Junior Market rose in September

More stocks gained than declined on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with the market rising after the volume of shares trading jumped 1,341 percent over Tuesday’s level, with the newly listed Tropical Battery accounting for 34 percent of the day’s volume.
Trading ended with 33 securities changing hands, compared to 34 on Tuesday and ended with the prices of 15 stocks rising, the prices of 12 stocks declining, with six, remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index gained 35.55 points to settle at the highest point since mid-August at 2,555.68 and the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.9 based on IC Insider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 16,863,058 shares for $25,635,940 compared to 1,170,245 units at $5,056,500 on Tuesday. GWest Corporation led trading with 45.5 percent of the day’s volume in trading 7.67 million shares, followed by Tropical Battery with 34.2 percent of the day’s trade, accounting for 5.76 million units and Fontana with 6.6 percent market share amounting to 1.11 million units.
Trading ended with an average of 511,002 units at $776,847 in contrast to 34,419 at $148,721 on Tuesday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 119,171 units at $249,355, in comparison to 99,609 units at $223,021 on Tuesday. Trading in August ended, with an average of 104,414 units at $321,996 trading.

Caribbean Flavours closed at $17, after losing $1.16 with 18,437 stock units changing hands, Caribbean Producers gained 5 cents to end at $2.35, with 483,222 shares clearing the market, Derrimon Trading shed 13 cents to settle at $2.80 as investors switched ownership of 60,873 shares. Elite Diagnostic gained 3 cents to finish at $3.15 trading 35,542 stock units, Everything Fresh lost 7 cents to settle at 64 cents after exchanging 63,318 shares, Express Catering ended at $4.08, with a loss of 2 cents and 1,565 units changing hands. Fontana carved out a gain of 27 cents to close at $5, after finishing with the transfer of 1,109,904 shares, Fosrich advanced 17 cents to $3.68 trading 255,255 shares, General Accident gained 6 cents to end at $6.36, in transferring 22,000 stock units. GWest Corporation carved out a loss 14 cents to settle at 81 cents in trading 7,670,526 shares, Honey Bun lost 5 cents to end at $4.80, with 6,684 units crossing the exchange, iCreate lost 1 cent to end at 74 cents, with investors swapping 2,400 stock units. Indies Pharma advanced 13 cents to $2.93, in exchanging 278,260 shares, Jamaican Teas jumped 53 cents to $4.83, with 161,040 shares crossing the exchange, Jetcon Corporation shed 18 cents to settle at 81 cents, with a transfer of 288,766 shares. Knutsford Express lost 10 cents to close at $6.80, in trading 3,149 units, Lasco Distributors lost 2 cents, ending at $3.08 with 6,900 stock units passing through the market, Lasco Financial gained 2 cents to settle at $2.10, in exchanging 73,600 shares. Mailpac Group rose 4 cents to end at $2.09 in trading 104,216 shares, Medical Disposables carved out a gain of 1 cent to close at $5.03, with 4,217 stock units crossing the market. Tropical Battery rose 29 cents to end at a new closing high of $1.29, after exchanging 5,764,184 shares on the first day of the being listed after a successful public offer. SSL Venture gained 2 cents to close at 56 cents, in an exchange of 261,459 shares, Stationery and Office Supplies advanced 19 cents to end at $4.20, with four stock units crossing the market and tTech shed 28 cents in closing at $6 after 1,960 stock units changing hands.

Junior Market breaks winning streak

After four consecutive days of gains, the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange lost altitude on Tuesday, after more stocks fell than rose as 45 percent fewer shares traded than on Monday.
Trading ended with 34 securities changing hands compared to 33 on Monday and concluded with the prices of nine stocks rising, the prices of 15 declining and 10 with prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market index fell 27.35 points to close at 2,520.13. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.7 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 1,170,245 shares for $5,056,500 compared to 2,115,554 units at $5,271,667 on Monday. Fontana led trading with 44.3 percent of total volume with an exchange of 518,595 shares, followed by Mailpac Group with 11.4 percent of the day’s trade or 133,095 units and Derrimon Trading with 95,492 units for 8.2 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 34,419 units at $148,721 in contrast to 64,108 at $159,747 on Monday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 99,609 units at $223,021, compared to 103,144 units at $227,050 on Monday. Trading in August resulted in an average of 104,414 units at $321,996.

