The junior market traded at a new high in excess of 2,500 point for the first time on Tuesday, reaching 2,522.83 in mid-morning trading as trading picked up above the low levels on Monday. The juniors were unable to hold on to the record and slipped back at the close.
Trading that was slow on Monday picked up steam on Tuesday with many more securities trading with higher volumes. Trading closed on Tuesday with the market index falling 10.09 points to close with 2,485.13 points, bringing the gain for the year to date at 39 percent.
The volume of stocks traded that fell sharply on Monday, surged on Tuesday with the volume jumping 310 percent from Monday’s levels and ending with just 1,290,866 units changing hands, valued at $5,509,660, up 279 percent from $754,871 on Monday.
At the close of trading 17 securities traded, up from 11 on Monday, while 9 stocks advanced but a number of them rose by just one or two cents and 8 declining, including 3 that traded at a 52 weeks’ high.

An average of 75,933 units with an average value of $324,098 traded, compared to 34,104 units with an average value of $56,558 on the preceding trading day. The average for the month to date is 139,639 units for an average of $855,698 compared to 129,138 units at $709,705 for October.
In trading activity, Access Financial rose 2 cents with 727 shares changing hands to close at $20.08, AMG Packaging fell 50 cents and ended with 3,951 shares changing hands at $19, Caribbean Cream fell 65 cents and closed with 67,195 shares changing hands at $7. Caribbean Flavours traded 5,000 units to end at $8.50 with a fall of 1 cent, Caribbean Producers fell 29 cents in trading 60,000 shares to end at $3.21, Consolidated Bakeries lost 25 cents in trading 304,000 shares to close at $2.20, General Accident gained 3 cents and closed with 2,571 units changing hands at a 52 weeks’ closing high of $3.15. Honey Bun with 22,900 shares changing hands rose 40 cents and closed at $5.90, Jamaican Teas traded 11,900 shares and gained 10 cents to close at $4, Jetcon Corporation traded 227,000 shares and gained 2 cents to close at 52 weeks’ closing high of ICI Jm trds 15-11-16$5.02, KLE Group climbed 45 cents in traded 41,500 shares and closed at $1.60. Lasco Distributors ended with 78,438 shares trading at $6.90, after declining by 1 cent, Lasco Financial ended with 45,120 shares changing hands at $3.10, after rising 10 cents, Lasco Manufacturing closed at $4.89 with 153,518 shares changing hands after slipping 1 cent. Medical Disposables lost 2 cents in trading 5,400 units, to end at $4.78, Paramount Trading price hit an intraday all-time high of $4.70 in early trading, but rose 1 cent to a new all-time closing high of $4.01 with 151,218 shares changing hands and tTech fell 70 cents and ended with 110,428 shares changing hands at $5.10.
