Juniors inch upward to new record

Jamaican Teas traded at a new closing high of $7.60 on Monday.

The junior market ended trading on Monday with a new closing high, but it retreated from just above 2,800 points level it peaked at in the morning session to end with just 4.42 points 2,782.29.
The junior market trading ended with 14 security trading versus 21 that traded on Friday. Trading ended with prices of 6 stocks gaining and 7 declining. The volume of stocks changing hands, ended at 1,892,208 units valued at $12,483,279, compared to 22,999,535 units changing hands valued at $127,583,667, on Friday.
An average 135,158 units with an average value of $891,663 traded, compared to 1,095,216 units with an average value of $6,075,413 on the preceding trading day. The junior market enjoyed a big day of trading on Friday, ending with 22,999,535 units changing hands valued at $127,583,667, compared to 4,583,153 units, changing hands, with a rise of 895 percent from the amount of $26,375,749 traded on Thursday.
Trading was dominated by Lasco Distributors with 7,130,521 units trading with a loss of 5 cents to end at $7.35, Lasco Financial with 3,895,608 shares at $3.69, after rising 6 cents and Lasco Manufacturing with 10,576,878 units changing hands with a rise of 18 cents closed at $5.18.
The junior market index climbed 15.93 points to a record close of 2,777.87 with 21 security trading versus 17 that traded on Thursday. Trading ended with prices of 9 stocks gaining and 7 declining, on heavy volumes.
An average of 1,095,216 units with an average value of $6,075,413 traded, compared to 269,597 units with an average value of $1,551,515 on the preceding trading day. Jetcon Corporation traded 48,465 shares to end at $10 after trading at a new intraday high of $10.50, Key Insurance traded 33,300 units to close at $3 after losing 10 cents, Medical Disposables lost 25 cents to close at $4.45 with 27,900 shares changing hands, tTech traded 2,000 shares to close at $6.50. Eppley 9.5% preference share, ended with 307,319 units changing hands to close at $6 after falling 6 cents and Eppley 8.25% preference share, ended with 185,036 units changing hands to close at $6.

Jamaican stocks jump in early trading

Jetcon trades at a new high of $9 on Monnday.

With the exception of Caribbean Cream that suffered an instant reaction to a fall in profits with the price pulling back, the other junior market companies that reported lower profits have not moved an inch.
Investors seem to be reacting positively to an announcement by Jetcon Corporation of a likely dividend and stock split as they drove the stock up by a $1 to a new high of $8 in trading 171,500 units, shortly after opening and shot up to $9 where trading is frozen for an hour with 172,334 units trading in all. Caribbean Producers, traded 500,000 shares and rose 40 cents to $4, General Accident Insurance traded 4,413,793 shares at $2.90, tTech rose 10 cents to $6 with 180,684 shares changing hands, Lasco Manufacturing had 1,600,000 units trading at $5.08. Caribbean Cream traded 6,000 at $6.55 and then recovered to $7 with 47,823 units trading. In the main market, Berger Paints traded 616,346 units to end at $6,

Cable & Wireless climbed to $1.12 with 426,500 units and then fell back to $1.05 with 499,382 units, JMMB Group had 1,122,175 shares trading at $15.30 and Supreme Ventures lost 32 cents and traded 3,205,834 units at $5.08.
Volumes rose sharply with high volume in some selected stocks as 32 securities traded at 10:45 am, compared to 29 on Friday. A total of 11 securities advanced and 11 declined, resulting in a volume of 12,710,223 shares changing hands, carrying a value of $68,889,688, compared of 1,490,866 shares changing hands, carrying a value of $16,271,265 on Friday. The average number of shares traded, amount to 397,194 units versus 51,409 units on Friday.
The all Jamaica Composite Index jumped 2,246.61 points to 213,236.46, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index gained 2,008.86 points 194,985.46, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index climbed 1,964.37 points to 209,277.56 and the junior market index rose 9.88 points above the record close on Friday to 2,769.35.

Juniors slip first trading day for 2017

The junior market index slipped at the close on the first trading day of the new year on very moderate volume. At the end of trading the market index declined by 12.29 points to end at 2,581.42.
At the close, the prices of 2 stocks rose, 5 declined with 12 securities trading, compared to 16 trading on Friday. Volume of stocks traded dropped on Friday by 82 percent, from Friday’s level, ending with 294,809 units changing hands, valued at $1,529,067, down by 82 percent from $8,675,126 on Friday.
Market activities ended with 5 securities closing with bids higher than their last selling prices and one ending with a lower offer.
An average of 24,567 units with an average value of $127,422 traded, compared to 102,038 units with an average value of $542,195 on the preceding trading day. The average for December is 131,147 units, at an average of $672,488.
At the close of trading, Cargo Handlers closed at $18.50 with 1,379 units changing hands, Caribbean Cream had 19,700 units exchanged for 20 cents less than on Friday to end at $7.30. Caribbean Producers traded 45,331 shares to close at $3.30, Honey Bun had 2,735 shares changing hands to close at $5.68 after falling 17 cents. Iron Rock Insurance climbed 40 cents in trading 564,394 shares to end at $4, Jamaican Teas lost 60 cents to end at $4.25 with 2,500 shares being exchanged. Key Insurance gained 20 cents to end at $2.80 with 55,524 units changing hands, KLE Group closed with 7,000 shares trading at $1.95. Lasco Distributors ended with 96,756 units trading with a fall of 4 cents to $7.01, Lasco Financial rose 8 cents with 6,294 shares changing hands, to end at $3.19, Lasco Manufacturing fell 10 cents and ended at $4.90, after 20,440 units switched hands, tTech traded 20,150 units at $5.30 and Eppley 9.5% preference share traded 17,000 units at $6.18.