Four days of gains for Junior Market

Another day of a rising market brought the total to four consecutive days of the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange after more stocks declined than rose, with 7 percent fewer shares trading than on Friday.
Trading ended with 33 securities changing hands compared to 31 on Friday and closed with the prices of nine stocks rising, 11 declining and 13 remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index squeezed out a rise of 8.31 points to close at $2,547.48. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.8 based on IC Insider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 2,115,554 shares for $5,271,667 compared to 2,268,215 units at $5,993,926 on Friday. Mailpac Group led trading with 27.5 percent of total volume for 581,872 shares, followed by Lumber Depot with 24.8 percent or 523,710 units and Jamaican Teas with 279,830 units, 13.2 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 64,108 units at $159,747 in contrast to 73,168 at $193,352 on Friday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 103,144 units at $227,050 compared to 105,313 units at $212,908 on Friday. Trading in August resulted in an average of 104,414 units at $321,996.

Caribbean Producers lost 5 cents to settle at $2.30, after clearing the market with 60,734 shares, Express Catering shed 50 cents in closing at $3.55, with 2,015 stock units crossing the exchange, Fosrich lost 30 cents to settle at $3.60, with 650 units crossing the market. Lasco Manufacturing declined 8 cents to $3.42, after exchanging 36,301 shares, Limners and Bards gained 5 cents to settle at $2.70, trading 98,619 shares, Lumber Depot carved out a loss 10 cents in closing at 95 cents, in exchanging 523,710 shares. Mailpac Group gained 3 cents to settle at $2.08, in trading 581,872 shares and Medical Disposables lost 2 cents to finish at $5.06, with an exchange of 173 units.
In the preference segment of the market, CAC 2000 9.5% preference shares rose 15 cents to end at $1.17 trading 24 units.

Oversubscribed public stock issues were the most pronounced development in the Jamaican stock market for the past two weeks. Barita Investments raised $13.5 billion from the public offer of new ordinary shares in the previous week and was joined by Tropical Battery, with their IPO that closed on the same day of opening, with a raise of $325 million.

Barita, a former IC Buy Rated stock capital raise, resulted in its share capital more than doubling from $10.88 billion to $24.4 billion and the overall equity capital moving to $28.74 billion. The stock price climbed to $77 at the close on Friday and provided investors in the APO with a nice 48 percent gain and more for smaller investors who bought at $49.
For a third consecutive week, there was no change in the companies on the IC TOP 10 listings, with the markets moving moderately higher partially helped by the rise in the price of Barita’s stock.
With the two public share issues out of the way, the Jamaica Stock Exchange market indices rose during the week with the JSE Main Market indices closing at the highest point since August 3 while the Junior Market was highest since August 26. The week’s movement reversed the negative effect the two issues had in diverting funds away from the market.
The top three stocks in each market saw no change in ranking for the top three Junior Market stocks, with the potential to gain between 295 to 709 percent by March 2021. Caribbean Producers heads the list, followed by Lasco Financial and Elite Diagnostic. The focus on all three is the 2021 fiscal year results, projected to show recovery from the 2020 financial year final numbers. The top three Main Market stocks, with expected gains of 205 to 231 percent, are Radio Jamaica, followed by Berger Paints and JMMB Group.
The targeted average PE ratio of the market is 20 based on the profits of companies reporting full year’s results, from now to the second quarter in 2021. Both the Junior Market and the Main Market are currently trading well below this level, indicating the potential gains ahead. The JSE Main Market ended the week, with an overall PE of 14.8 and the Junior Market 11.2, based on IC Insider.com’s projected 2020-21 earnings. The average PE ratio of the Junior Market has been slowly rising, with better profit opportunities than the Main Market and narrowing the gap. The PE ratio for the Junior Market Top 10 stocks average a mere six at just 54 percent to the average of the overall Junior Market. The Main Market TOP 10 stocks trade at a PE of 8.3 or 56 percent of the PE of the overall market.
The average projected gain for the Junior Market IC TOP 10 stocks is 280 percent, and 151 percent for the JSE Main Market, based on 2020-21 earnings, indicates potentially more significant gains in the Junior Market than in the Main Market.
IC TOP 10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to March 2021 and ranked in order of potential gains, based on the possible increase for each company, taking into account the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year. Expected values will change as stock prices fluctuate and will result in movements of the selection in and out of the lists for most weeks. Revisions to earnings per share are ongoing, based on receipt of new information.

