Declining stocks dominate Main market

Declining stocks controlled movements on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Main Market on Tuesday, following the trading of 61 securities up from 60 on Monday, resulting in prices of 16 stocks rising, 26 declining and 19 ending unchanged after an 11 percent rise in the volume of stocks traded valued 40 percent lower than on Monday.
The market closed with 7,176,622 shares being traded for $84,809,971 compared with 6,470,651 units at $140,689,420 on Monday.
Trading averaged 117,650 shares at $1,390,327 compared with 107,844 stock units at $2,344,824 on Monday and the month to date, an average of 198,689 units at $1,652,887 versus 215,446 shares at $1,707,179 on the previous day and September with an average of 592,167 stock units at $8,859,784.
Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 1.24 million shares for 17.3 percent of total volume followed by Wigton Windfarm with 1.10 million stock units for 15.3 percent of the day’s trade and Transjamaican Highway with 1.09 million units for 15.2 percent of the overall volume traded.
The All Jamaican Composite Index added just 27.96 points to end at 354,829.96, the JSE Main Index declined 1,540.23 points to conclude trading at 311,482.61 and the JSE Financial Index sank 0.27 points to finish at 65.56.
The Main Market ended trading with an average PE Ratio of 14.4. The JSE Main and USD Market PE ratios are based on last traded prices and earnings forecasts by ICInsider.com for companies with the financial year ending around August 2025.
Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows eight stocks ended with bids higher than their last selling prices and three with lower offers.
At the close, Barita Investments popped $1.10 in closing at $78.10 after 694 stock units passed through the market, Eppley dropped $1 to $32 in switching ownership of 3,783 shares, First Rock Real Estate sank 70 cents to end at $10 with investors swapping 13,652 units. Guardian Holdings slipped $35 to close at $330 with 112 stocks changing hands, JMMB Group increased $1.26 to finish at $24.26 after an exchange of 150,769 shares, Key Insurance climbed 52 cents and ended at $2.89 with 2,383 stocks crossing the market. Mayberry Group rose $1.13 to $8.29 as investors exchanged 10,174 units, NCB Financial fell 98 cents and ended at $50.02 after a transfer of 283,143 stock units, Portland JSX rallied 50 cents to finish at $10.80 with 11 shares crossing the market. Scotia Group lost 50 cents to end at $45 in an exchange of 68,402 stock units, Seprod skidded $2 in closing at $83 with traders dealing in 14,248 units, Supreme Ventures sank $1.30 to close at $21.60 in an exchange of 33,242 units. Sygnus Credit Investments declined 70 cents to $11.30 and closed after an exchange of 45,833 shares, Sygnus Real Estate Finance shed 78 cents to end at $9.75 with investors trading 493 units and Wisynco Group gained 54 cents in closing at $21.04 after an exchange of 288,366 stocks.
In the preference segment, Sygnus Credit Investments C10.5% dipped 50 cents to finish at $105 in trading 737 stock units.
