JSE main market up 7% year ago

In contrast to the main market junior market stocks have not fared as well and closed on December 19 last year at 768.16, this year the index is at 679.54 points down by 11.5 percent.The two indices closed out 2013 at 81,850.04 and 757.86 so far the main market stocks collectively are up just 2 percent while the juniors are down 10.3 percent. The main market gains will be higher, at the end of the year, if history is anything to go by, and the junior market losses will be pared, as the recovery in demand for stocks seen since November continues for the rest of December.
There were 7 stocks that contributed to the rise in the all Jamaica main market index, the leading ones being Cable & Wireless with 213 percent increase, Kingston Properties up 67 percent, Hardware & Lumber 31 percent, Seprod 30 percent Pan Jam 13 percent and Grace 11 percent.