More gains for the Junior Market – Friday

There were more gains for the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange at the close on Friday, following gains on two previous days, with the market index rising after trading picked up, with 33 percent more shares changing hands with a 48 percent increase in value than on Thursday.
Trading concluded with 31 securities changing hands compared to 33 on Thursday and ended with 10 stocks rising, the prices of 13 declining and eight with prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index carved out a meager gain of 5.05 points to settle at 2,539.17. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.8 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 2,268,215 shares for $5,993,926 compared to 1,700,358 units at $4,040,852 on Thursday. Mailpac Group led trading with 38.5 percent of total volume, with an exchange of 872,171 shares, followed by Lumber Depot with 15.1 percent of the day’s trade or 342,738 units for and Fontana carved out an 8.7 percent market share with 198,418 units.
Trading ended with an average of 73,168 units at $193,352, up from 51,526 at $122,450 on Thursday. The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed higher on Thursday, as the number of stocks rising and falling held even after 56 percent fewer shares changed hands than on Wednesday.
Trading concluded with 33 securities changing hands compared to 23 on Wednesday and ended, with the prices of 10 stocks rising, the prices of 10 declining and 13 with prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index gained 11.7 points to settle at 2,534.12. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.9 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.

Gains for the Junior Market – Wednesday

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Wednesday, with the market rising after more stocks rose than fell as investors traded 41 percent fewer shares than on Tuesday.
Trading ended with 23 securities changing hands compared to 34 on Tuesday and ended with the prices of 13 stocks rising, the prices of four declining and six with prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index rose 24.97 points to settle at 2,522.42. The average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.8 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 3,872,328 shares for $9,887,155 compared to 6,509,165 units at $8,991,954 on Tuesday.
Mailpac Group led trading with 26.9 percent of total volume with an exchange of 1.04 million shares, followed by Lumber Depot with 25.9 percent of the day’s trade or 1 million units and Lasco Manufacturing with 997,707 units for 25.8 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 168,362 units at $429,876 in contrast to 191,446 at $264,469 on Tuesday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 110,542 units at $239,724, in comparison to 107,919 units at 231,098 on Tuesday. Trading in August resulted in an average of 104,426 units at $321,996.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading for the market shows three stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and four with lower offers.
At the close of the market, Access Financial gained $2.48 to end at $24.98 with 1,310 units traded, AMG Packaging advanced 1 cent to settle at $1.80 with 14,478 stock units passing through the market, Blue Power finished 1 cent higher at $3.31 in an exchange of 26,100 units. Cargo Handlers jumped $1.84 to close at $8 with 66,001 shares changing hands, Caribbean Assurance Brokers rose 2 cents to end at $1.90 with investors transferring 22,145 units, Caribbean Producers fell 6 cents to settle at $2.30 with 28,165 stock units traded. Fontana increased by 2 cents to finish at $4.72 in an exchange of 67,625 stock units, General Accident gained 5 cents to close at $6.20 with 85,000 stocks passing through the market, iCreate declined by 4 cents to end at 68 cents with 6,390 units changing hands. Indies Pharma advanced 6 cents and traded 5,890 shares to settle at $2.83, Jamaican Teas closed 4 cents higher at $4.39 with 200,526 units traded, Jetcon Corporation climbed 3 cents to finish at 86 cents with 70,005 shares passing through the market. Limners and Bards gained 24 cents to end at $2.75 with investors switching ownership of 110,360 units, Lumber Depot exchanged 1,001,000 stock units and lost 3 cents to settle at $1.07, Mailpac Group fell 4 cents to $2.05 with 1,039,938 shares changing hands. Medical Disposables climbed 15 cents to close at $5 with a mere 5 units traded and Stationery and Office Supplies jumped 59 cents to finish at $5.60 with 299 shares crossing the exchange.

