Supreme Ventures profit jumps 41%

Supreme Ventures’ profit rose sharply for the 2017 half year.

Investors responded to strong increase in profit for the six months to June, for Supreme Ventures, by pushing the stock to a record high of $9 on Monday.
Profit surged 41 percent, from $649 million to $918 million after tax, with second quarter profit jumping by a lesser 34 percent to $502 million, from $374 million in 2016. The results translate to earnings per share of 35 cents for the half year and 19 cents for the quarter. The numbers suggest full year earnings of 75 cents, with the stock trading on Monday at $9, it now parades a PE of 12, sitting at the middle of main market listings, but just below the market’s average of 13. Cash flow generated from operations, amounted to just over $1.3 billion for the six months from which $607 million in dividend was paid. $356 million was paid for acquisition of fixed assets after the receipt loan funding of $380 million.
The group reported strong increase in revenues, up 27.5 percent to $14 billion for the quarter and 23.5 percent to $27.4 billion for the six months. The 2017 second quarter figures include revenues for Caymanas Park that was acquired earlier in the year.
Direct cost rose 27 percent in the June quarter, to $12.47 billion and 24 percent year to date to $24.63 billion and operating expenses moved up 29.7 percent to $842 million for the quarter as the cost of the horseracing operations impact cost and 7.3 percent to $1.5 billion for the half year.
The new Caymanas Park horseracing operations brought in revenues of $1.76 billion for the six months period and contributed a loss of $105 million. In the first quarter racing brought in revenues of $328 million and a loss of $19 million. Interestingly, the gaming operations that was a big loss maker in past years contributed $15 million in profit, up from $777,000 in 2016 but down from a profit of $21.4 million in the first quarter, while the Sports betting loss was contained to $34 million, down sharply from $115 million in 2016, but much worse than the loss of $9.5 million in quarter one.
The financial position at June saw total assets of $6.5 billion, including cash of $2.27 billion and non- current assets of $3.17 billion. Shareholders’ equity stood $4 billion and interest bearing debt at debt, at just under $500 million.

Stocks rose modestly on the Jamaica Stock Exchange leading the market indices rising around 100 point continuing the much bigger rise on Friday even as Supreme Ventures closed at an all-time high of $9, after climbing 45 cents in trading 12,960 shares.
Investors were responding to strong increase in profit for the six months to June, moving from $649 million to $918 million.
The All Jamaica Composite Index advanced 101.60 points to close at 276,135.72, the JSE Market Index gained 92.57 points to 251,590.92 and the JSE US dollar market index declined 6.86 points to 178.50.
At the close of trading, 26 securities changed hands in the main market with 3 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 10 stocks advancing and 10 declining. The main market ended with 2,163,104 units valued at $46,639,859 changing hands compared to 7,943,772 units valued at $101,876,271 at the close on Friday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 6,508 units valued at US$1,904 bringing the total of all trades to J$46,883,517.

Big price gains in Scotia & NCB – Friday

A big $3.85 jump in the price of NCB and $2.99 for Scotia Group followed by $2 gain in Caribbean Cement and $2.05 for Grace Kennedy, pushed the main market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange sharply upwards on Friday.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange main market dropped sharply at the close on Thursday with sizable declines in some big capitalization stocks. Advancing stocks dominated trading, with a 2 to 1 ratio but a drop of $2.90 in NCB shares hit the indices with a big drop.

JSE main market jumps sharply – Tuesday

Main market stocks surge higher at the close of trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Tuesday even as declining stocks beat out advancing almost 3 to 1. Market activity took place from increased volumes as 30 securities changed hands up from 26 on Monday.
At the close of trading 2 securities were active in the US dollar market, 6 stocks advanced and 15 declined in both markets. The main market ended with 3,703,287 units valued at $102,098,446 changing hands compared to 6,318,090 units valued at $56,287,458 at the close on Monday. Barita at record high on Monday

The main market stocks of the Jamaica Stock Exchange declined for the second consecutive day with moderate fall in the indices at the close on Monday. Barita Investments, the subject of a proposed takeover bid closed at a new all-time high of $10.80 at the close.

Main market drops over 3,000 points – Friday

The main market stocks of the Jamaica Stock Exchange lost ground at the close on Friday with sizable declines in the indices but with increased trading volume as Sagicor Group traded more than 5 million share, but fewer securities traded than on Thursday.
Trading ended with the All Jamaica Composite Index diving 3,359.30 points to close at 275,077.34, the JSE Market Index dropped 3,060.70 points to 250,626.61, bringing the gains for 2017 to more than 30 percent. The JSE US dollar market index added 1.37 points to close at 188.26.
At the close of trading, 20 securities changed hands in the main market with 1 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 8 stocks advancing and 6 declining. The main market ended with 7,902,262 units valued at $237,278,617 changing hands compared to 1,374,903 units valued at $47,150,828 at the close on Thursday. Main market stocks suffered a reversal of fortunes on the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Wednesday with the main indices slipping over 2,000 points in spite of a $5 jump for Carreras and $2 for Sagicor Group. Trading closed moderately with 1,809,394 units valued at $47,308,355 changing hands.
On Tuesday just 909,094 units valued at $30,837,797 traded in the main market. Trading in the US dollar market on Wednesday accounted for 297,250 units valued at US$77,073 bringing the total of all trades to J$57,173,667.
At the close of trading, 26 securities changed hands in the main market with 2 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 9 stocks advancing and 8 declining.
The All Jamaica Composite Index declined 2,289.06 points to close at 275,869.08, the JSE Market Index lost 2,085.59 points to 251,347.98 and the JSE US dollar market index gained 5.10 points to close at 197.70.

JSE jumps to new record close – Tuesday

Investors pushed the Jamaica Stock Exchange indices up sharply to hit new record highs at the close on Tuessday. During the morning session, the All Jamaica Composite Index hit a new all-time high of 279,335.69, after surging a huge 6,471.87 points at 11:50 AM. 
The JSE Market Index jumped 5,896.61 points to a record 254,506.45 points. By the close gains eased with the market closing a bit lower but well above Friday’s close.
Trading ended with the All Jamaica Composite Index jumping 5,294.32 points to a record close of 278,158.14, the JSE Market Index leapt 4,823.73 points to 253,433.57 and the JSE US dollar market index gained 3.76 points to close at 192.60.
At the close of trading, 23 securities changed hands in the main market with 1 trading in the US dollar market, leading to 11 stocks advancing and 6 declining. The main market ended with 37,879 units valued at $30,837,797 changing hands compared to 2,489,517 units valued at $21,640,002 at the close on Friday. Trading in the US dollar market accounted for 404,258 units valued at US$99,647 bringing the total of all trades to J$83,856,037.
