Junior Market suffers big fall – Wednesday

Trading on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended on Wednesday with the market Index dropping sharply by 89.34 points to close at 3,426.95 as Access Financial dived $5, General Accident dipped 60 cents and Stationery and Office Supplies dropped 79 cents.  
Trading ended with 28 securities changing hands with prices of 11 advancing, 11 declining, 6 remaining unchanged and resulted in an exchange of 5,067,017 units valued at $23,716,252 compared to 2,138,664 units at $11,183,538 from 30 securities changing hands on Tuesday.
Trading closed with an average of 180,965 units for an average of $847,009 in contrast to 71,289 units for an average of $372,785 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to  124,236 units valued at $601,721. In contrast, September closed with an average of 954,574 units valued at $2,612,695 for each security traded.

Lasco Financial ended with 94,729 shares crossing the exchange, after rising 5 cents to end at $5.05, Lasco Manufacturing closed with a loss of 20 cents at $5.20, after swapping 31,500 shares. Limners and Bards closed 7 cents higher at $2.82, with 88,901 stock units trading, Paramount Trading lost 20 cents in trading of 6,721 units at $2 and Stationery and Office Supplies dipped 79 cents in trading of 62,770 units to end at $10.80.

Junior Market starts October down

The trend of a large number of stocks rising at the end of one month, followed by falling prices at the start of the next, was evident at the end of September and October on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
Market activities closed on Tuesday with 30 securities changing hands, resulting in the prices of 7 securities advanced, 16 declined and 6 remained unchanged in contrast to 26 trading with 10 rising and 7 falling. At the close, the Junior Market Index declined 16.96 points to 3,516.31.
Trading resulted in an exchange of 2,138,664 units valued at $11,183,538 down sharply from 6,210,149 units valued at $22,471,302 trading on Monday.
Trading ended with an average of 71,289 units for an average of $372,785 in contrast to 238,852 units for an average of $864,281 on Monday. In contrast, September closed with an average of 954,574 units valued at $2,612,695 for each security traded.

IC TOP 10 focus on QWI

Attention by investors seems set to be focused on QWI Investments, which commences trading on Monday, but being the end of the month, investors could be seeing other stocks recording interesting movements.
Buy Rated stocks had few changes with Elite Diagnostic and Express Catering climbing back into the Junior Market TOP 10 with the price of Elite dropping to $5.40 from $5.60 at the end of the previous week while Seprod returns to the main market list at the expense of Scotia Group.
Slipping out of the IC TOP 10 listing is Jetcon Corporation that remained at $1.80, Main Event earnings were adjusted down with the decline of profit reported in the July quarter due to increased cost that exceeded revenues and Scotia Group rose to $60 from $57.50 and dropped out of the TOP 10.
Market activity, resulted in Caribbean Producers with projected gains of 244 percent being the leading Junior Market stock with potential gains, followed by Iron Rock with likely gains of 200 percent and Medical Disposables with projected gains of 186 percent.
Radio Jamaica closed the week with projected gains of 194 percent as the leading main market stock with the price falling to $1.70 from $1.90 during the week. Berger Paints sits at the number two spot with projected gains of 132 percent as more interest comes in for this stock coupled with reduced selling ahead of the most important quarter coming up when sales exceed all other quarters and Carreras with projected gains of 112 percent.
The main market closed the week with the overall PE of 17.7 up from 16.7 the previous week and the Junior Market is up to 11.7 from 11.3 based on current year’s earnings. The PE ratio for Junior Market Top 10 stocks averages 7.9 compared to 7.8 the previous week and the main market PE remains at 10.4. These levels of PE ratios point to big upside for TOP 10 stocks.
The TOP 10 stocks now trade at an average discount of 32 percent to the average for the Junior Market Top stocks and main market stocks trade at a discount of 41 percent to the overall market.
TOP 10 stocks are likely to deliver the best returns to March next year. Projected earnings, along with the PE ratio for each company’s current fiscal year are used in determining potential gains with the likely gains ranked in descending order with highest-ranked being the most attractive. Access fall sinks Junior Market – Monday

Access Financial Services’ traded at a 52 weeks’ low of $34.85 on Monday.

