The tourism sector of Jamaica took another beating in September with passenger traffic through the Sangster’s International Airport falling a significant 11.5 percent following declines in July and August and is down 1.7 percent for the year to date compared with 2023.
In July Sangster’s International Airport suffered a 14 fall in traffic passing through the airport and in August 9.4 percent, data released by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, operators of Jamaica’s two major airports show.
Traffic passing through the Norman Manley airport rose 4.2 percent in the month but is down 1 percent for the first nine months of the year.
The fall in passenger traffic through the Sangster’s International Airport is of far greater import around 90 percent of tourist traffic to Jamaica passes through that airport.
According to data released by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, Jamaica is not the only country suffering a major decline in traffic Los Cabos in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta sustained a fall of 17 percent.
