Monday, 16th December 2013 | Forex trading saw heavy trading on the first business day of the winter tourist season as dealers bought US$9 million more in all currencies than they sold. Overall a total of US$54,828,831 equivalent in all currencies was purchased by dealers and the equivalent of US$45,867,142 was sold.

The rate for buying the US dollar fell 3 cents as US$48,835,691 was bought at $105.71 and S$40,757,115 was sold at $106.12, unchanged from Friday’s closing rate. C$2,140,407 was purchased and the rate fell by 47 cents to end at $97.74 and C$1,173,720 was sold as the rate moved by 36 cents to $100.28. Authorised dealers bought £1,946,239 for $171.39 each, down 13 cents from Friday’s close and sold £1,811,434 at $173.98, an increase of 32 cents. Other currencies bought amounted to the equivalent of US$858,645 and US$1,031,134 sold.

Highs & Lows | The United States dollar was stable with unchanged rates of $107.00 for the highest and $86.01 for the lowest buying rate and $110.21 for the highest selling rate but the lowest selling rate fell to $85.84, a fall of $16.56.

The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar came out at $100.80, a fall of 70 cents and the lowest buying rate was 46 cents down at $79.22, while the highest selling rate moved up 28 cents to $103.00 but dropped sharply by $16.78 to hit $79.22.

The highest buying rate for the Pound was $174.20, a reduction 65 cents and the lowest buying rate came out at $138.20, a fall of 83 cents while the high for selling stood at $178.16 as it gained 96 cents and the low fell $1 to $166.50.

Friday, 13th December 2013 | Dealers bought US$4 more US dollars than they sold on Friday but both the buying and selling rates for the North American currency moved up.

The market is now in the season of increased inflows and reduced out flows as the tourist seasons and the period of higher remittances come together. Indications from the highest and lowest rates suggest that the top of the market may be at hand as only the highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar rose at the end of the day with most remaining unchanged.

There was an overall buying of the equivalent of US$37,329,602 and selling of US$30,812,003.

High & Lows | The highest buying rate for the US dollar fell by 10 cents to $107.00, the rest of the rates remained unchanged with the lowest selling being $86.01 and the highest selling $110.21 and the low at $102.40.

The lowest buying and selling rates for the Canadian dollar remained unchanged at $79.68 and $96 respectively but the highest buying rate moved up 60 cents $101.50 while the highest selling rate declined by 28 cents to $102.72.

The British Pound saw a reduction of 55 cents in the highest buying rate that closed at $174.85 and enjoyed stability in the rest with the lowest buying being $139.03, the high for selling being $177.20 and the low $167.50.

Spot trades | The buying rate for the US dollar climbed 19 cents to $105.74 as dealers bought $31,815,587 and sold $27,970,567 at $106.12, inched up by a cent. C$1,208,977 was bought $98.21, up by 12 cents but the selling rate fell 8 cents to $99.93 with the selling of $716,102. Dealers bought £2,539,570 as the rate fell 83 cents to end at $171.52 and they sold £1,108,279 at $173.67, down by 42 cents.

Friday, 22nd November 2013 | The US dollar backed off from crossing the $106 mark as the Jamaica dollar appreciated against all of the currencies in Friday’s trading except for a rise in the buying rate for the US dollar. There was increased liquidity in the Foreign Exchange market which helped push rates down. The majority of rates at the high and low ends retreated as well.

The purchasing of foreign currencies climbed to the equivalent of $43,675,555 or US$9 million more than the amount sold of US$34,529,512 on the final day of the week.

Trading took place in US dollars when dealers bought US$40,458,636 for an increased rates which was up 36 cents to $105.38 and they sold US$32,453,090 with the rated declining 14 cents to $105.83. C$977,622 was purchased with the rate falling 93 cents to $98.53 at the close and C$925,392 was sold as the rate declined by 23 cents $101.11, the British Pound was bought at $168.50 down $1.58, as dealers picked up £891,428 and sold £615,687 at $171.37, down by 77 cents.

Highs & Lows | The US dollar highest buy rate fell by 60 cents to $106.60, while the lowest was unchanged at $85.59. The highest selling rate increased by 27 cents to $109.94 and the lowest gained 10 cents to $102.60.

Rates for the Canadian dollar fell across the board with the high being down 70 cents to $101.30 and the low down 12 cents to $80.22; the high for selling fell 90 cents to $103.65 and the low was off 15 cents to $96.65.

The British Pound suffered declines across the board against the Jamaican dollar with the high for buying losing 99 cents to end at $171.56, the low was off 8 cents to $136.37 while the high for selling was $174.20, down $1.71 and the low shed 45 cents to end at $164.30.

Thursday, 21st November 2015 | The amount of US dollar sold was greater than the amount bought on the ForEx Market as the selling rate ended at just under $106 to a US dollar. In the end, there was purchasing by dealers of US$19,095,725 as the rate gained 19 cents to end at $105.02 and there was selling for US$23,240,273 at  $105.97 for an increase of 17 cents. There was buying of C$1,350,848 as the rate fell by $1.31 to $99.47 and the amount sold was C$849,482 at an average rate of $101.35 off by 50 cents. The British Pound had £2,863,202 being bought as the rate went down 98 cents to $170.08 and the amount sold was £1,856,414 with the rate gaining 68 cents to end at $172.14.

