Trading on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange ended trading on Tuesday with more stocks declining than rising for the second day leading to another fall in the market index of 10.21 points to 3,109.61.
At the close of market activities 28 securities changed hands, compared with 29 securities trading on Monday and ending with the prices of 6 securities advancing, 13 declining and 9 remaining unchanged.
The market closed with 3,968,653 units valued at $16,061,548 trading, compared to 6,546,471 units valued at $26,108,684 exchanged on Monday.
Trading ended with an average of 141,738 units for an average of $573,627 in contrast to 225,740 units for an average of $900,299 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 170,040 shares valued at $701,594 compared to 184,448 units valued at $766,741 on the previous day. In contrast, February closed with average of 235,225 units valued at $679,790 for each security traded.

This year’s new listing, Fontana continues to trade in large amounts with 7.34 million units trading and contributing to 83 percent of the day’s volume trading when the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed on Thursday.
Trading ended another day of high volume with an exchange of 8,871,009 units valued at $29,431,464 compared to 3,592,672 units valued at $12,085,054 on Wednesday from trading in 22 securities.
Trading activity pushed the Junior Market Index up by 12.37 points to 3,215.17 with 30 securities trading with the prices of 7 rising, 14 declining and 9 remaining unchanged.

Sharp jump in Junior Market trading – Friday

In a long delayed but shortened trading session on Friday, the Junior Market traded volume jumped 154 percent over Thursday’s levels while the value of trades increased by 203 percent resulting from 1,085,040 units valued at $5,213,905 compared to 426,549 units valued at $1,722,476 on Thursday,

Big gains for 10 Junior Market stocks in 2018

While Junior Market stocks on the Jamaica Stock Exchange chalked up gains of just 18.8 percent overall for 2018, but 5 companies’ stock rose between 104 to 282 percent for the year.
SSl Venture Capital, formerly C2W Music raced to a gain of 282 percent to remain in the TOP 10 Junior Market stocks for the second consecutive year. The stock benefitted from new life given it, when Stocks and Securities acquired controlling interest in it, for use as a venture capital vehicle. The next best performing stock delivered gains of 213 percent as investors pushed Derrimon Trading to new heights after the company announced a 10 for one stock split and the acquisition of a subsidiary. CAC2000 captured the number 3 best performing spot, rising by 160 percent for the year, followed by the 2018new  listing, Indies Pharma, with gains of 113 percent, after investors drove the price to a record high of $4.10 to a gain of 173 percent from the IPO price of $1.50. Express Catering gained 104 percent to be one of 3 stocks to reappear in the top 10 for two consecutive years. Caribbean Flavours landed the 6th spot with a gain of 73 percent. Statinery & Office Supplies reappeared in the Top 10 with a rise of 69 percent. ISP Financial chipped in with a rise of 67 percent in 8th spot to be followed by the Montego Bay based, Cargo Handlers that chipped in with 50 percent and the early 2018 listed Elite Diagnostic, was tenth after rising 48 percent.
The worst performing stocks for 2018 included, GWest Corporation down 56 percent due mainly to the much lower revenues than previously forecasted and greater losses. Jetcon Corporation, one of the 2017 Top 10 stocks, came next with a loss of 39 percent as the company reported lower profits for the nine months to September than the prior year. The new 2018 listing, Everything Fresh, ended the first year on the Junior Market as the third worst performing stock with a fall of 39 percent, helped by poor third quarter results as well as coming to the market at an excessive valuation. AMG Packaging ended as the 4th worst performer as the price reflected the losses caused by the toilet tissue operations with a decline in the stock price by 37 percent as it followed tTech with a decline of 33 percent. Eppley that migrated to the main market on the last day of 2018, declined 24 percent to the 6th worse performer, while Lasco Financial lost altitude to close out 2018 as the 7th worse performing the Junior Market stock, with a  loss of 15 percent, just ahead of Knutsford Express at the 8th spot, with a fall of 13 percent, Sweat River fell 9 percent and Consolidated Bakeries ended at the 10th spot with a loss of 6 percent.

