Healthy trading pushes JSE Main Market higher

Trading pulled back on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Monday, from the robust levels on Friday with the volume of stocks traded diving by 86 percent and the value 65 percent lower, from trading in 62 securities compared with 63 on Friday, with prices of 26 rising, 25 declining and 11 ending unchanged.
The market closed with 18,149,104 shares being traded for $287,225,487 down from 127,873,060 stock units at $819,655,109 on Friday.
Trading averaged 292,727 shares at $4,632,669 compared to 2,029,731 units at $13,010,399 on Friday and month to date, an average of 613,311 stocks at $8,540,150 compared with 636,315 shares at $8,820,548 on the previous trading day and well above August with an average of 290,511 units at $2,258,494.
Transjamaican Highway led trading with 7.50 million shares for 41.3 percent of total volume followed by Kingston Wharves with 1.72 million stocks for 9.5 percent of the day’s trade, Jamaica Broilers chipped in with 1.72 million units for 9.5 percent of market share, GraceKennedy closed with 1.09 million stock units for 6 percent market share, Wigton Windfarm exchanged 1.05 million shares for 5.8 percent of trading and Mayberry Group with 1.01 million units for 5.5 percent of total volume.
The All Jamaican Composite Index rose 1,764.89 points to close at 350,128.30, the JSE Main Index rallied 2,750.13 points to 308,467.04 and the JSE Financial Index climbed 1.04 points to 64.84.
The Main Market ended trading with an average PE Ratio of 14.1. The JSE Main and USD Market PE ratios are based on last traded prices and earnings forecasts by ICInsider.com for companies with the financial year ending around August 2025.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 11 stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and one with a lower offer.
At the close, AS Bryden sank 50 cents in closing at $34.50 with 1,663 stock units crossing the exchange, Eppley lost 85 cents to end at $35.10 after a transfer of 482 shares, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund dipped 99 cents to end at $40.01 after closing with an exchange of 25 units. General Accident popped 40 cents and ended at $6.90 with an exchange of 2,081 stocks, GraceKennedy increased 99 cents to finish at $74.49 with 1,094,629 shares crossing the market, Guardian Holdings climbed $50.98 to close at $349.98 in switching ownership of 16,623 stocks. Jamaica Broilers sank 45 cents to $34.39 after 1,715,730 units passed through the market, Jamaica Stock Exchange slipped 47 cents to close at $10.18 with investors trading 1,684 stock units, Key Insurance fell 42 cents and ended at $2.35, with 82 shares crossing the market. Kingston Wharves shed 50 cents in closing at $26 in an exchange of 1,717,570 stocks, Margaritaville declined $2.27 to finish at $12.11 with investors swapping 120 units, Massy Holdings dipped 50 cents to end at $77.50 in an exchange of 3,856 stock units. MPC Caribbean Clean Energy rose $2 to $88 with traders dealing in 100 shares, NCB Financial rallied $1 to $53, with 228,207 stocks being traded, Pan Jamaica skidded $1.67 and ended at $47.28 with investors dealing in 8,325 stock units. Sagicor Group sank 49 cents in closing at $39.50 after an exchange of 81,376 stock units, Salada Foods dipped 35 cents to close at $3.05 with investors trading 1,091 shares, Stanley Motta fell 55 cents to end at $6.30 after an exchange of 81 stock units. Supreme Ventures advanced 95 cents to $21.99 with a transfer of 168,583 stocks and Wisynco Group rallied $1.41 to close at $21.44 after trading 57,594 units.
In the preference segment, Eppley 7.75% preference share popped 99 cents to finish at $19.99 with 11 stocks clearing the market, 138 Student Living preference share gained $37 and ended at $181 as investors exchanged 2 units and Sygnus Credit Investments C10.5% rose $2.11 in closing at $103.50 in trading 1 share.
