent, Ciboney traded 532,700 shares at 21 cents after losing 3 cents, Gleaner Company gained 12 cents in trading 1,012,500 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $2.77, Grace Kennedy gained 50 cents to close at $82 with 74,516 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers Group traded 337,119 units but fell 40 cents to $14.80, Jamaica Producers ended at $29.15 with 1,621 units trading, as the price dipped 85 cents, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed at $20 with 14,000 units trading, JMMB Group traded 55,000 units but fell 20 cents to end at $11. Kingston Wharves traded 2,660 shares but lost 60 cents to end at $10.40, Margaritaville Turks had 102,000 trading at a new high of 13.5 US cents, Mayberry Investments had 614,873 units changing hands at $5 after rising by 50 cents, National Commercial Bank traded 16,432 shares and dived $1.50 to close at $43.50. Pulse Investments traded at a new 52 weeks’ high of $4.01 while gaining 11 cents with 819,301 shares. Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 573,960 units changing hands. Scotia Group had 137,276 shares changing hands to close with a fall of 40 cents at $33.50. Scotia Investments rose $1.88 with 3,000 units changing hands to end at $29.38. Supreme Ventures closed at $6.25 with 124,970 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 15,603 units to close at 22 US cents, JMMB 7.25% preference share traded 20,000 units at $2.40 and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 34,100 units to gain 1 cent at $2.11.

Stocks hit record high on Thursday

NCB ended at a new closing 52 weeks’ high of $45 on Thursday

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market indices all closed at new record highs on Thursday, with 41 securities changing hands in all market segments, 18 of which gained and 8 declined. Nine stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at an intraday high, as 5,147,422 units valued at only $70,621,438 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,700,082 units changed hands, valued at $8,831,236.
as the JSE Market Index climbed 833.94 points to 165,011.89 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a rise of 931.97 points to end at 183,366.39 and the JSE combined index surged 1,215.98 points to close at 176,138.88.

Caribbean Cement rose 30 cents to close at $28.90, with 46,195 shares changing hands, Carreras exchanged 375,002 shares at $62.50 with a loss of 50 cents, Gleaner Company traded 81,416 shares but fell 5 cents to $2.65, Grace Kennedy closed at $81.50 with 9,300 units changing hands as the price fell by $1. Jamaica Broilers climbed 20 cents to $15.20 with 145,679 shares changing hands, Jamaica Producers ended at $30 with 122,760 units trading, Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with a gain of 25 cents at $20 with 50,007 units trading, JMMB Group traded 577,792 units but rose 25 cents to end at $11.20. Kingston Wharves traded 12,200 shares at $11, Margaritaville Turks had 21,000 units changing hands to close at a 52 weeks’ high of 12.06 US cents with the rice rising by 0.06 cent. Mayberry Investments had 66,744 shares changing hands with a loss of 10 cents at $4.50, National Commercial Bank traded 16,282 shares and jumped $2 to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $45. Pan Jamaican Investment traded 3,187 units at $97.50, Pulse Investments traded 20,000 shares with a gain of 40 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ high of $3.90.

Radio Jamaica traded 12,500 shares with a decline of 5 cents to close at $4.45, Sagicor Group fell by 5 cents to close at $23 with 36,417 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate X Fund gained 10 cents to close at 52 weeks’ high of $11.70 with 13,447 shares trading. Scotia Group had 501,812 shares changing hands to close with a rise of 1 cent at $33.90. Scotia Investments rose 49 cents with 36,300 units changing hands to end at $27.50. Seprod gained $1.50 in ending at $20.50 while trading just 1,666 units, Supreme Ventures lost 10 cents and closed at $6.25 with 146,780 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 9,875 units to close at 22 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 23,470 units at $2.10.

At the close there were still over 10,714 shares on offer at $30 or more.
The market closed with 43 securities changing hands in all market segments, 18 of which gained and 8 declined. Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and Sagicor Real Estate Fund trading at an intraday high of $11.65 as 6,392,546 units valued at only $71,121,018 changed hands in all markets. 24 stocks rose on JSE – Monday

Berger Paints reported a 61% increase in profits for the 9 months to December 2015, after trading closed.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with 40 securities changing hands in all market segments, 24 of which gained and 8 declined with the junior market index climbing over 2 percent.
Two stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs one at a 52 weeks’ low and one traded at intraday highs as 12,148,016 units valued at only $49,596,056 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,032,255 units changed hands, valued at $4,390,508.
The JSE Market Index climbed 1,182.30 points to 161,531.59 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a rise of 1,321.29 points to end at 179,476.96 and the JSE combined index gained 1,554.59 points to close at 172,394.70.

