Main Market rises, Juniors & JSE USD fall


Trading closed Monday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after a fall in the volume of stocks traded, with a lower value than on Friday. Trading resulted in major indices of the Main Market rising, the Junior Market index and the JSE USD Market index declining. At the end of trading the prices of 43 shares rose, 46 declined and 23 remained firm.

The JSE Combined Market Index rose 613.55 points to 372,470.44, the All Jamaican Composite fell 504.80 points to 438,382.35, the JSE Main Index increased 862.34 points to finish at 367,614.01, the Junior Market Index shed 29.40 points to close at 2,922.95 and the JSE USD Market Index lost 8.15 points to end at 307.34.
At the close of trading, 19,173,017 shares changed hands in all three markets, down from 28,282,760 units on Friday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $157.94 million, down from $196.54 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 1,312,663 shares for US$93,471 compared to 1,084,551 units at US$79,042 on Friday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led trading with 8.27 million shares, followed by Wigton Energy with 840,874 stocks and Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund with 823,908 units.
In Junior Market trading, Lasco Financial led with 665,320 shares, followed by Atlantic Hardware with 527,768 stocks and Woodcats International with 502,100 units.
Amongst the winners of the Main Market ordinary shares, AS Bryden rose $2.98 to end at $24.10, Seprod gained $2.90 to $74.60, Massy Holdings popped $2.90 and ended at $72.90, Pan Jamaica increased $1.99 to finish at $45.99 and Eppley climbed $1.87 in closing at $35.88.
Amongst the top losers, Guardian Holdings dropped $7.97 to end at $370.00, Scotia Group dropped $2 to $57.00, Carreras fell $1.92 to end at $28.00, Sagicor Real Estate Fund slipped $1.46 and ended at $8.34 and Jamaica Producers lost $1.40 to close at $17.55.
In the preferred share segment, Jamaica Public Service 9.5% advanced $46 to finish at $2,200, 138 Student Living preference share rose $30 and ended at $230 and Sygnus Credit Investments 10% climbed $1.20 to $113.
Amongst the top winners in the Junior Market, Access Financial rallied $1.17 to finish at $18.00, Dolphin Cove advanced 37 cents and ended at $9.99, Iron Rock Insurance rose 19 cents to $2.69, Regency Petroleum climbed 14 cents to close at $4.19 and Stationery and Office Supplies popped 13 cents to end at $1.63. Among the top losers, Cargo Handlers declined $2 in closing at $14.15, AMG Packaging skidded 25 cents to finish at $1.60, Fontana dipped 15 cents and ended at $6.20, Lasco Financial fell 14 cents to $1.46 and Mailpac Group dropped 14 cents to end at $2.31.