Access Financial Services dropped $5.14 to help knock 50.49 points off the Market Index at the end of trading on Monday following an announcement of a proposal to sell 68.6 million shares owned by Proven Investments at $32 each.
The Junior Market fall pushed the index to close at 3,398.78 on Monday with 29 securities changing hands, resulting in the prices of 11 securities gaining, 14 declined and 4 remained unchanged.

IC TOP 10 relatively stable

Jamaica Broilers announced a new acquisition last week

The Jamaica stock market was impacted last week by fresh share insurances and acquisitions by two IC TOP 10 listed companies.
Investors’ attention was on pumping funds into Barita Investmentsrights issue and QWI Investmentsinitial public offering in the past week and led to more muted market activity, with the latter attracting more than 4,000 investors and in excess of $1.5 billion.
Other major developments in the past week were the announcement that TOP 10 BUY RATED General Accident picked up 55 percent of the Trinidad based Motor One Insurance company but investors hardly seem to notice. Another Top 10 listing, Jamaica Broilers announced yet another takeover of a poultry processing plant in the USA. Market activity in the coming week will be further affected with Proven Investments selling half of their holdings in Access Financial stock by way of a public offer, at an attractive price of $32 each. Market conditions resulted in just two changes to IC TOP 10 BUY RATED list as CAC 2000 returned to the top 10 Junior Market list, replacing Caribbean Cream and Scotia Group moved back into the main market listing at the expense of Seprod.
Changes in prices left Caribbean Producers with projected gains of 233 percent, followed Iron Rock by with likely gains of 201 percent and tTech with projected gains of 167 percent as the three most attractive Junior Market stocks.

The PE ratio for Junior Market Top 10 stocks averages 7.8 compared to 7.7 the previous week and the main market PE slips to 10.4. These levels of PE ratios point to big upside for TOP 10 stocks.
The TOP 10 stocks now trade at an average discount of 31 percent to the average for the Junior Market Top stocks and main market stocks trade at a discount of 38 percent to the overall market.

Medical Disposables lost 60 cents trading 5,000 shares to close at $7.40, Main Event had 2,500 shares changing hands, after rising 4 cents to end at $5.61, Paramount Trading closed with a loss of 8 cents higher at $1.70, with 100 stock units trading and tTech closed trading of 4,421 units and gained 30 cents to end at $5.90.

More Junior Market stocks rose

The Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Wednesday with a slight dip in the market Index of 3.64 points to close at 3,444.70 as more stocks rose than declined.  
 IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading was negative and pointing to the possibility of more declines as 5 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and 4 closing with lower offers.
At the close of market activities, the prices of 11 securities advanced, 7 declined and 9 remained unchanged with 27 securities changing hands, compared to 30 on Monday and resulting in an exchange of 53,025,384 units valued at $252,714,577 compared to 2,481,939 units valued at $10,695,407 on Tuesday.
Trading ended with an average of 1,963,903 units for an average of $9,359,799 in contrast to 82,731 units for an average of $356,514 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to units 1,421,017 valued at $3,530,472 and previously 1,502,456 units for $3,331,836. August ended with an average of 232,398 units valued at $1,072,851 for each traded security.
Stocks closing with price changes| AMG Packaging ended market activity exchanging 471,175 shares to close at $1.80 after falling 20 cents, Caribbean Producers climbed 5 cents after investors exchanged 51,245,360 shares to close at $4.80, Derrimon Trading climbed 8 cents and exchanged 12,870 shares at $2.55. Fontana closed 35 cents higher at $8.10, with 227,440 stock units trading, General Accident climbed 85 cents and exchanged 108,732 shares at $6.40 but only after it traded at an intraday high of $7.20. Honey Bun ended trading with 10,317 shares, after rising 18 cents to end at $5.99, Indies Pharma climbed 8 cents and exchanged 28,817 shares at $3.45, Iron Rock Insurance added 5 cents in exchanging 76,090 shares at $4. Limners and Bards ended with a loss of 1 cent at $2.95 with 166,362 stock units changing hands, Lasco Distributors dipped 19 cents in trading 174,577 units at $3.30, Lasco Financial closed trading of 11,430 units and gained 50 cents to end at $5. Lasco Manufacturing ended trading with 18,696 shares, after rising 16 cents to end at $5.46, Main Event declined by $1.38 to settle at $5.57, Stationery and Office Supplies closed trading of 58,500 units and gained 45 cents to end at $11.50 and tTech fell 30 cents in trading of 20,111 units at $5.60.