Cable and Wireless ended with 172,447 units changing hands to close at $1.59, Caribbean Cement climbed $1.95 to close at $28.60, with 8,800 shares changing hands. Grace Kennedy fell 50 cents and closed at $82.50, with 15,670 units changing hands but the stock traded on Friday in Trinidad at $4.15 and closed with a bid at $4.18 (J$78.16) on Monday. Jamaica Broilers fell 4 cents to $14.45 with 15,237 shares changing hands, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 29 cents to $20 with 3,500 units trading, JMMB Group traded 26,728 units but gained 10 cents to end at $11, Kingston Wharves traded 9,245 units to close with a gain of 10 cents at $11.19. Mayberry Investments had 4,386 shares changing hands but rose 15 cents to $4.50, National Commercial Bank (NCB) traded 57,900 shares but rose $1.89 to close at $42.99 two trading days after the banking group released interim results to December, last year with a 12 percent increase in aftertax profit to $2.4 billion, from $2.1 billion. NCB stock traded in Trinidad on Friday at the equivalent of $5.20. Pan Jamaican Investment dropped $4 with just 2,930 units changing hands to close at $94, Pulse Investments traded 10,002,000 shares with a fall of 3 cents to close at $3.22 as Barita Investments crossed 10 million units. Sagicor Group gained 10 cents to close at $23 with 102,424 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 77,925 shares changing hands to close with a rise of 56 cents at $31.56, Scotia Investments had 1,000 shares trading to close with a gain of $1.90 at $29.90. Supreme Ventures closed at $6.20 and gained of 20 cents with 70,381 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 77,700 units to close at 22.89 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 179,778 units at $2.25 after regaining 15 cents.

JSE in big pull back on Thursday

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with sharp fall in the indices on Thursday with trading volumes being relatively light. Market activities closed with 42 securities changing hands in all market segments, 16 of which gained in the combined markets and 11 declined.
Two stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 8,147,718 units valued at $82,326,591 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 2,952,252 units changed hands, valued at $17,175,945.
The JSE Market Index fell sharply by 2,439.44 points to 159,591.63 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a big decline of 2,726.20 points to end at 177,308.95 and the JSE combined index dropped 3,176.12 points to close at 169,880.83.

Caribbean Cement shares closed at a new high of $28

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with moderate gains in the indices on Wednesday with trading volumes being light. Market activities close with 42 securities changing hands in all market segments of which 16 securities in the combined markets gained and 12 declined.
Five stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 4,514,100 units valued at $80,222,876 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 920,944 units changed hands, valued at $5,787,289.
The JSE Market Index jumped sharply by 2,558.24 points to 162,031.07 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a big gain of 2,858.97 points to end at 180,035.15 and the JSE combined index rose 2,543.90 points to close at 173,056.95.

Sagicor Group closed at $23 with 7,704 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 52,946 shares at $11.60, Scotia Group had 179,497 shares changing hands to close with a gain of $1.50 at $32, Scotia Investments had 200,000 shares changing hands to close with a decline of $3.49 at $26.50. Seprod rose 50 cents to close at $20.50 with 109,692 units changing hands. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $6.55 to record a gain of 6 cents with 64,920 units changing hands, the stock traded at an all-time high of $6.90 during the day, Proven Investments ordinary share lost 2 US cents in trading 1,244,550 units at 20 US cents and JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 137,308 units at $2.25.