Junior Market loses ground – Tuesday

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed lower on Tuesday after surging higher during morning activity after more stocks rose than fell with trading resulted in 192 percent more shares changing hands at over twice the value as on Monday.
Trading concluded with 34 securities changing hands compared to 32 on Monday and ended with 14 stocks rising, the prices of 12 declining and eight stock prices remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index lost 22.73 points to settle at 2,497.45, with the average PE Ratio ended at 10.5 based on IC Insider.com’s forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 6,509,165 shares for $8,991,954 compared to 2,230,691 units at $4,393,330 on Monday.
Lumber Depot led trading with 84.7 percent of total market volume, with 5.51 million shares, followed by Mailpac Group with 6.9 percent or 446,478 units and Limners and Bards with 114,036 units for 1.8 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 191,446 units at $264,469 in contrast to 69,709 at $137,292 on Monday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 107,919 units at $231,098 compared to 101,915 units at $228,699on Monday. Trading in August resulted in an average of 104,426 units at $321,996.

Caribbean Flavours jumped $1.15 to close at $18.19 after trading 25,927 units, Consolidated Bakeries rose 12 cents to end at $1.49 with investors switching ownership of 364 shares, Elite Diagnostic fell 19 cents to settle at $3.20 in an exchange of 1,863 units. Everything Fresh gained 6 cents to finish at 71 cents with investors transferring 9,769 stock units, Express Catering slipped 5 cents to $4.20 with 2,041 stocks changing hands, Fontana closed 5 cents higher at $4.70 with 89,256 stock units traded. General Accident shed 90 cents to end at $6.15 with 174 shares passing through the market, Honey Bun declined by 1 cent to finish at $4.99 in an exchange of 17,605 stock units, iCreate rose 10 cents to settle at 72 cents with investors switching ownership of 200 units. Indies Pharma lost 6 cents to end at $2.77 with 9,596 stocks changing hands, Iron Rock Insurance declined 5 cents to close at $3.05 with 10,166 stock units traded, Jamaican Teas climbed 10 cents to end at $4.35 with investors switching ownership of 66,650 stock units. Jetcon Corporation slid 3 cents to 83 cents with 82,906 units passing through the market, Lasco Distributors dropped 10 cents to close at $3 in an exchange of 816 stock units, Lasco Financial rose 5 cents to finish at $2.13 with 28,738 stocks traded. Lasco Manufacturing slipped 2 cents to $3.50 with investors transferring 26,989 units, Limners and Bards shed 18 cents to end at $2.51 with 114,036 units passing through the market, Lumber Depot increased by 6 cents to finish at $1.10 with 5,514,662 stock units changing hands. Mailpac Group gained 4 cents to settle at $2.09 in an exchange of 446,478 stocks, Main Event lost 1 cent to close at $3.37 with investors switching ownership of 3,954 units, Medical Disposables climbed 30 cents to finish at $4.85 with 97 stock units changing hands. Stationery and Office Supplies rose 1 cent to end at $5.01 after trading 11,102 stock units and tTech advanced 20 cents to end at $6 with a mere seven stocks crossing the exchange.

Junior Market rose on Monday

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Monday, with the market rising after more stocks fell than rose as 28 percent fewer shares changed hands than on Friday with just six percent lower value.
Trading ended with 32 securities changing hands compared to 31 on Friday and ended with the prices of nine stocks rising, the prices of 15 declining and eight, with remaining unchanged.
At the close, the Junior Market Index advanced 23.08 points to settle at 2,520.18, the average PE Ratio of the market ended at 10.5 based on IC Insider.com forecast of 2020-21 earnings.
The market closed with an exchange of 2,230,691 shares for $4,393,330 compared to 3,117,697 units at $4,670,235 on Friday. Lumber Depot led trading with 37 percent of total volume after 824,663 shares were exchanged followed by Mailpac Group with 33.3 percent or 742,481 stock units and Caribbean Assurance Brokers with 95,620 units for 4.3 percent market share.
Trading ended with an average of 69,709 units at $137,292 in contrast to 100,571 at $150,653 on Friday. For the month to date, the average trade resulted in an exchange of 101,915 units at $228,699 in comparison to 104,252 units at $235,332 on Friday. Trading in August resulted in an average of 104,414 units at $321,996 trading.