Overall there was buying of the equivalent of US$25,153,210 and selling of US$27,383,407 for all currencies traded.

Highs & Lows | The US dollar moved up 15 cents to $107.20 for the highest buying rate and the low was unchanged at $85.59, while the highest and lowest selling rates remained unchanged at $109.67 and $102.50 respectively.

The highest buying rate of the Canadian dollar ended at $102.00 or 15 cents down while the low fell 17 cents to $80.34; the high for selling was at $104.55 up by 55 cents and the low was down 20 cents to $96.80.

The British Pound was bought as high as $172.55 for a 5 cent reduction and as low as $136.45, an increase of 58 cents; the highest rate sold at was $175.91 up by $2.13 and the low was at $164.75 an increase of $1.05.

Wednesday, 20th November 2013 | The public bought the US dollar and the Pound sterling at slightly higher rates but got the Canadian dollar for less than on Tuesday as dealers bought the equivalent of total of US$29,262,926 and sold the equivalent of US$32,368,147.

In forex trading authorised dealers bought US$24,957,522 as the buying rate slipped 17 cents to $104.83 while they sold US$28,889,947 at 5 cents lower than on Tuesday to end at $105.81. The Canadian dollar had buying for C$2,490,331 as the rate was up $1.55 to $100.78 while selling amounted to C$2,036,329 as the rate was down 40 cents to $101.85.  £1,009,075 was bought as the rate was up 91 cents to $169.10 and selling amounted to £847,500 with the rate increasing by 15 cents to $171.47.

The US$ was bought as high as $107.05 for a 5 cents increase and as low as $85.59 for an increase of 9 cents and was sold as high as $109.67 which is unchanged from Tuesday, the low for selling was at $102.50, up by $16.99.

The Canadian dollar went as high as $102.15 on buying or for 5 cents down, and the low was unchanged at $80.51, the high for the selling rate was $104.00, up 21 cents and there was no change to the low of $97.00.

The British Pound went for $172.60 for a 45 cents increase for the highest buy rate and was unchanged at $135.87 for the low as the highest sell rate fell $1.38 to $173.78 and the low was unchanged at $163.70.

Monday 18th November 2013 | In forex trading on Monday, the collective buying of the various currencies translated to US$42,616,118 or $7 million more than the US$35,482,491 that was sold.

For individual currencies there was buying of US$35,094,952 at a rate that was 15 cents lower than on Friday at $104.82, while there was sale of US$30,042,915 at $105.69 up 10 cents in spite of the US$5 million excess purchase over the amount sold.

The Canadian dollar gained $1.04 to end at $100.02 as dealers bought C$2,983,573 while they sold C$2,061,610 at $101.49 for a 60 cents increase. £2,571,594 was bought at $1.10 more than on Friday at $168.58 and £1,925,535 was sold at $171.47 up 51 cents.

Highs & Lows | US dollar was bought for 8 cents more than on Friday at the highest level of $106.88 but there was no change to the low which ended at $85.50; the highest selling rate moved up 58 cents to $109.57 with no change to low at $85.46.

The Canadian dollar was up $1.15 to $102.30 for the highest buying rate, up 25 cents to $80.18 for the lowest buying rate and up 23 cents for the highest selling rate of $103.57 with the lowest selling rate jumping by $14.71 to $96.60.

The British Pound was bought as high as $172.00, up $1 but was down $18.50 to $116.25 for the lowest buying rate and up $1.34 to $175.05 for the highest selling rate and up $1.25 to $163.60 for the low.

Friday, 15th November 2013 | With just one month to the start of the winter tourist season and the advent of Christmas when the inflows of foreign exchange will increase, the question is whether the top of the foreign exchange market in terms of ratesvis near? The question is relevant in light of this week’s trading in the forex market where the rates have reflected a greater level of stability all week long.

The total foreign currencies traded on Friday amounted to the equivalent of US$24,561,809 and selling amounted to US$27,302,542. Currency denominated in US dollars amounted to $21,565,152 as the rate gained 8 cents to end at $104.97 and US$22,863,674 was sold with the rate gaining a cent to end at $105.59. The Canadian denominated currency traded C$1,128,401 as the rate gained 40 cents to close at $98.99 and C$750,162 was sold down 28 cents at $100.89. The British Pound purchases amounts to £1,114,892 but the rate fell $1.11 to end at $167.48 and selling was £1,994,243 for an increase of 17 cents, ending the day at $170.96.

Highs & Lows | The highest buying rate for the US dollar was $106.80, a gain of 15 cents but there was no change to the lowest buying rate of $ 85.50; the highest selling rate moved down by 58 cents to $108.99 and a large $16.94 decline to $85.46.

The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar was $101.15, a decline of 85 cents with no change to the lowest rate of $79.93; the highest selling rate moved down by 16 cents to $103.34 and the lowest moved down by all of $14.41 to $81.89.

The highest buying rate for the British Pound was $171.00, a fall of a dollar and the lowest was up 62 cents up to $134.75. There was no change to the highest selling rate of $173.71 or the lowest of $162.35.