Market activity picked up on Tuesday

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with moderate gains in the indices on Tuesday with trading volumes being light. Market activities picked up from the 33 securities that traded on Monday to close with 43 changing hands in all market segments of which 22 securities in the combined markets gained and 14 declined.
Eight stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and one traded at intraday highs as 4,319,632 units valued at $43,703,774 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 147.39 points to 159,472.83 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 164.72 points to end at 177,176.18 and the JSE combined index rose 175.31 points to close at 170,513.05.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 8 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 2 with lower offers.
At the end of the market activities, Berger Paints gained 29 cents to end at $3.60 as 103,176 units traded, Cable and Wireless ended with 268,670 units changing hands to close with a gain of 1 cent at $1.57, Caribbean Cement rose $1 to close at $25, with 54,507 shares changing hands. Carreras traded 86,825 shares at $62.50, Gleaner traded 10,560 units with a loss of 7 cents at $2.60, Grace Kennedy jumped $1.49 and closed at $83.49, with 13,200 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers rose by 49 cents and closed at 52 weeks’ high of $14 with 561,626 shares changing hands. Jamaica Producers lost $2 to end at $29 with 15,812 shares changing hands, Jamaica Stock Exchange gained 3 cents to close at $19.70 while trading 199,677 shares, JMMB Group traded 112,847 units to end with a rise of 28 cents at $11. Kingston Properties traded 79,853 shares but lost 24 cents to end at $6.80, Kingston Wharves traded 11,310 units to close with a fall of 1 cent at $11.14, Margaritaville Turks traded 27,000 shares at 11.05 US cents with a rise of 0.05 cents. Mayberry Investments traded 201,632 shares and fell 35 cents to close at $4.50. National Commercial Bank traded with a rise of $1.75 to close at $41.75, with 45,227 units changing hands, Pan Jamaican Investment gained $2 with 10,830 units changing hands to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $98, Pulse Investments gained 10 cents to end at $2.60 while trading 19,848 shares. Sagicor Group fell by 5 cents to close at $23 with 189,997 units changing hands, Sagicor Real Estate Fund traded 74,254 shares but the price rose 1 cent to $11.60, Scotia Group had 460,994 shares changing hands to close with a loss of $1.50 at $30.50, Seprod had 10,000 units changing hands at $20, for a rise of $1. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ high of $6.49 to record a gain of $1.49 with 223,971 units changing hands, the stock traded at an all-time high of $6.90 during the day. Proven Investments ordinary share traded 184,364 units at 22 US cents, JMMB 7.5% preference share traded 152,692 units at $2.25 after rising 15 cents and Proven Investments preference share traded 77,800 units at $5.

Grace’s $160m trade on Monday

Grace Kennedy traded 1.9m shares valued at $160m on Monday.

Main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed with strong gains in the indices on Monday as Grace Kennedy traded 1.9 million units carrying a value of $160 million. The other big trade was in National Commercial Bank shares with over 2 million units changing hands with a value of $88.6 million.
Market activities slowed with only 33 securities changing hands in all market segments compared to recent levels around 40 or more per day for January. At the close of trading session, the combined index added 2,291 points with 13 securities in the combined markets gaining and 16 declining.
Three stocks closed at 52 weeks’ highs and two traded at intraday highs as 8,596,958 units valued at $285,106,122 changed hands in all markets. The junior market accounted for 1,200,794 units changed hands, valued at $ 5,249,310.
The JSE Market Index advanced by 2,618.88 points to 159,325.44 the all Jamaica Composite Index closed with a gain of 2,926.75 points to end at 177,011.46 and the JSE combined index rose 2,290.59 points to close at 170,337.74.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was 12 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 with lower offers.
At the end of the market activities, Barita Investments closed with 200,500 shares as the price lost 13 cents to end at $3.90. The company confirmed on Monday that they are on target to release the audited accounts to September last year, this week. Berger Paints closed with a loss of 29 cents at $3.31 as 337,791 units traded, Cable and Wireless ended with 415,800 units changing hands to close with a gain of 5 cents at $1.56, Caribbean Cement rose $2 to close at $24, with 425,288 shares changing hands. Carreras fell 55 cents in trading 1,956 shares at $62.50, Ciboney gained 3 cents in trading 200,555 shares at 27 cents, Gleaner traded 3,000 units with a gain of 27 cents at $2.67, Grace Kennedy shed $2 and closed at $82, with 1,949,435 units changing hands. Jamaica Broilers rose by 1 cent and closed at 52 weeks’ high of $13.51 with 80,536 shares changing hands. Jamaica Stock Exchange lost 3 cents to close at $19.67 while trading 5,740 shares, JMMB Group traded 1,042,305 units to end with a loss of 28 cents at $10.72. Kingston Wharves traded 30,400 units to close with a rise of 15 cents at $11.15, Mayberry Investments traded 8,450 shares and gained 15 cents to close at $4.85, National Commercial Bank traded with a loss of $3 to close at $40, with 2,199,601 units changing hands. Sagicor Group fell by 20 cents to close at $23.05 with 61,650 units changing hands, Scotia Group had 59,199 shares changing hands to close with a gain of $1.59 at $32, Scotia Investments had 30,814 units changing hands at $30, for a rise of $2. Sterling Investments traded 100,000 units with a loss of 10 cents to end at $12.90, Supreme Ventures traded at an intraday 52 weeks’ high of $6.50 but ended at $5.50 with 72,434 units changing hands, Proven Investments ordinary share traded 16,950 units at 22 US cents and JMMB 7.5% Preference share traded 151,000 units at $2.10 after losing a cent.