Caribbean Producers gained 1 cent in closing at $2.36 with 15,055 shares changing hands, Consolidated Bakeries finished at $1.37, after losing 12 cents with 3,213 units crossing the market, Derrimon Trading lost 5 cents to settle at $2.85, with investors switching ownership of 4,099 shares. Elite Diagnostic gained 34 cents after exchanging a mere 8 stock units, to settle at $3.39, Express Catering lost 5 cents to end at $4.25 in trading 11,540 units. Fontana slipped 5 cents to close at $4.65 after exchanging 57,485 shares, General Accident gained 5 cents to end at $7.05, in transferring 3,000 units, GWest Corporation lost 1 cent to finish at 97 cents after exchanging 20 units. Indies Pharma slipped 1 cent to $2.83, in transferring 4,895 shares, Iron Rock Insurance closed at $3.10, after gaining 10 cents with 13,319 stock units crossing the market, Jamaican Teas lost 30 cents to settle at $4.25, with 37,304 shares changing hands. Lasco Distributors rose 10 cents to end at $3.10, in an exchange of 42,982 shares, Lasco Financial lost 2 cents to close at $2.08, with 59,055 shares clearing the market, Limners and Bards gained 12 cents to close at $2.69 after investors switched the ownership of 60,313 shares. Lumber Depot shed 5 cents to end at $1.04 with 824,663 shares crossing the market, Mailpac Group dipped 3 cents to $2.05, with 742,481 shares changing hands, Medical Disposables dropped 59 cents to settle at $4.55, in transferring 11,448 stock units. Paramount Trading gained 11 cents to close at $1.41, with investors swapping 1,000 units, SSL Venture rose 5 cents to 75 cents in trading 2,459 units and Stationery and Office Supplies fell 58 cents to $5 in exchanging 13,215 stock units.
In the preference segment of the market, Derrimon Trading preference shares rose 10 cents to close at $2 in trading 8,017 stock units.

Another quiet week for IC TOP 10

For a second consecutive week, there were no changes in the companies on the IC TOP 10 listings, with the markets going sideways and little or no significant price moving news.

Barita public stock offer pulled money away from other JSE stocks.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange market activity was negatively affected by funds diverted away from the as investors moved money into the successful Barita Investments issue of new shares. The Issue closed on Wednesday gone and was upsized to $13.5 billion, resulting in a more than doubling of the issued shares from $10.88 billion to $24.38 billion and the overall equity capital to $28.74 billion.
The past week that saw the local market trading in a narrow range, with the Junior Market closing slightly down for the week after ending the previous week at the highest point since August 28 and the Main Market had the highest weekly close since the end of August.
The top three stocks in each market saw no change in ranking, leaving the top three Junior Market stocks, with the potential to gain between 292 to 695 percent by March 2021. Caribbean Producers heads the list, followed by Lasco Financial and Elite Diagnostic. The focus on all three is on the 2021 fiscal year results projected to show recovery from the 2020 financial year final numbers. The top three Main Market stocks, with expected gains of 204 to 228 percent, are Radio Jamaica, followed by Berger Paints, with the price rising 7 percent during the week and JMMB Group.
This week’s focus – Tropical Battery issue for 325 million ordinary shares at $1 each of with up to 187.5 million units reserved for priority applications, opens Tuesday, September 22, with the scheduled closing of September 30, subject to the right of the Company to close it earlier. With earnings per share around 7.7 cents, the stock is priced around a PE ratio of 13 times 2020 earnings, leaving little or no room for short term gains as it is priced 19 percent above the market average.
The targeted average PE ratio of the market is 20 based on the profits of companies reporting full year’s results, from now to the second quarter in 2021. Both the Junior and Main markets are currently trading well below this level, indicating the potential gains ahead. The JSE Main Market ended the week, with an overall PE of 15.3 and the Junior Market 11, based on IC Insider.com’s projected 2020-21 earnings. The average PE ratio of the Junior Market has been slowly rising, with better profit opportunities than the Main Market and narrowing the gap. The PE ratio for the Junior Market Top 10 stocks average a mere six at just 55 percent to the average of the overall Junior Market. The Main Market TOP 10 stocks trade at a PE of 8.2 or 54 percent of the PE of the overall market.
The average projected gain for the Junior Market IC TOP 10 stocks is 280 percent, and 151 percent for the JSE Main Market, based on 2020-21 earnings, indicates potentially more significant gains in the Junior Market than in the Main Market.
IC TOP 10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns up to March 2021 and ranked in order of potential gains, based on possible gain for each Company, taking into account the earnings and PE ratios for the current fiscal year. Expected values will change as stock prices fluctuate and will result in movements of the selection in and out of the lists for most weeks. Revisions to earnings per share are ongoing, based on receipt of new information.