 

 

SSL Venture & Key dominate Junior Market

Two big blocks of shares traded on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange on Friday, as 23 securities changed hands, resulting in an exchange of 37,359,775 units valued at $87,094,646, leading to a 3 to 1 dominance of declining to advancing stocks.
Friday’s trading was well above the level of 1,692,337 units valued at $8,566,971 from 23 securities changing hands on Thursday as SSL Venture Capital traded 24 million units and Key Insurance chipped in with 12 million shares on Friday.
At the close of market activities, the prices of 5 securities advanced, 14 declined and 4 remained unchanged, resulting in the Junior Market Index falling sharply by 44.24 points to close at 3,227.39.
Trading ended with an average of 1,624,338 units for an average of $3,786,724 in contrast to 73,580 units for an average of $372,477 on Thursday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to units 187,380 units valued at $640,878 and previously 97,570 units valued at $444,262. October, ended with an average of 69,421 units valued at $347,455 for each security traded.

Elite Diagnostic finished with a loss of 20 cents at $3, trading 67,496 stock units, Eppley settled at $9.05, with 1,000 units changing hands, Everything Fresh traded 3,925 shares after gaining 10 cents and closed at $1.70, Express Catering ended trading 86,777 shares with a loss of 15 cents in closing at $7.95, FosRich Group traded 308,909 shares for 6 cents more to close at $3.90. General Accident finished trading 200 shares, with a loss of 98 cents to end at $3.02,  Honey Bun ended activities 4 cents higher at $4.15, with 14,400 units changing hands, Indies Pharma traded 181,193 shares and lost 5 cents in closing at $3, Jamaican Teas settled with a loss of 70 cents at $4, while exchanging 5,000 shares, Jetcon Corporation ended trading with a loss of 1 cent at $3.79, with 25,695 stock units changing hands. Key Insurance lost 15 cents in closing at $3.25, with an exchange of 12,070,405 units, Lasco Distributors ended with a loss of 15 cents at $3.80, with 222,000 shares changing hands, Lasco Financial concluded trading of 31,249 stock units, at $5.10, Lasco Manufacturing finished with a loss of 25 cents at $3.25, in an exchange of 23,600 units. Main Event settled with a loss of 60 cents at $5.90, with 10,900 shares changing hands, Medical Disposables ended trading, 20 cents higher at $6.20, while exchanging 26,500 shares, SSL Venture SSL Venture Capital traded 24,025,000 shares and gained 1 cent to end at $1.79 and tTech ended market activities with a drop of $1.25 cents to $5, with 13,173 shares changing hands.

Trading ended with an average of 23,884 units for an average of $91,363 in contrast to 46,290 units for an average of $197,035 on Monday. The average volume and value for the month to date amounts to 69,570 units valued at $318,595 and 72,158 units valued at $331,468, previously. September, ended with an average of 484,335 at $2,628,299 for each security traded.
At the close of trading, Blue Power concluded trading of 2,764 units as the price rose 54 cents higher to end at record closing high of $7.04, Cargo Handlers settled 26 cents higher at $13.75, in the swapping of 1,406 shares, Caribbean Producers finished trading 29,732 units and the price climbed 9 cents to $6.84, Consolidated Bakeries closed 30 cents higher at $2.30, with 4,612 shares changing hands, Derrimon Trading ended with a loss of 2 cents at $2.80, trading 69,406 shares. Dolphin Cove concluded trading of 5,000 shares at $17, Express Catering ended trading 15,327 shares, with a loss of 20 cents at $8.30, FosRich Group traded just 516 shares with a loss of 10 cents to close at $3.80, General Accident finished trading 3,010 shares with a loss of 25 cents to $3.70. GWest Corporation closed with a loss of 25 cents at an all-time low of $1.55, with 54,823 stock units changing hands, Honey Bun ended 5 cents higher at $4.05, exchanging 5,906 units, Indies Pharma gained 9 cents to end at $2.95 with 220,937 shares changing hands. Jamaican Teas settled 10 cents higher at $4.10, while trading 8,857 shares, Jetcon Corporation ended the trading of 4,872 stock units with a loss of 40 cents at $3.50, Knutsford Express closed at $12, with 3,000 shares changing hands, Lasco Distributors ended with a loss of 6 cents at $3.94, in swapping 56,009 shares, Lasco Financial concluded trading of 12,365 stock units with a loss of 15 cents at $5.30, Lasco Manufacturing finished with a loss of 26 cents at $3.50, in exchanging 2,894 units.
