Falling stocks hit Trinidad Exchange

Falling stocks took a toll on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Friday, sending the market indices solidly down resulting from trading taking place in 19 securities up from 15 on Thursday and ending with prices of four stocks rising, 10 declining and five ending firm, following from a 75 percent rise in the volume of stocks traded with an 87 percent rise in value over Thursday’s trading.
The Composite Index sank 9.08 points to wrap up trading at 1,039.22, the All T&T Index lost 14.37 points to 1,552.49, the SME Index remained unchanged at 88.01 and the Cross-Listed Index shed 0.48 points to end the day at 68.57.
The market closed with trading of 454,784 shares valued at $2,276,245 compared to 259,851 stock units at $1,217,796 on Thursday.
An average of 23,936 shares were traded at $119,802 compared with 17,323 units at $81,186 on Thursday, with trading month to date averaging 52,648 shares at $367,610 compared with 56,781 stock units at $403,280 on the previous day and an average for September of 19,319 shares at $151,318.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reflected positive signals at the close with eight stocks ending with bids higher than their last selling prices and just one with a lower offer.
At the close, Ansa McAl skidded $2.79 to end at $60 with traders dealing in 2,000 stocks, First Citizens Group rallied 4 cents to $40.47 after 2,497 shares cleared the market, FirstCaribbean International Bank rose 1 cent to $7.05 after 710 stocks were traded. GraceKennedy climbed 5 cents to finish at $3.70 with 201,950 stock units crossing the exchange, Guardian Media sank 6 cents and ended at $1.49 after a transfer of 2,060 shares, JMMB Group ended at $1.05 after 7,500 stock passed through the market. L.J. Williams B share declined 2 cents to end at $1.56 after an exchange of 100 units, Massy Holdings shed 5 cents to close at $3.50 in trading 154,863 stocks, National Enterprises remained at $2.95 after an exchange of 43,967 shares. National Flour Mills remained at $1.76 with investors dealing in 2,000 stock units, NCB Financial dipped 2 cents to close at $2.38 after trading of 5,751 units, One Caribbean Media sank 12 cents to finish at $3.11 as investors exchanged 5,000 stocks. Point Lisas increased 2 cents to $3.12 in switching ownership of 135 units, Prestige Holdings ended at $10.50 with investors swapping 250 shares, Republic Financial lost 41 cents to finish at $111.49 in an exchange of 1,749 stock units. Scotiabank dipped 40 cents and ended at $56 with investors trading 4,878 stock units, Trinidad & Tobago NGL fell 23 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $4.75 with 11,736 shares passing the market, Unilever Caribbean remained at $10.50 with a transfer of 2,919 stock units and West Indian Tobacco dropped 89 cents to close at a 52 weeks’ low of $6.51, with 4,719 units changing hands.
